The Mighty Oak Tree Lucy has fallen. I hope that you so honor me by listening to my first hybrid symphony that has weighed on my mind. I dedicate this to my mother who passed away last night. The Mighty Oak Tree has fallen but the mark that has been left will live on in memory for many years to come.

With a will as strong as hers she was a major life force to me. I will miss my good friend.

You see, she is a heroine. She is one of the first clinical studies in the US re-evaluating the bacterial fecal infusion technique to help cure C-Difficile that once claimed 14,000 lives annually in the US. She acquired C-diff like most serious surgical patients. The antibiotics from most major surgeries kills your mothers good bacteria.

She chose a path that would turn the strongest of beings into a whimper. The FDA has approved this life saving procedure for the many afflicted in the US. Many others have also adopted the procedure. She survived the nightmare and has emerged to a new place of consciousness and existence. My mother is my heroine. She is our heroine.

Growing up in Appalachia afforded me a wonderful opportunity to listen to this form of musical presentation and having the appreciation at the time that it was just plain great music. John Denver brought a different flavor to the music scene which was a raw singer-songrwiter with rich stories to tell to us in the 1970s. Many were corny but a few stand out like this beauty. A classic in every sense of the word we are taken along a country road driving homeward bound to Appalachia where our roots await us and make us feel at peace and full of joy.

Denver, Taffy Nivert, and Bill Danoff have written a delightful tune and in its study got my Friedlander Violin and a few other woodwind nuggets along the way. Another mountain climbing journey. What a wonderful instrument to learn.

It would so honor me if you were to sing along with this ... Lyrics are at the bottom :-))

"Take Me Home, Country Roads"

Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

All my memories gather round her, miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

I hear her voice in the morning hour she calls me, the radio reminds me of my home far away.
And driving down the road I get a feeling that I should have been home yesterday, yesterday.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads

May You find your Mountain Mama in your mind for just a moment or two :-))

Inspired by a good friend and supporter, Achimedes, AKA, David Stuart who once advised me last year to acquire a Symphobia product with a small windfall. I could afford the Orchestra Essentials library (some day to upgrade to full Symphobia) and have tried to learn this sophisticated VSTi library. I have been climbing a few mountains and am quite thrilled with his advice. This is my small contribution to an appropriate send off to our dear friend leaving the land of dreams and heading to the heartland of America. So long fellow soundclouder. We know that we will hear from you often.

The reason I mention this is that David is heading home. We know all the reasons as my greatest love and I have battled cancer for over three long years with success. Our victory is unlike the bitter challenges that David has had to face and struggle with and this has weighed on my mind heavily whilst composing this suite.

I know we all want to wish him great success on his new journey. I hope this suite will energize David to follow his bliss with great intensity. As Joseph Campbell once noted, "Follow your bliss and doors will open where you thought none existed."

We wish you a very safe and enlightening journey. We know that you will make the very most of it. Some students are in for a treat I am quite sure and you will soon be with family and friends. You are home already :-))

Of course I fused OE and my London Solo Strings, Freidlander Violin, HollywoodWinds, and Westgate solo instruments to represent the journey and its many challenges and rewards. I wish him blue skies and smooth tail winds !!

I wish him blue skies and smooth tail winds !!</itunes:summary>

Another journey down the nostalgic path and we are taken to a warm and cuddly place. Not sure how chestnut roasting started but not a big fan. Maybe it is the smell of it more than the taste. Well the Nat King Cole Trio recorded this first in 1946 after Torme' and Wells had a moment of inspiration on a hot summer's day. Or, was it perhaps, perspiration. In any event, we feel the warmth of a fire on a cool evening, probably in San Francisco. And the chestnuts smolder :-)

Thanks for coming along this little holiday journey this year with me and this is my final installment this year. I think Mel would like this and I sure would have liked to have him rendering his vocals alongside .... ah , it is but a dream.

Some old and new favorite instruments complement the orchestra. Surely having a great time making and sharing this music to all of my friends, followers, and family :-)) Happiest of Holidays to you all !!

Plus you get a free download of the CD quality mix :-))

Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops has brought an arrangement like no other and a sense of this journey since 1949. Written during a hot summers day this little tune has you rocking and rolling down hills and dales as you sled around the country side through the snow.

The composition was performed by Leroy Anderson in 1946. Lyrics were written but Fiedler made it their signature piece by 1949 as an instrumental. Instant hit. It has grown into what is an icon of the holiday season.

Thanks for coming along and enjoy some new sounds from Essentials and London Solo Strings.
So, sit back with your favorite person in a nice warm blanket and take a little sleigh ride. Some twists and turns abound as some talented recording artists in freesound.org were kind enough to contribute through creative commons.
"O Holy Night" ("Cantique de Noël") is a well-known Christmas Carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808–1877). Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet, had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem. A Unitarian minister, John Sullivan Dwight created a singing edition based on Cappeau's French text in 1855. In both the French original and in the two familiar English versions of this piece, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and of humanity's redemption. (wikipedia)

Well, I have never been able to sing the lyrics and they are too complex for most people to sing, but we all know this song and O' Holy Night can be complemented by choirs who practice it extensively. My take was to simply write an arrangement using some new musical elements using some new string VSTs.

I am loving my new Friedlander Violin by Embertone and a new acquistion of Orchestral Essentials by Symphobia. WOW. I just love these instruments. Learning these jewels has consumed what little time I can find right now.

I hope that you enjoy my rendition and that your own personal redemption comes during this joyous season. I wish all of you, my dear friends, collaborators, followers, and those I follow a peaceful holiday season. May happiness abound in your lives.

For the gear heads, I drove the limits of my machine to its capacity using Friedlander, OE, London Solo Strings, Westgate Studios Harp and few other fun twists along the way. I programmed my choir using Directwave from several sample libraries from the Hallelujah choir samples. Thanks for your ears and your time :-))

Only Mozart can make an instrument come alive as he does in this concerto. I wanted to really explore all the possibilities with a recent VST clarinet I have been learning in this arrangement.

There is a passage from Out of Africa where this piece is referenced as Denys was inclined to bring three rifles, supplies for a month, and Mozart on safari. This piece has always spoken to me from the first time I heard it.

Although created for Stadler who had an extended range bass clarinet, it was years before it was realized with new instruments designed with the extended range to low C. Perhaps I will redo this when I can afford to add the bass to my bevy of VSTs. Until then, I have taken the liberty of transposing a few of the lower notes into the higher octave, and perhaps, even cover all three movements someday.

I gracefully and humbly submit this study from the Adagio section of this brilliant concerto for your enjoyment. I hope that it tickles your ears as much as it has mine for so many years. :-))

:-))</googleplay:description>

This little piece came to me via the benefit of improvisation on the piano for about 2 hours one day and all good things happened from there. I am saving for the EW Symphonic Choir and hope to add that flavor some day to this piece. Until then, I hope you enjoy the Kontakt choir voices as I just upgraded to K5 so I could add in some oboe.

Frankly, I usually have some theme or sentiment running through my head when I compose a piece like this. Sadly, I do not. so let me know how it makes you feel in the comments if you would like. Addional Note. I am heading somewhere with this symphony now. Check out the movement to immediately follow Chorality at http://soundcloud.com/larslooperman/cultural-collision.

All I know is when this came together I felt as though another hand was touching mine. Hope that you will make comments :-)) Thanks for the listen.

Check out http://soundcloud.com/larslooperman/sets/chorality/ for the entire Symphonia
