trndmsk: Iman, what can we look forward to in the next few minutes?

Iman Hanzo: You can look forward to a mixture of Afro and Progressive house. The journey takes about 2 hours.

How did you survive the corona pandemic so far?

I tried to be creative. I didn’t want to be influenced by the negative vibes. Of course the pandemic is there and we have to live with it. In this difficult time new ideas and friendships are born. Because of the fact that I have been very involved with music, I have survived until now :)

How did you choose the tracks?

In the last 6 months I have listened to music intensively which I liked very much. So I thought that I should mix them together.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

I like the intro very much. I was inspired by the soundtrack of the movie "Tenet". Otherwise I like all tracks.

What are your near future projects? Are you working on any other projects?

My next project will be an EP. The EP is called "Samas" and contains 4 tracks which I produced with my friend "84 Avenue" from Paris. The EP will be released in mid November. Also I experimented a lot on a new sound in the studio. I will present it in the second part of next year.

What inspired you to produce „Canario"?

I love to be in nature. That inspired me a lot.

Where did you record it? And how?

I produced it in the studio with Cubase. I had the harmonies in my head and I knew that it would fit together with the vocals. I also listened to a lot of birdsong from a sample cd and then I decided to use this one.

How did you choose the title of the EP? Is there a special meaning behind it?

As a child I had a canary bird. In the track you can also hear that.

Derun, PAAX Tulum and Artenvielfalt have contributed fantastic remixes - what connects you with the artists?

I have been following Derun for a while now. His music inspires me a lot and I thought a remix of Derun would fit perfectly. Great artist. PAAX Tulum, are also good artists. I had some nice conversations with them. I think there will be another collaboration in the near future. I have a very good relationship with the guys from Artenvielfalt. We have played together at many events. Great guys!

How was the feedback so far?

I have sent it to my friends and dj friends. The feedback was very positive. I am looking forward to the release.

How will you spend your time until the EP release?

As already mentioned I will spend a lot of time in the studio and work on my new sound, which I will present next year.

This mix consists solely of what I liked over the past few months, I tried to complete everything in an hour, and make it as harmonious as possible.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

My favs are: Powel - Perelin Der Nachtwald, Boatman - Shanti Shanti, Pan-Pot - Captain My Captain (Rodriguez Jr. Remix). I'm always looking for something new and I really love to discover new artists and their high-quality
compositions and I like to add a little from the past.

What are your near future projects? Are you working on any other projects?

I completely devote myself to my project, in September will be a very big step for me in the music industry, but you will see it for yourself.

The 50th edition of our Future Stars series is called "Animes in the Morning" and comes from @iaminvkr.

trndmsk: When did you record the set?

INVŌKER: I recorded the set for a livestream on a sunday morning while watching animes. The livestream can be viewed on my facebook here:  https://www.facebook.com/iaminvkr/live.

What surrounded you at the time?

For this set I was surrounded by the cosy atmosphere of my home, playing music and drinking tea, just perfect. I had just finished watching the Japanese animation movie "Ocean Waves" a couple of days before and decided to play it in the background.

How did you choose the tracks? Did you make a plan before you recorded the mix?

I don't always do, but this time I planned this mix. I wanted to do something different for the livestream. With the quarantine, everybody is putting out mixes and very often we hear the same type of "clubbing at home" sets and I just grew tired of them. I do miss the clubs and going out, but with this situation I think it's also the opportunity to create something different. The idea behind this mix was to do something people can relax to. Also, I just finished watching some japanese amines and was very inspired by the atmosphere in these movies while selecting the tracks. Those are the ingredients I looked for in the track selection.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

My favorite track is: "Taj Raya" by Ksky, I love the vibe in this track so much! For me, this track defines the atmosphere I wanted for this mix.

What three songs do you tend to use in your current sets?

Currently, I focus on playing live, so I mostly play my unreleased music. These sets can be found on my soundcloud,  I even livestreamed one recently. 
In DJ sets I love playing 3 very different tracks: Omnibus by Henrik Schwarz, Meet Me at the Escape Pod by Me, and Bashi Mwana (Danny Goliger Edit) by Musi O Tunya.

