She Never Touched My Soul (Like Rock 'n' Roll)

Sometimes there are songs that you need to get out of your head in order to move on. ‘She Never Touched My Soul (Like Rock ‘n’ Roll) is one such song.

It is not that it is a bad song. It is OK. It just seemed to be blocking me up creatively so I was in a rush to finish it.

It is actually a very honest song from a lyrical perspective. It is all about wasting time pining for someone that you know isn’t worth it. I tried to sum it up in the chorus by saying I am fully aware that I am obsessing over someone who could never even touch me like music.

Anyway, the music itself is my brand of country - fairly minimalist. It usually consists of just a handful of chords. I refer to this kind of music as ‘country drift’. It seems to float around on a country backdrop and gets a bit trance like or even psychedelic. Once again I picked up the banjo.

I rushed the vocals on this one, you can hear me stumble in the second. I was eager to move on to a more rocking song that is in the works so I decided to just give this the once over.

One thing I do like is the nifty little guitar solo. It was a complete one off and first take. It had a really compact feel to me.

All in all, this is a very traditional sounding song by my standards. I like the melody and probably should have spent a bit more time developing it and adding other parts. For now it is what it is.
