Enjoy this recording of our homie Jacob Richter for Suicide Friends on august 15th this year.

----------------

Es bleibt spannend, watch out for more…
----------
Electric Indigo, DJ, composer, musician, has performed in 36 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her name stands for the intelligent and distinguished interpretation of techno and electronic music. Her dj sets are characterized by a wide variety with a clarity of vision, and a depth that only comes from a deep understanding of the music and the art of the DJ. As a composer and musician, she emphasizes the spatial-temporal placement of subtly textured sounds. She received the "outstanding artist award Musik 2012" in the field of electronic music and computer music and the national grant for composition 2013 from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture.

Currently, Electric Indigo works on her first solo album.
biography:
Richard West aka Mr.C was born in London in the late 60's. Mr.C then hooked up with Colin Faver & Evil Eddie Richards to became resident rapper at the legendary Camden Palace going on to MC for Colin Faver on the then illegal pirate radi station Kiss FM. Mr.C went into the studio to record his 1st house track with Eddie Richards as Myster-E which was released in August 1987. This inspired Mr.C to become a DJ to learn more about his beloved House & Techno music so in late '87 Richard took to the decks. Mr.C has since organized, promoted & been resident DJ at: Fantasy ('88), Base (Dungeons '89), Release (91), Harmony (92), Drop (93), Cyclone (94), Vapourspace (94 & 95), Flavour (The End 95 & 96), Subterrain (The End 95 - 2002), Superfreq (Worldwide 2002 - Present) & Super Disco Freq (LA 2010 - present).
The Shamen also won a highly coveted Ivor Novelo for Songwriters of the year UK in 1992. Richard's currently recording solo as Mr.C & is also doing collaborations as the Sycophant Slags with Francis Harris aka Adultnapper, as the Indigo Kidz with Affie Yusuf, with [a]pendics.shuffle & with Omid 16b & has recent releases on Poker Flat, Wagon Repair Records, Get Physical Records & Adjunct Audio.

Podcast 16 comes from HAWKINSON, a friend of ours and a regular dj at our club.
When Techno essentially would be a big tree with branches like Minimal or Electro style then Hawkinson would be the trunk of that tree. While others have jumped on the bandwagons that have come and gone, Hawkinson knew from the first day where he belonged - simply techno. His first inspirations came from the same sources as for most guys in the business too - Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, New Order, Depeche Mode and Front 242 or Nitzer Ebb. And he has remained true to his inspirations.
Hawkinson also shows a deep respect for the DJ culture. "DJing was and still is composition for me. I have always loved taking on new challenges - to take two vinyls in my hand and create something new.''
Since 2001, he has played at various clubs in Berlin. And with his releases he displays the outcome of staying true to his passion. He knows what the crowd wants, what they need, and he knows where he belongs: to the trunk of the techno tree.

Podcast number 15 comes from Kenneth Christiansen, who runs the echocord label and also the regular echocord label nights at our club.
Kenneth Christiansen’s interest in electronic music goes back to 1991, when he started dj’ing on a small scale. In 1996 he moved from the countryside of Denmark to Copenhagen and started working in a recordshop. As years went by the interest became even bigger and in 1999 he opened his own recordshop, Science Fiction. At the same time he organized parties such as Simplicity club, which became a huge success in the Copenhagen underground. For almost a year Kenneth and two of his friends managed to present great electronic music for a steadily increasing crowd of people.
In 2001 he decided to close the shop Science Fiction, for instead to work in another recordshop called Loud, where he worked untill 2004, responsible for the electonic music.
In 2002 Kenneth founded the recordlabel Echocord. So far he has released artists like Mikkel Metal, Fenin, Anders Ilar, Andreas Tilliander, Thomas Fehlmann, Substance, Vainqueur, Dub Tractor, Opiate, Dug Surgeon, Jan Jelinek, The Modernist and Michael Mayer. Echocord records is distributed via Kompakt in Cologne. In 2008 he started the sister label Echocord Colour.
In 1998 Kenneth also started to dj more and more. Stefan Betke aka Pole started to book Kenneth for “Scape showcases” in Europe at clubs such as “WMF” (Berlin), “Maria” (Berlin), “Nusonturm” (Frankfurt), “NBI” (Berlin), Sonar festival (Barcelona), Studie 672 (Cologne) and Spring Dance (Uttrecht).
In the end of 2004 he decided to quit working in the recordshop, and instead open up a new club called “Culture Box”. But CB is not only a club, its a venue where other organisers can make their own parties, showcases, visuals and other activities.
The club has been a huge success and artists such as John Tejada, Thomas Fehlmann, Superpitcher, Luciano, Isolée, Oliver Hacke, Daniel Meteo, Wighnomy Brothers, Barbara Morgenstern, Fenin, Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin,Chica Paula, Reinhard Voigt, Marcel Dettmann and many, many others have already visited the club.
At the moment Kenneth is, as the labelboss of Echocord, hosting showcases all over Europe with artists like Luke Hess, Mikkel Metal, Fluxion, Deadbeat and Onmutu Mechanicks on board.
Kenneth’s latest project is called Pattern Repeat. He is doing this with his friend Resoe who also runs the Baum label.

