This is the first mix of a series dedicated to the remixers of special dub versions and instrumental remixes that you would usually find on the B-side on 12" singles. In the early 80s this new form of creativly remixing songs emerged when club dj's became inhouse remixers for labels like Prelude, Salsoul, West End, etc.
While it was nothing new to put a instrumental version with the vocals removed on the flip side of a record, this was a totally new aproach of remixing songs highlighting certain parts and instruments and changing up things by using effets like delays or reverb on it. It was pioneered by New York dj's like Francois K., Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan, John Morales & Sergio Munzibai, Jellybean and a few others. Also worth mentioning is the Nightdubbing album released by UK Band Imagination in 1982 with crazy dubbed out versions of their greatest hits. In 2009 Dimitri from Paris released a great compilation called Nightdubbin' on BBE with some of the best 80s dub mixes.
