<itunes:summary>Valiant Emcee is a drum-n-bass MC from Buffalo, NY, whose involvement in the genre goes back nearly two decades. After discovering house and techno in 1994, he quickly discovered drum-n-bass through a combination of cd and cassette releases: Goldie’s “Timeless”, LTJ Bukem’s “Logical Progression”, Metalheadz “Platinum Breakz”, and the now-legendary Dieselboy mixtape, “Witness the Strength”. After throwing several events in Buffalo in 1997 and 1998, including the city’s first all drum-n-bass warehouse party, “Enter the Dragon”, Valiant and his business partner decided promoting was not the realm for them, and they each decided to explore other ventures.
After making friends with Underground FM dj’s Cable, The Concept, Dan Ratel, and Stevie Washington, Valiant began experimenting with MC-ing on the radio. Motivated by his general detachment from the style of many MC’s at the time, he picked up the mic to stay involved with the music. Through the radio show and some local events, he worked to develop his skills to fit his vision of what he felt a drum-n-bass MC should sound like. He found sonic inspiration in such dnb vocalists as DRS, Conrad, Dynamite, Stamina, and Dub 2, hip hop pioneer Chuck D, and even elements of metal, hardcore, and punk.
In 1999, Valiant hosted North America’s first all deep drum-n-bass event, Submerge, which featured the first appearance of Seba on the continent, as well as the return of Atlantiq, aka Method One and Kaos. In 2001, after having held host duties at multiple events, he became resident MC for Return, a seminal Buffalo drum-n-bass weekly that brought in headliners that the city had never seen, in one of the most intimate, vibe-filled rooms in the city. Soon after, he became the resident MC for the mighty Factory at OPM Lounge, which became a regular tour stop for some of the biggest acts in the world. This led to being featured annually at the Winter Music Conference in Miami.
Regionally, Valiant was known to partner regularly with Cable (Good Looking Records, Telluric Records) and Toronto’s Mr. Brown (Soul in Motion, The Prophecy FM), with whom he still regularly collaborates. His versatile style is what allowed him to be chosen to perform regionally and around the country for a diverse array of artists, including Dara, Dieselboy, AK1200, Goldie, Grooverider, Craze, Roc Raida, John B, DJ Rap, Nookie, Darren Jay, Seba, Kenny Ken, Blame, Aphrodite, Evol Intent, Ewun, Reid Speed, Empress, Cable, Blame, Ed Rush, Optical, Marcus Visionary, DJ SS, Ewun (Kill the Noise), and many more artists, all of whom collectively represent the entire spectrum of drum-n-bass and breakbeat culture. But after relocating to Las Vegas in 2007, he decided to step back from drum-n-bass, having a family and teaching career to focus on.
2014 brought a great number of changes to Valiant’s life, including a move back to Buffalo, and a refocus on his career and artistic endeavors. In 2015, Valiant officially came out of drum-n-bass retirement, playing dates around Upstate New York and in Toronto for such artists as Dieselboy, Ed Rush and Optical, Makoto, Aphrodite, Pish Posh, Drumsound and Bassline Smith, Bladerunner, DJ SS, and Tantrum Desire, among others. He’s currently planning a new mix with his partner in crime, Mr. Brown, and recently released a mix with Toronto dj/producer DJ 6ix. New tracks and mixes are in the pipeline, so stay tuned.</itunes:summary>

A collaboration between Buffalo NY’s ALLDAY and VALIANT EMCEE, “Queen City Bass” is a celebration of the rich and perhaps underappreciated drum-n-bass pedigree of the Queen City. Allday has risen as DJ in the past five years, while Valiant Emcee’s tenure has spanned nearly two decades, and together they bring the evolution of the city’s drum-n-bass scene full circle. This mix is a selection of upfront dnb and jungle mixed and scratched in a way that would make DJ Marky proud, with a vocal treatment designed to highlight every bass line and breakdown while still keeping the vibe alive. This is Valiant Emcee's first mix since having a nodule removed from his vocal cords. “Play this in your car, and we’ll destroy the woofers!”

A collaboration between Toronto DJ/Producer, DJ 6IX, and Buffalo NY based VALIANT EMCEE, this mix aims to hearken back to the vibe of LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad (and later DRS) in their Logical Progression and Progression Sessions heyday. As longtime veterans of drum-n-bass music, this mix is both a throwback to those sounds, and a bold push into the future. 6ix weaves together a selection of music that is both emotionally deep and ready for the dancefloor. It's lush, bassy, and diverse, perfectly reflecting his production philosophy. Valiant bookends his new and current vocal material with two sets of 16 bars that he wrote back in 1998 when he started performing, emulating MC's Conrad, DRS and Dynamite in those early days. In between, he talks about science fiction, literature, rock and roll, hardcore punk, futurism, failing in relationships, and more. This is their first outing together, and it signifies a bright partnership for this pair.