What are your near future projects? Are you working on any other projects?

I am currently working on a lot of stuff!! Several EPs are coming out this year on various labels. The next one is a very summery EP with a french label called Azzur. A few remixes are on the way too. Addtionally, I am also putting out a very cinematic self-release this month. Recently, I started learning some animation techniques to create visuals for my music. All this work allows me to focus on a global objective: crafting and perfecting my one hour live show. Hopefully when things get better, I will be able to perform and unveil this project.

When did you record the set? What surrounded you at the time?

I was asked to create a livestream for WooMoon. As they wished to stream the set directly out of the artists home, I sat down in my living room and started to play.

How did you choose the tracks? Did you make a plan before?

What I personally need the most during these times is music. I need melodies that make me fly while being in quarantine. I wanted to create a story that reflects this. An experience that goes deeper.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

Yes, I love the second to last one in particular. Its energy is amazing.

When did you record the set? What surrounded you at the time?

I was asked to create a livestream for WooMoon. As they wished to stream the set directly out of the artists home, I sat down in my living room and started to play.

How did you choose the tracks? Did you make a plan before?

What I personally need the most during these times is music. I need melodies that make me fly while being in quarantine. I wanted to create a story that reflects this. An experience that goes deeper.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

Yes, I love the second to last one in particular. Its energy is amazing.

What three songs do you tend to use in your current sets?

When did you record this set?

This is a brand new set. It was written specifically for you.

What then surrounded you?

It was midnight. My cat was sitting on the window and looking at the road. Rare cars passed by. Everyone was isolated. Everyone was with his family. And this is the main point.

How did you choose these tracks?

In this mix, I wanted to combine the dance part and the depth of feelings. These are the memories of those times when we were all there. All on one dance floor. And now you can spin in dance to this music. This is a combination of old classics and new genre formats.

Have you had a plan before?

I always have a plan. I like to be proactive. I set myself small goals and go in their direction.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

There are 2 special tracks in this mix. And you can only hear them in this mix. The first track: this is a composition from my future album which will be released in September on my label: Lostcolor.

Second track: this is a wonderful remix from my friends Pandhora. The release will be released at the end of May. This will be an EP of 4 tracks - 1 original and 3 remixes.

What three songs do you usually use in your current sets?

As a rule, I use my exclusive tracks in my sets.

What are your projects for the near future?

At the end of May, the EP is planned to be released; at the end of September - a big new album.

Are you working on any other projects?

Most of the time now is the development of my new label - Lostcolor. This is a special concept, it is a special world with its own tales, pictures and showcase in the future.

trndmsk: Annett, what can we look forward to in the next few minutes?

Annett Gapstream: To a wide variety of feelings. Just like in a real rave there will be moments of relatively straight techno tunes as well as melodies and passages to dream around.

When did you record the set? What surrounded you at the time?

Yesterday at home. I had the strong desire to play some music after - due to the virus - a couple of gigless weeks.

How did you choose the tracks? Did you make a plan before?

I didn’t make a plan before. I think it took the longest time to find a nice opening track. Usually, in clubs, you see the crowd and the dj before you - feeling this situation normally lets me pick my first track. But at home there is no initial feeling and I just start somewhere. Thus choosing a kind of introduction always takes the most time in my preparations of a home recording.

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix?

No, actually I can’t tell which one is my fav over all others.

What three songs do you tend to use in your current sets?

Annett Gapstream - Finally (Max Tresher Remix)
Manuel Meyer - Same (Olivier Giacomotto Remix)
Township Rebellion - most times a track - this time their new one Humanity Offline

What are your near future projects?

Well, guess the overall project is to get through this virus crises, to get back in the clubs and hopefully sliding into a nice festival season.

Are you working on any other projects?

I’m working on more own tracks and try to get this daily routine of producing right now. Besides this there’s a Columbia Tour upcoming in September - I hope this will be possible.

The 46th edition of our Future Stars series is called "A Journey through the Israeli Burn" and comes from @amir-telem.

trndmsk: Amir, what can we look forward to in the next few minutes? 

Amir Telem: I prepared a downtempo, melodic, emotional set for you. I included a few originals. Thanks for this opportunity and I hope you'll enjoy my work. 

