They have been on our radar for some time now and finally had some space in their hectic schedule to supply us with an hours mix for the show and podcast.

With roots are firmly set in the Netherlands ever since they became partners in crime at high school in Nijmegen. Hans took his hand to creative drawing and later this artistic flare started to pay his bills as he became a graphic designer, Daniel’s obsession with music at a young age led him to study sound design and music production. Both the boys ear for music started at a young age and they would sneak up into the attic to play the vinyl they’d collected, annoying the parents as every good child does. Electronic circuits and noise making machines were their next project, until music production became a real possibility.

Daniel started producing dance music under the name 3 Colours and has been using his own name for a few years now, while continuing to teach sound design in Amsterdam, and Hans makes music as Junktion; but their childhood days brought them to collaborating in the studio and the Fouk project was born.

Their first vinyl release as Fouk, on their label Outplay was met with critical acclaim with brilliant reactions to ‘Stuff Your Dad Liked’ and ‘Cat Lady’. Following swiftly on, they produced a formidable remix for Lay-Far on the Swedish Local Talk Records Records. After Detroit Swindle signed them to their Heist Recordings imprint with their very successful Kill Frenzy EP and doing remixes for the likes of Kraak & Smaak and Razor-N-Tape, they gained a lot of attention. With multiple EP’s and remixes coming up, starting with the current Heavy On The Bacon EP on Dairmount’s Room With A View imprint, it’s going to be a very promising year for the guys.

The new certain circles record will hopefully come by the end of the year and again will be a VA following last years smasher featuring Dudley Strangeways, previous MWU guest Nick Beringer aloside the label bosses.

"I really wanted to make this mix as personal as possible and so I decided to create a mix which feels like you are on the terrace at Space or even soaking up the sun in Miami where I had the pleasure of playing when I resided there. The tracklist contains a few edits that I have created specifically for this mix and also contains a lot of Artists and Labels that have inspired me over the past 20 years such as Luciano's Cadenza and Loco Dice's Desolat.

This year has been going from strength to strength with some of the producers in the tracklist actually asking for my tracks which has been amazing considering I have only been producing for two years. I have included the Medu remix of my latest two part EP "Lost And Found" named after the Saturday residency I held for 4 years a Snafu prior to it sadly closing its doors in March. Part 2 is due out sometime within the next few months along with another EP on German label - aba recordings.

I really hope you enjoy this mix and take inspiration from it as I have done."

In comparison to the previous editions of the MWU podcast, mix 005 has a deeper, darker sound and is basically a collection of some of my favourite tracks I’ve stumbled upon in 2013. This sound isn’t exactly made for clubs - rather with the intention of taking the listener on a musical journey.

I think Making Waves Underground is the beginning of something extremely special for Aberdeen, having heard some of Richie’s plans for 2014 and by looking at the number of hits the site is receiving from all across the globe I see big things ahead.

It's been a great year for House Music in Aberdeen in my opinion. New DJs/Promoters are really helping to bring a wider range of guests to our city where Techno and Minimal Tech nights have occupied most weekend slots over the last few years.

I had a couple of ideas in mind when I initially sat down to decide what I wanted to record. The list of tracks was far too long to cram in so I ended up picking a couple of records to get me going at a steady pace and built from there. The result was me reaching for some of my most played tracks this year (particularly the 2nd half) that have been really getting reactions on the dance floors of our Majestik outdoor parties and of course Snafu's basement.

Kev's been at the forefront of the underground scene in Aberdeen for the best part of the last decade, and it's for good reason. With a great ear for music and a passion for playing tracks that make people want to get up and dance Kev's been in hot demand recently, playing month in month out in the likes of Dusk, Orchid, Revolution and Snafu.

Kev had this to say about his mix - "I wanted to represent what I would play in an early deep set, pick it up in the middle with some terrace tracks and finish with some peak time club tracks, giving a full representation of what I like to play. Hope you enjoy it."