Lars Sandberg AKA Funk D'Void, is a DJ and producer who has been at the forefront of the global electronic music scene since the mid-90s. So we are happy to have him contribute to our podcast series with a live recording made at a Mad Musician label night in our club on march 1st, 2013.
Lars started Djing at around the tender age of 15, running two under-18 clubs himself – a perfect start to his career. Knowing his vocation to music from an early age after being brought up by his professional pianist mother, Lars never had any doubt as to where his future would lie.
House music changed his life, the early Chicago sound specifically, and hearing the certain sounds during his childhood stirred something inside him; the 808 drum machine used on Marvin Gaye's “Sexual Healing” secured his fascination with these electronic sounds – the turning point over to the Detroit techno sound was almost a spiritual moment as it forged his unique sound that would follow over the coming years – visceral, soulful and without compromise.
After a string of hits over the years (“Jack Me Off”, “Bad Coffee” “Emotional Content”) plus some killer remixes for the likes of Underworld, New Order and Kevin Saunderson, he is probably best known for the end-of-nighter 'Diabla' which bridged house and techno (and was flogged by everyone from Danny Howells to Sven Vath). And if you look carefully you’ll also spy the name ‘L. Sandberg’ in the liner notes of releases by deep house producer Francois Dubois, whose “Blood” and “I Try” were huge underground hits of 2006 and 2007 respectively. Collaborations with such luminaries as Phil Kieran and more recently Sian have produced stellar results - further galvanising his diversity in the techno arena and has led us to the somewhat overdue arrival of his own personal label, Outpost. Much in demand DJ and critically acclaimed producer, his Djing style is everything you expect a true music lover’s taste to be: he is comfortable and adept at moving any dancefloor, the proof being that he is one of the busiest Djs on the circuit today, and has been for the last decade.

A live one, not one that
has been salted. As we move towards the back of the room, we come upon a
fog bank. It‘s fine, like gauze, but it‘s there. As you approach it, the
hair on your sweaty forearm stands on end. The DJ booth has its own
microclimate, several dozen degrees colder than the dance floor. FRANK MARTINIQ is a frequent guest at our club and will be featured on our upcoming release, but he is also an international DJ, producer and sound design pioneer. His unique vision of electronic dance music, combined with his talent, dynamism and experimental projects have acted as a springboard, propelling him to the forefront of house and techno global club scenes.
It all started in 1991, Germany, and since then, Frank Martiniq has always been a reference point in international electronic music with releases on Boxer Recordings, Sender, Curle and Rotary Cocktail and touring the world with his energetic dj sets. In 2009 he was commissioned to work on a prestigious, experimental sound design project for the Max-Planck Institute. The futuristic project entitled “The Science Express” toured through 60 towns to international critical acclaim. So you see, Frank is not planning to limit himself!
As for his future, he is constantly reconfiguring his sound, getting ever more creative: releasing his deep techno direction on Stroboscopic Artefacts and Suicide Circus Records, playing shows internationally and is busy in the studio working on visionary sounds for his fifth studio album.