When did you record the set? What surrounded you at the time?

This set was recorded and played live during the Contra Burn festival 2019, Israel. It was sunset time. I was just a few meters from the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus walked on water. 

How did you choose the tracks? Did you make a plan before the gig?

I was inspired by downtempo sets of my talented DJ/Producers friends: Janoma and Mustafa Ismaeel.

How would you describe the atmosphere during your performance?
Beautiful and happy. Nature and many smiles. 

Do you have a favorite track included in the mix? 

Yes, the 2nd track: Sképson with "Taumel". Simply magical. Thank you for that piece. 

What three songs do you tend to use in your current sets?
Amir Telem - Words from The Spiritual World (El Mundo & Zazou Remix) [Kindisch]
Julian Wassermann - Human [Parquet]
Elfenberg - Kigelia [Stil vor Talent]

Summer is over. What moments or festivals do you like to remember?

Internally, I remember moments of divine grace, where things seemed to be aligned and there were no fear, just hope. Externally, During Contra Burn Festival, we worked all night long in building from scratch one amazing sound-camp, where we played and partied for the next couple of nights.  

What are your near future projects? Are you working on any other projects?

Yes, I'm devoting more time and effort into music production. I have a few more releases planned for the next few months (including in trndmsk Records). I hope to master my music and also, to go deeper in my spiritual practice. If I'll manage to stay connected spiritually, the music will go through me as an instrument.

Raynor de Groot and Emiel van den Dungen aka @tunnelvisions1 originated from a shared vision of contemporary club music. They believe that the club scene that is often focusing on a colder, abstract high-tempo sound needs to go back to a more organic approach. It’s one of the goals of their newly created Tunnelvisions project: “We aim to bring back the fun to the dance floor again”.

Raynor and Emiel, what can we look forward to in the next few minutes?

This mix is actually a live recording of the first hour of our set in Perron, Rotterdam. We opened the night before Frank Wiedemann / Ame, and it was supposed to the afterparty of Rotterdam’s Toffler festival. We thought, let’s start it off easy going, but ended up quickly getting into the party mode since people were ready for that. The set (the total of three hours) is still one of the best sets we’ve played so far. It’s really diverse and has unreleased Tunnelvisions material in there as well. Hope you guys enjoy.

Pure improvisation in the moment. We never prepare our setlist. We hate being bound by rules so we just do whatever we think is sweet. (...)

Uns war es wichtig einen Podcast zu kreieren, der dieses Mal vom Sound näher an unsere Livesets im Club kommt. Unseren letzter Podcast für den Klunkerkranich hatten wir mit Moritz Ebert aufgenommen. Er ist ein wirklich toller Cello-Spieler. Die Symbiose, die daraus entstanden ist, unterscheidet sich jedoch schon von unserem Clubsound. Während unserer sechsmonatigen Reise durch Nord. und Südamerika gab es viele wundervolle emotionale Momente und viele Höhen und Tiefen, die sehr lehrreich waren und uns an Lebenserfahrung haben wachsen lassen. Es ist schwierig, diese wunderbare Zeit in Worte zu fassen, deswegen haben wir versucht, die Tracks auszuwählen, die unserer Empfindungen des Erlebten widerspiegeln und uns auf unserem Abenteuer begleitet haben. Man kann schon ein bisschen die Melancholie unseres Fernwehs hören. (...)

trndmsk: Wie hast Du die Stücke für den Mix ausgesucht?

Noema: Ich spiele als DJ ja sehr eklektisch. In diesem Mix wollte ich verschiedene Richtungen, die aber den selben Ansatz haben, zusammenbringen. Außerdem wollte ich gerne mal wieder einen uptempo Mix machen. Meine letzten Podcasts waren eher Downbeat orientiert, was aber nicht unbedingt die Realität meiner DJ-Sets im Club widerspiegelt. trndmsk: Schleppi und Nayan, was erwartet uns in den nächsten Minuten?

