Bern Bass Podcast 54 - UPK 165 - SWISS NATIONAL DAY SPECIAL 2019

UPK 165 aka DJ Onesixfive is one of the original foundation DJs from Berne when it comes to all things Rave and Breakbeat. Starting out at the beginning of the Acid House Era in 1988, he soon pioneered the emerging new "Techno" sounds from England, Belgium and Germany, evolving from 4-to-the-floor basics to the more breakbeat- and bassline-driven styles of labels like Suburban Base, Impact, Ibiza or Knite Force that became more and more prominent and popular overall in Europe. Whilst being a DJ-mentoring figure to the soon-notorious United Tribes crew consisting of DJs like Sensi, Lockee, MF and MC Shoka, he went further along the evolution from Breakbeat to UK Hardcore to the new, exciting Jungle sounds. When the music changed again to Drum&Bass in the later 90s, UPK 165 took a different direction, going back to his roots in House & Techno and eventually living in Berlin for a couple of years. Still highly active after all the years, these days it’s all sorts of Electronica and Techno that the passionate vinyl DJ is interested in, whilst also focussing on his own productions in his homestudio. The National Day Special Mix is a retrospective on the Breakz-sounds from the early 2000s, in UPK 165’s own words „not too fast 4 chilling, not too slow to dance, so move on, chill on, have a great 1st of august and a hot summer“ – enjoy!
