As some of you may know, on the 1st August, we lost a hero. Merrick Gordon, otherwise known as 'Sir Merrick', died. He leaves behind him wonderful memories and a huge legacy. A good, kind and gentle man, a superb DJ and someone I'm honoured to have shared a house with through my teenage years.

He was also my mum's boyfriend, you see, and on tomorrow's show, the first hour is dedicated to the music he loved to share.

Hope some of you can join me.

So we have a stilting summer almost upon us, sunshine on a rainy day and all that kind of thing. Personally, I'm in a reflective mood. The huge love-in that was Alfresco has been and gone and I need something to pick me up and remind me that ordinary days can be good too.

Thankfully, I've got just the tonic in the form of a superb mix from Balearic Social captain Andy Pye, which I'm thrilled about as it makes me look good by association.

Plus, there's superb new gear from Paul Withey, Emile Strunz, Drvg Cvltvre and, if I can get him to do the edit in time, Future Unit. Basically, Andy's is the summer breeze bit and mine is pretty much business as usual ;)

That's not to undersell it though. It's going to be great and if you listen to it, your life will be richer and you'll be spiritually and financially set for life. It's basically the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

As I said, sunshine on a rainy day innit?

Anyway, this show is forged in childhood – specifically the fleeting memories of a Brutalist Wimpy. Emile Strunz, C.A.R., Rodion and Mammarella, Scott Fraser, Orestt and Ketsueki Sakura will reflect the imposing structure along with many, many more.

Throwing some light on to the shade cast by the concrete cantilever are the warm synth sounds of brand new tracks from Future Unit, Bird of Paradise, Man Power and Lizards, plus a beautiful and bouyant remix from Paul Withy. All this *and* new songs from lounge psyche wizards Klaus Johann Grobe? You betcha!

Three hours this week – no guest mix, just waaaay too much music to fit into a regular show.

That's pretty much why I left for the brisk winds and salt air of the north Kent coast. However, you miss some things, y'know? Like being able to play records in a pub without being heckled by a man older than my dad, for instance.

So, when I saw the line-up for Alfresco's three day festival in Tunbridge Wells this May, I could barely contain myself (there's a small chance that could have been IBS I suppose), and to celebrate, this month's BATTL looks forward to the forthcoming festivities with the unadulterated excitement of a small child. We'll be featuring music from that acts who'll be performing and the labels represented, including: Duncan Gray, Craig Bratley, The Emperor Machine, Days of Being Wild, Soft Rocks,
Vox Low, Bird of Paradise, Tronik Youth, Ivan Smagghe, C.A.R. and loads more...

Red Axes, Khidja, Man Power Timothy J Fairplay... all these and more will figure, so why not join me for a couple of hours and assuage some of the guilt I have for buying records so close to Christmas? It might just be the best show I've done yet. Of course it might not, but fuck it, let's keep it positive, yeah?
