OCTOBER 17, 2009

*The mix was recorded on 2 x CDJ’s, Mackie digital mixer using traktror skratch to conform at 3am on 14th October after a few lagers. Mastered and encoded in Logic the following morning, still with a glass of wine in-hand.

To coincide with the awesome interview that The Project Club did for us this month, Steve has kindly put together this mix to give us a further taste of what they are all about and also what you might expect to hear down at the hugely successful Mondo Disco or Balearica nights that he runs in East London.

It’s a wonderful mix of downtempo balearic lushness, chilled electronica and quality house and we’ve been listening to it non stop since it arrived here at The Electric Disco so we think you’re going to like it too!

Thanks again to Steve for taking the time out to put it together for us.
This is the first of a few old tapes recently rescued from the back of a cupboard that I’m going to be uploading over the next few days.

This one dates back to 1992 and is one of several that were bought directly from the Cafe’s DJ booth. It was one of an incredible series of mixes that we collected over the course of the summer, all recorded at sunset, live from the cafe.

The mixes were each simply labeled with a number and by the end of the year we’d managed to get hold of either original or fairly decent copies of most of them.

Sadly at the time I don’t think we realised the importance or relevance these mixes would have in years to come and most are now long gone, so I’m glad this particular tape has just about stood the test of time as it was a favourite back then and just listening to the opening few tracks for the first time in over 10 years brings it all flooding back!

Hope you enjoy it, more to come soon…
Well we’ve finally gotten around to uploading the second from the series of old tapes found at the back of a cupboard last year and this one is from the balearic godfather himself, Alfredo, playing at Amnesia sometime early in 1991.

It’s a nice chilled mix of some of the big records from that summer, quite a few which we’ve never identified including a corker that Felix Dickinson dropped at the Nicky Siano party in Brixton last year (which annoyingly we forgot to ask him about…)

Anyway, it nicely sums up the eclectic selection that soundtracked our first few trips to Amnesia and it’s well worth a listen!

Enjoy.

This month we’re really happy to be able to share this truly stunning mix that Andy Pye from Balearic Social Radio has kindly put together for us.

Balearic Social has been running for quite a while now and we were quite late getting on board, but we’re glad to have discovered them when we did because it’s turning out to be a regular goldmine of truly amazing music.

Run by Andy Pye from his base in Leeds, Balearic Social is a weekly podcast and radio show featuring a consistently inspiring selection of music put together by Andy himself alongside other regular heavyweight guests, based around their love of all things Balearic, but flawlessly branching out into any and all other surrounding genres. The perfect formula really!

You can find out more about Balearic Social, listen to the radio shows and also access an archive of lovingly crafted mixes from both Balearic Social and Outlaws Yacht Club on these sites…

Once again we want to thank Andy for putting such an excellent mix together for us, we’re absolutely loving it and can’t wait to hear more from Balearic Social in the future.

Enjoy.
A little balearic treat arrived in our inbox this morning in the shape of a lovely new mix from good friend of The Electric Disco, Andrew Clarke.

Andrew has been involved in music in one way or another for most of his life, primarily as a record collector and DJ, but recently has rapidly and deservedly also gained a reputation as a top notch producer, responsible for some of the best disco and rock edits being turned out on what seems like a weekly basis.

We’ve been looking forward to getting one of his mixes for some time and this one is a real gem from start to finish and we’re happy to be sharing it with you.

If you haven’t caught Andrew DJ’ing or are yet to hear any of the AC Re-edits then head over to his soundcloud page where you’re you’re in for a musical treat.

In the meantime here’s his latest offering, exclusively mixed for us here at The Electric Disco.
Massive thanks to Andrew for putting it together for us.