Amount: Also, zunächst ist der Podcast nicht ganz so hart wie meine DJ-Sets, die auch mal etwas minimaler klingen können, aber auch nicht total slow. Ich finde ja, dass Podcast-Mixe sich nicht zu sehr von dem Sound unterscheiden sollte, den man auch im Club spielt, was in meinem Fall treibend und auch mal etwas doller ist, aber fast immer mit Inhalt – nicht zu stumpf halt.

Schlepp Geist: Das sehe ich ganz ähnlich. Ich finde es leicht befremdlich, wenn Clubsound und der Sound im Podcast zu weit auseinander driften und man den Künstler quasi nicht mehr wiedererkennt. Auf der anderen Seite kann man in einem Podcast schon ruhig etwas experimenteller an die Sache herangehen und auch Nummern mit reinpacken, die man nicht zwingend im Club spielen würde. (...)

Ende Februar 2015 brachte das Keinemusik-Mitglied Gregor Sütterlin alias Rampa gemeinsam mit dem französischen Produzenten und Sänger Aquarius Heaven die EP “Good Times” – unser damaliger Sound der Woche – raus. Im Gespräch über das Release mit trndmsk sagte der gebürtige Freiburger, dass vor allem Freunde, die Architektur und “Scheiße im Fernsehen” ihn inspirieren. “Es kommt einfach. Mein Anspruch an Musik hängt davon ab, wo ich bin und welche Musik läuft – aber das zu beschreiben, ist sehr schwierig. Seit 2008 steht die gebürtige Bremerin Bebetta hinter den Plattenspielern und konnte im darauffolgenden Jahr den Tresor Newcomer-Awards gewinnen. Seither reist die Wahlfrankfurterin mit ihrer Plattenkiste hinaus in die weite Welt. Ihr Sound erstreckt sich dabei von melodischen House bis hin zu treibenden Tech-House. 2011 gründet die Musikerin mit Heimlich ihre eigene Veranstaltungsreihe in ihrer Heimatstadt und begann noch im selben Jahr mit eigenen Produktionen. Im Mai 2012 erschien ihre erste Veröffentlichung via Damm Records: “Herr Kapellmeister”. Nun stellte sie kurz vor Jahreswechsel unseren 31. Podcast zusammen – und fiebert ebenso dem Release der trndmsk01 entgegen.

Bebetta: Die Trackauswahl erstellte ich im November, während ich warm eingekuschelt auf dem Sofa mit Kopfhörern und Tee die Zeit verbrachte und es draußen immer düsterer, kälter und trister wurde. Diese kühle Stimmung wollte ich aber nicht in mein Set einfließen lassen.

The Glitz: Bei unseren Sets spielen wir immer sehr viele eigene Songs – und natürlich auch viele unveröffentliche Titel. Dazu kommen dann selbstverständlich Tracks von anderen Produzenten, die wir gut und passend finden. Aber im Grunde sind die Sets nie vorgeplant und entstehen in dem Moment.

Normalerweise ist Smash TV ein klassisches Arcade-Spiel. Der Spieler des Games wird in eine verschlossene Arena geworfen und muss sich den Weg mit einer Vielzahl an Waffen freischießen. Nun ja, in unserem Fall handelt es sich bei Smash TV aber um ein Berliner Produzenten-Gespann. Hinter dem Pseudonym verbergen sich die beiden Musiker Holger Zilske und Kai Preussner. "Wir sind leidenschaftliche Gärtner, Amateur-Baristas, Dating-Coaches und ein international renommiertes Liveact-, DJ-und Produzenten-Teams", so die beiden Künstler über sich selbst. Sie publizierten bereits einige Produktionen auf Labels wie Get Physical Music, Bar25, Leena, Katermukke sowie auf dem Imprint der Gebrüder Tiefschwarz, Souvenir. Am 7. Juli 2014 erscheint ihre neueste EP: "Rainmaker". Das Werk wird auf dem Label Microzoo herausgebracht und beinhaltet unter anderem einen Remix von Kiki. Vor dem Release fertigten sie aber noch ein Mixtape für trndmusik an: Podcast Nummer 26 nämlich!

