‘Halfway Home’ is an upbeat throw away that I recorded in 2007 (maybe 2008). After uploading the likes of ‘Combat Boots’, ‘I Was There...’ and ‘We Are The End Of Everything’ I thought it was time to release something a bit lighter and not as intense.

The version here is a demo and you can hear that I used the same song writing technique as on ‘Combat Boots’ – i.e. using the same continuous beat for the entirety of the song. It is not perfect but I think it drives the song along nicely. From memory I also have a simple acoustic version kicking around somewhere but I'd probably need CSI to track it down.

The music is fairly pop. It is based around an upbeat acoustic riff with a slight country flavor to it. I actually think it has a bit of a hippie vibe to it. It reminds me of a sound that I can't put my finger on.

At 2:21, the guitar solo kicks in with a slightly trance like background. Like ‘Living Under The Same Skies’ or ‘In The Year Of Our Lord’, I went through a period of trying combine country/blues with trance textures and backdrops. In my mind it works, don’t know if you will agree.

The lyrics seem a little bit cryptic but they are all about uncertainty. Moreover, they are about perspective and how everything can be interpreted differently depending on your point of view and where you stand. There are some indirect nods to Dylan, religion and few other bits and pieces.

As mentioned, this is a throwaway song. It is pleasant enough but not really representative of what I do. I doubt I’ll ever record a final version of the song as it is a bit too happy sounding for me. Anyway, here it is.

Hope you enjoy!

LYRICS...

Halfway home or stuck in the middle?
Felt nailed to a cross – you got me, oh-woh!
I fell through the cracks, still know where it’s at
Just a rock n’ roll Jew is the best I can do boy...

If you follow religion don’t poison your children
Just keep one foot through heaven’s open door
Mistakes that you make won’t soon be forgotten
You made one now and you made it before

I’ve been waiting for some guidance to come and lead me to where I’m going
I’ve been waiting for some guidance to come and lead me to where I’m going
Every time you go flashing by sing...

Well I ain’t too bad just looking for a fight now
My cheap suit smile is my disguise - my sword
I fall to my knees, I just don’t have the time
Life moves so fast and fast move I

Just breath it in, breath it out
Breath it in, breath it out
This is what I feel it’s what it’s all about
Just breath it in, breath it out
Breath it in, breath it out
This is what I feel it’s what it’s all about

I’ve been waiting for some guidance to come and lead me to where I’m going
I’ve been waiting for some guidance to come and lead me to where I’m going
Every time you go flashing by sing...
