this track was already released here on SC,but there has´t been that much interest in this track.went back from the doc this morning and heard that Jaky Liebezeit left us on sunday. one of my absolutely favorite musicians. saw CAN at the age of fifteen in a school auditorium,but they security found out about my age,so i was told to leave the concert. short fun for about 45 minutes,but unforgetable

Disquiet Junto Project 0260: Tone Fade
An exercise in when a sound ends.

Step 1: More than many Junto projects, this is essentially an exercise, one that is as much about listening as it is about playing. It’s also a live performance.

Step 2: Choose an instrument that can have a fairly long fade.

Step 3: The plan is to record yourself playing the instrument selected in Step 2 for around three to four minutes straight, and certainly longer if you choose. Set up your equipment to allow for this.

Step 4: Choose a note or a chord to play on the instrument. You’ll only be playing that one note or chord for the duration of the piece.

Step 5: The plan is to play that note or chord, and to then wait until you’re certain you can no longer hear it, and to then at that instant strike the note or chord again. You’ll do this over and over — waiting until it is silent, but not letting the silence linger. Do this for as long as you like. Three or four minutes seems about right. Kudos in advance to the sonic yogis who aim for half an hour or longer.

Five More Important Steps When Your Track Is Done:

Step 1: Per the instructions below, be sure to include the project tag “disquiet0260″ (no spaces) in the name of your track. If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to my locating the tracks and creating a playlist of them.

Uwe's musical roots are aligned with mine in so many ways. Early on, we both had great exposure to and admiration for the likes of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Jimi Hendrix, John Mclaughlin and his work, of course, with Mahavishnu Orchestra,Don Van Vliet as Captain Beefheart with his Magic Band, King Crimson in all its manifestations, Soft Machine, etc., and it is an easy fit to make music with him. Initially, he sent me just the rhythm guitar track to work with. It set the tone immediately for the swinging sort of percussion that borders on straight ahead rock, but with a more jazzy feel. His excellent and expressive lead guitar work took the place of any vocal, something that he might have originally had in mind for me to do, but which I could not dare to compete for space with against his well-placed
solo, throughout. It took very little on my part to bring this to life, feeling the groove instantly and in one take. Nothing too complex, but a sweet baby of tune that is really breathing on its own, now.

this track i had in mind since a few years when i come up with it during a session with two old mates ,without the ability for a proper recording it
went into the box of of beloved but almost forgotten things,until i made the first track with Michael a few month ago.this was such a great experience for me,so i asked him if would like to do one more track with me,sent him the crappy recording i had of the track and what you listen here is the great result i´d never dreamed of. hope you´ll enjoy it.

track seven uses a mellotron sample from the e-mu classic keys. run thru a flanger-joystick effect rack and autopan.thats it.

presets are gone and i can´t find anything about getting them back and how
to load or transfer them back.

Step 4: Your track is complete. However, you may opt to go back in and adjust transitions and add effects.

The Assignment: Say hi to the Juno Spacecraft by embedding Morse code in an original composition.

In this project we’re going to send a friendly signal to the NASA probe, the Juno spacecraft, that just entered orbit around Jupiter. Well, we’re going to compose such signals. Sending them is a separate endeavor. We’re going to build on the “Say ‘Hi’ to Juno” endeavor, which had thousands of ham operators sending a message to Juno during its five-year voyage. The “Say ‘Hi’ to Juno” message was Morse code for “Hi” — that is, four dots followed by two dots (…. ..).

Step 1: Listen to the Morse code for “hi” (four dots followed by two dots) on repeat for a short time.

Step 2: Create an original musical composition that in one or more ways interpolates that Morse code.

Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 4: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process.

Disquiet Junto 0235: Dice Music
The Assignment: Create a piece of music based on a structure determined by the roll of a single die.

This week’s project requires one die (that is, singular of dice).

These are the steps:

Step 1: Roll one die to determine the length of your piece in minutes.

Step 2: Roll two dice to determine the number of sections to your piece. Their length should be equal.

Step 3: For each section roll one die to determine the number of layers.

Step 4: For each layer roll one die to determine the number of different notes played. A note is only played once per layer, but it can be held for as long as desired within that section.

Step 5: Bonus: Create additional dice-based rules and mention them in the notes associated with your finished track.

Step 6: Create an original piece of music based on the result of Step 1 through Step 5.

Step 7: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Disquiet Junto 0235: Dice Music
The Assignment: Create a piece of music based on a structure determined by the roll of a single die.

This week’s project requires one die (that is, singular of dice).

These are the steps:

Step 1: Roll one die to determine the length of your piece in minutes.

Step 2: Roll two dice to determine the number of sections to your piece. Their length should be equal.

Step 3: For each section roll one die to determine the number of layers.

Step 4: For each layer roll one die to determine the number of different notes played. A note is only played once per layer, but it can be held for as long as desired within that section.

