Elzinga - Remembering the Dead","description":"See the full presentation here: http:\/\/armedwithvisions.com\/2012\/03\/13\/b-j-elzinga-remembering-the-dead\r\n\r\nSinuously curving road \r\nearly morning quiet \r\ndisturbed by logging trucks, \r\nfat, belching accomplices \r\nin a mass murder. \r\nLooking north, I wince; \r\nclearcuts deface the land \r\nas acne on skin.\r\n\r\nSmell of fresh asphalt \r\npenetrates my nostrils. \r\nTrucks roar by \r\nleaving an ache in my heart. \r\nTall, naked trees \r\ncallously chopped \r\nbound tightly \r\non a flat bed.\r\n\r\nIn the forest \r\nsmell of fresh cuts \r\noverpowers the stench of humanity. \r\nRings attest \r\na longevity \r\nbeyond human endurance. \r\nHow long have these gentle giants \r\nstood strong and proud? \r\nWhat have they seen?\r\n\r\nAs another truck screeches by \r\neyes focus on flat bed. \r\nTears, like sawdust, fly. \r\nI hate piles of trees \r\nriding horizontally \r\nbut what hurts most \r\nare grand old ones \r\nfilling the truck \r\nalone.\r\n\r\nB.J.
