I am not a religious person so I really can’t explain why a song like ‘If All Is A Lie’ poured out of me.

Where the hell did it come from?

After all this time, I’m still not sure where I stand on religion. I guess I find it amazing how some people can retain perfect faith in such a cruel world, whilst others are so unflinchingly sure that God doesn’t exist. In reality both camps are no closer to having the answer.

Want my advice? Just concentrate on being a good person. We will all find out the answer in the end. another dime store philosophy lesson over...

Written and recorded in 2011, I can’t tell you the exact meaning of the song. It is either about faith or the lack of faith depending on your point of view. More than that, I think it is a song about contradictions. In particular I find the lyrics in the chorus interesting - love to hear your interpretations if you got any.

As for the music, it has a bit of The Stones, CSN&Y and The Who (think ‘Magic Bus’) - a bit of a 60's gospel rock thing happening. Interestingly, it is one of the few songs where you can really detect my Australian accent. It wasn’t a conscious decision it just sort of happened. It might be something I do more often in the future. I think it would work better in a slightly different context or stronger song.

To be honest, I am a little embarrassed by this track. I can’t say that I like it, but I made the decision a while ago to put everything out there. I think it is interesting.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

LYRICS...

With each mistake I sacrifice a part of me, a part of you
I can’t pretend, I can just give flight
Homeward bound
I’m homeward bound...

When Abraham drew his knife,
There was trust in hand and trust in heart
It takes more than me
It takes more than you
Were both so small under God’s great sky

If all is a lie / If all is a dream
It’s all the same to me to me
So forgive your heart /forgive life’s seems
Ain’t nothing perfect to me
To me...

Did Jesus Christ have a price?
Was he more like me, or more like you?
We can’t contend we can just give fight
I am – we stand before all knowing eyes.

Well, words might fail and reason be bound
And God’s good grace seems a lifetime away
It takes more than me
It takes more than you
Were both so small under God’s great sky

If all is a lie / If all is a dream
It’s all the same to me to me
So forgive your heart /forgive life’s seems
Ain’t nothing perfect to me
To me...

If all is a lie / If all is a dream
It’s all the same to me to me
So forgive your heart /forgive life’s seems
Ain’t nothing perfect to me
To me...