Step 5: Bonus: Create additional dice-based rules and mention them in the notes associated with your finished track.

Step 6: Create an original piece of music based on the result of Step 1 through Step 5.

Step 7: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 8: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process.

Step 9: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Deadline: This project was posted in the early evening, California time, on Thursday, June 30, 2016, with a deadline of 11:59pm wherever you are on Monday, July 4, 2016.

Seeing the “ND” tag on a netlabel release is a major buzzkill. The “ND” tag denotes a Creative Commons license that rules out creating derivative work. Fortunately lots of netlabels do allow for creative reuse, and this occasional series of collaborative remixes seeks to celebrate that activity, and encourage other netlabels to switch off the ND tag. Take “NND” to mean “not no derivatives.”

we went out of the city this weekend and i put my little digi recorder close to the fridge until the batteries went empty,when we came
back on sunday there was about ten hours recorded,but mainly the noises
of the neighbours ad all so low levelled,frustrated by this result i started to record more(another ten hours) on sunday night until monday morning,much better result but not much time to create a piece of music,was really unlucky with it,it is such a pain in the ...to handle three
recordings with about 2.5 Gb each.
there are only a reverb,eq,saturator on the tracks.
for this, i don´t know how to say ,smokey and slight melodic sound in the back i used Density Instrument,just playing one of the tracks without any special fx.

the 2 random percussive loops are found sounds out of my chaos library shortened to pieces just around 1,5 sec.

Disquiet Junto Project 0220: Rhythmic Arrhythmic
The Assignment: Make overtly rhythmic music from short loops of overtly arrhythmic source audio, following instructions from Dennis DeSantis.

Dennis DeSantis adapted this week’s project from the chapter “Implied Rhythm in Short Loops” from his excellent book Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers. The project explores how rhythm emerges from almost any audio material if short fragments of it are repeated incessantly enough.

Step 1: Find or make an audio recording of the arrhythmic material of your choice and gradually reduce its loop length until rhythmic patterns begin to emerge.

Tip: This usually works well with loops that are no longer than about two seconds.

Tip: Good sources include: existing music, field recordings, and recordings of speech.

Tip: “Bad” or uneven loops can often yield the most interesting results. Don’t necessarily aim for loops with clean boundaries or that are aligned to zero-crossings.

Step 2: Use the inherent rhythm in these short loops as the basis for a piece of new music in which the “discovered” rhythm is clearly audible.

Disquiet Junto Project 0220: Rhythmic Arrhythmic
The Assignment: Make overtly rhythmic music from short loops of overtly arrhythmic source audio, following instructions from Dennis DeSantis.

Dennis DeSantis adapted this week’s project from the chapter “Implied Rhythm in Short Loops” from his excellent book Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers. The project explores how rhythm emerges from almost any audio material if short fragments of it are repeated incessantly enough.

Step 1: Find or make an audio recording of the arrhythmic material of your choice and gradually reduce its loop length until rhythmic patterns begin to emerge.

Tip: This usually works well with loops that are no longer than about two seconds.

Tip: Good sources include: existing music, field recordings, and recordings of speech.

Tip: “Bad” or uneven loops can often yield the most interesting results. Don’t necessarily aim for loops with clean boundaries or that are aligned to zero-crossings.

Step 2: Use the inherent rhythm in these short loops as the basis for a piece of new music in which the “discovered” rhythm is clearly audible.

Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 4: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process.

Step 5: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

The artist and engineer Paolo Salvagione is currently working on an extended piece of choreography. This Junto project is the first of likely several that might serve as sonic backdrops for the dance performance, and also as a form of research into the materials and ideas being explored by Salvagione and the dancers. (Audio produced for this Junto project will not be used by Salvagione without its composer’s permission.)

Step 1: You will be creating a short, roughly five-minute piece of quiet music. First, take into consideration the setting. Visualize that the piece would be performed by a young solo female dancer. She is dancing in a large space. The sounds of this Junto are the only sounds accompanying her movement. The sounds should be quiet — they should suggest quietness, peace — yet also work, when amplified, at a volume loud enough to fill the space.

Step 2: Using the sound of soft breaths, make a piece of sound/music roughly five minutes long that meets the criteria of Step 1.

The Assignment: Following the path of artist Kate Carr, explore sounds from a distance.

The artist and musician Kate Carr generously agreed to provide a prompt this week for the Junto.

Step 1: Consider the ways that sound changes as it travels across space, moving through specific human-built architectures and/or natural geographies. I live near Belfast’s major football stadium, and the roar that travels from the stadium, across the train tracks, up my street, and into my ears is a very different sound to the roar heard when standing in the stadium itself.

Step 2: Record a distant sound, and reflect on what frequencies have made it to your ears from the source, and which ones have bounced or decayed away.

Step 3: Compose a piece based on this recording, and your meditation on the ways its very journey to you has changed the sounds inherent in it.
