I am an electronic musician, producer, DJ and music lover! But what's a walking rhythm?
It is a jazz term for an energetic funky groove, and here, Walking Rhythms is about (but not restricted to any one of) the genres of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Latin, Disco: and any combinations of them! Walking Rhythms loves them all, and is devoted to rediscovering them and reworking them for anytime listening but also dancefloors now: to demonstrate how these sounds with and without updating can hold their own with modern EDM.
My original tracks are - for now - available to download free from here. Most of my re-edits are available at Legtimix - link: legitmix.com/discovery/remixer...walking-rhythms. All are free to download on there, but you may have to buy the digital version of the track used to create the edit or mix. For details see legitmix.com
I would be interested right now in contact with like-minded funksters to collaborate. either for DJ'ing, making own tracks or reworking others.
In the meantime, if you enjoy the tracks (and especially if you download, it's only polite) please do like, repost and leave a comment! This is much appreciated. Please also come by my Facebook or Twitter & say hi if you like the tracks - I always like to share the funky love!</itunes:summary>

Camelot key 6A, 122bpm. Wayne Henderson was one of the original Crusaders before going solo in the mid-70s, after which he released the 'Living On A Dream' set, containing this track. It's a cheeky, upbeat track given a DJ friendly re-edit to mix well with other uptempo jazzy/funk, or even to put a twist on some disco in a set.

This is a possibly overlooked gem on Soul II Soul's follow-up set to 'Volume 1', which of course was a huge worldwide smash in 1989. This cut was a bit different from Vol. 1, not least in its featuring an instrumental solo lead from the awesome Courtney Pine (who lets loose big style 2/3 of the way in!) and had that shuffling, early urban soul feel & a groove I found irresistible both then and now! I've tried to to imagine what an early 90s 'early urban' mix of this might have sounded like, using reverb and 'reverb slaps' as well as the odd scratch and de-pitched moment, all pretty big stuff (as I remember) in your typical early 90s urban soul track of this type. Hopefully I've managed to capture something of that flavour - and hope you enjoy it!

An extended re-work of this slow tempo (90bpm)laid-back but funky track! The original was only just over 2 minutes. Roy Ayers: a legend and my all-time favourite, start anywhere if you're not familiar with him, it's all fantastic. Wayne Henderson: originally from the Crusaders. Check also my re-rub of another track of his if you like this: https://soundcloud.com/walkingrhythms/wayne-henderson-hot-stuff-walking-rhythms-re-rub

So, Ray Barretto was a percussionist who laid down consistently funky latin grooves, and is possibly best known for his string of Latin/Jazz albums on the Fania label. However, tucked away on a 1977 album for Atlantic is this track- which inhabits a boundary-less mash of latin, jazz-funk, trad funk, salsa and is a lovely steady groove. I've given it some DJ-friendly elements and a few new bits and pieces. Hope you like it! If you do, check out this album, which has amongst its musicians several of the Crusaders!

Mixed In Key (Camelot) key 2A, 130bpm. This is a straight-forward extended DJ-friendly edit of a lesser known fabulous funk/jazz-funk/disco Mass Production album cut. If you like this, the two tracks to check out next from them are the sublime jazz-funk/disco stormer 'Cosmic Lust' and the more insistently grooving 'Shante'. Then try an album or two. you won't be disappointed (well, apart from the post-1980 ones maybe, but that's a personal choice thing!)

The original is a ground-breaking track that was totally ahead of its time: it kickstarted the Brit-funk movement in the UK in 1978, a movement that's always been rediscovered periodically over time but surely due a proper revival. If you like this track and aren't as familiar with Brit-funk, check out first their album (their only one I think..self-titled. In particular listen to the title track and 'Power & Lightning')and then check Light Of The World, the other main (and better known in the mainstream alongside Hi-Tension) Britfunk band, possibly a little jazzier than the funkier Hi-Tension. Then find the recent Joey Negro Britfunk compilation, it is epic: you won't be disappointed! Can you tell I like this sound? Sadly I couldn't put this on Legitmix as the track wasn't in the US itunes store. Shame.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by!
Please also come by my Facebook or Twitter & say hi if you like the tracks - I always like to share the funky love!

In July 1979, 'Disco sucked' when a baseball game in Chicago was hijacked at half-time for mass burning of disco records. Disco had, in fairness, become too much, far (at times) from its roots: but underneath the still popular genuine disco sound (as opposed to any hideous novelty disco records you care to cite) the sound had arguably been expanding and changing since about 1977-78. Boogie and jazz-funk were perhaps the first to develop further as the 80's loomed into view. Their hallmark was perhaps a smoother, more rhythmic and increasingly electronic take on disco...despite some prominent jazz influences. This mix is an introduction, and a tribute, to these sounds, a bit of a starter for 10...Part 2 is now also up at https://soundcloud.com/walkingrhythms/disco-sucks-the-aftermath-part-2-boogie-brit-funk, which has plenty of boogie (and even a touch of Brit-funk)...apologies for the rough mixing in places. Hope you enjoy it all the same! Photo is Deodato, pioneer of jazz-funk, disco and post-disco: an all-rounder, so well deserves the spotlight here!