Die aus Oslo stammenden Musikproduzenten Vegard Wolf Dyvik und Carl Christian Steenstrup sind seit 2006 gemeinsam unter dem Alias Of Norway unterwegs. 2011 und 2012 veröffentlichten sie zwei 12Inches auf dem Offenbacher Imprint Connaisseur Recordings. Nun bringt das Label auch ihren ersten Longplayer, “Accretion”, Ende Mai 2014 auf den Markt. In ihrem DJ-Set für uns - zugleich unser 24. trndmusik Podcast - haben die beiden Musiker bereits einige Werke aus ihrem kommenden Album eingebaut.

Chasing Kurt ist ein Deep-House-Projekt aus dem hessischen Gießen. Hinter dem Pseudonym verbergen sich die drei Musiker Pascal Blanché, Wojtek Kutschke und Lukas Poloczek. Pascal und Wojtek, beide seit vielen Jahren dem Deep House verfallen, begannen mit ihren ersten eigenen Produktionen, merkten aber schnell, dass ihren Songs die Vocals fehlten. Wojtek - selbst seit langem als DJ tätig - spielte eines Tages in seiner Heimatstadt – am selben Abend arbeitete Lukas an der Bar und sang nach Wojteks Set beim Aufräumen ein paar Strophen vor sich hin. Wojtek hörte seine Stimme und fragte ihn, ob er nicht Lust auf einen gemeinsamen Jam hätte. Der Track "Daydream" war das Ergebnis der ersten improvisierten Jam Session in Pascals kleinem Homestudio. Die Kurts waren schlicht überwältigt und dachten sich: Da kann man doch mehr draus machen. Für trndmusik stellten sie die 27. Ausgabe unserer Podcastserie zusammen.

trndmusik: Wie habt Ihr die Stücke für den Podcast ausgesucht? Gab es ein bestimmtes Konzept, das Ihr verfolgt habt?

Chasing Kurt: Die Podcasts und die DJ-Sets bei uns macht Wojtek. Manchmal fragt er uns, ob es Musik gibt bzw. einen Track, der uns am Herzen liegt. Dann baut er das Konzept um die Tracks herum auf. Er möchte, dass das Musikgefühl von uns allen zu spüren ist. Natürlich mixt er auch immer wieder unsere eigenen Sachen rein. Bei diesem Set ist er ähnlich vorgegangen. Unter anderem ist diesmal ein noch unveröffentlichter Remix des Tracks "Running Searching" von Mario Basanov dabei.

Chasing Kurt: Die Podcasts und die DJ-Sets bei uns macht Wojtek. Manchmal fragt er uns, ob es Musik gibt bzw. einen Track, der uns am Herzen liegt. Dann baut er das Konzept um die Tracks herum auf. Er möchte, dass das Musikgefühl von uns allen zu spüren ist. Natürlich mixt er auch immer wieder unsere eigenen Sachen rein. Bei diesem Set ist er ähnlich vorgegangen. Unter anderem ist diesmal ein noch unveröffentlichter Remix des Tracks "Running Searching" von Mario Basanov dabei.

Nicolas Demuth alias Parra for Cuva wuchs in einer kleinen niedersächsischen Stadt auf, die er nach dem Abitur für sein Audio Design Studium im wilden, pulsierenden Berlin hinter sich ließ. Die vielfältigen Musikeinflüsse der Metropole verstärkten seine bereits ausgeprägte Faszination zur Produktion elektronischer Musik und verhalfen zu der Einzigartigkeit seiner Werke. Die langjährige Musikausbildung am Klassik- und Jazzklavier unterstützen ihn in all seinen musikalischen Ideen. (...) Zwei Brüder, eine Passion: elektronische Musik – der eine House, der andere Techno. Lars und Sven, zwei Brüder aus Halle an der Saale, stehen heute für atmosphärischen House, unter den sich immer wieder Samples verschiedenster Instrumente mischen. Unter ihrem Alias Monkey Safari gründeten sich vor mehr als einem Jahr das Label Hommage und betreiben ebenso den Club Charles Bronson in ihrer Heimatstadt. Mit trndmusik sprachen die beiden Musikproduzenten über die Labelarbeit, die Philosophie der Plattform und über ihr kommendes Album. Ausserdem stellten sie unseren 29. Podcast zusammen.
