“Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m 64?” Well it’s the New Year and Clarisse are ready, willing and able to kick dancefloors into life, handing responsibility to Greece’s gold medal guardian of the groove Vangelis Kostoxenakis. Making a brisk reappearance on Clarisse after teaming with Barcelona’s Piem for the ‘Bros’ EP for the label’s 60th release, the Neon Music figurehead and face of Angel Stoxx and Phatjak opens 2017 with the sort of house contrasts that have served well the likes of KD Music and Glasgow Underground.

With a large helping of god-fatherly advice going above and beyond the well worn theme of a chopped up yelp and shriek, ‘Music Talk’ walks the walk and moves the groove. Propelled by a low and moody bassline keen to make a fast getaway while poppy percussion prances over Chicago house styling, VK’s use of dialogue, including choice samples to holler back at the DJ, criss-crosses over pushy rhythms to show who’s boss. Everything’s in place for ‘Music Talk’ to become one of the most recognisable tracks of the fledgling dancefloor year.

Twizzly synth lines and glam funk vibes head up ‘Slammin’, a disco cop pointing you towards you a good time with a busy bottom end that leaps and bounds through the track. If you’re gonna take up house music as a new year’s resolution, this is a good place to get the wheels in motion. Releasing the pressure as a party starter that won’t take the disco ball down with the holiday decorations, Kostoxenakis keeps the vibe light, friendly and likely to have you seeing stars while putting ants in your pants with its Technicolor licks shot from a P-funk cannon. Clarisse are writing their name over calendars already.