MATHIAS SCHAFFHÄUSER has contributed "Nuevo Romance" to the first release of our label. A stunning track, and funky as hell.
As you might know Mathias Schaffhäuser has been around in the techno, house and minimal scene since 1994. He definitely is what you'd call an old hand in djing and producing.

Purism sucks! That's his motto behind the decks. The quality of the music is what’s important, not sheer functionality and a perfect mix. That is: at times his sets can be rather varied from Ware-style music, nice + smooth neo-house and funky minimal to thumping techno. Check this mix and you'll know what we are talking about!

Past releases of Mathias appeared on WIR Recordings, Lebensfreude, on Persistencebit Rec., Resopal Red, Force Inc., Multicolor, Definitive Records (house sub-label of Plus-8), Blaou Sounds, Frisbee Tracks and many others. In 1997 he started his own record label WARE which released 89 EPs until now.

TRACKLIST:

Intro: Excerpts from “Loaded” by Primal Scream
01 Mathias Schaffhäuser - Nuevo Romance (Suicide Circus Rec. / Noice Rec.)
02 Marcel Knopf – Sacritool (Mo’s Ferry Prod.)
03 Alli Borem - Industry / DJ Kool Dek Remix (Root50 Music)
04 Prime Origin - Carry On (FormResonance)
05 Ziggy Kinder – Teenybopper / M. Schaffhäuser's Junikäfer Remix (Ware Rec.)

This set was recorded at Suicide Circus 2012-06-08.

FRANKLIN DE COSTA is a high quality player in the international scene and a regular one at the Suicide Circus. So it was obvious he had to contribute a mix to our series.
Check it our and let him declare his definition of house music, recorded live on the open air area of our club.
Franklin De Costa's first releases were way back in 1996 on his own label Fusion Records (w/ 303 Nation Member, Patrick Vauillaume). Under his Tichy moniker Franklin released various EPs on Frankfurt techno labels until the end of the 90s. His search for inspiration brought him to a very experimental production phase without the "4 to the floor“ preset. From this he developed his distinctive trademark sound with straight grooves and frisky sound design.
2012 will bring us a lot new music by Franklin De Costa. For the Tokyo based label Mule Musiq is an EP billed for spring 2012 feat 3 original De Costa tracks. His second EP for the infamous New York Pomoter ReSolute will mark their 4h Release. There will be a track featured on the various artists 12" on Argumento. A great upcoming quality label from Macedonia. Fellow artists on this ep will be Ryo Murakami who´s also a label mate from Curle Belgium and mighty Bearweasel from UK.
Also finished is a 2 Track ep for the fresh Berlin label Nsyde run by Richard Zepezauer. The label has earned a lot praise so far with releases by Daso and Kevin Reynolds.
For the ever growing Greta Cottage Workshop comes another vinyl release as follow up to his highly acclaimed limited 10" under the Mudkid moniker. Also an ep on the Vitalik Gold Series with an Anonym remix is planned for June / July 2012
Nobody knows how he manages to keep being curious into new sounds after such a history, but he definitely is.

Check out this house rocker from one of Berlin's biggest club heroes recorded live at our venue!

Woody is the original sonic funkateer whose life is completely focused on music and his very own definition of FUNK. He’s a genuine kind of a guy, needing nothing more than two turntables, a mixer and an audience to know he’s alive. For him DJing and making music is not just a job, it's his destiny. Rewind back to the mid-80's when Woody started off in Munich's graffiti and breakdance scene. Alr eady a superb breakdancer, he soon became an even better DJ.
Woody played his first gigs in Munich`s famous "Babalu Club". Thanks to his God-given talent and hard work, Woody was soon getting booked into the techno clubs of Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt. In 1992 Woody took the chance to become Resident DJ in Berlin’s best and most influential club concept "Planet", which later became the world-famous "E-Werk".
Woody's star rose to unbelievable heights as he completely controlled the crowd. His music brought this remarkable venue to life and his cross-pollenation style from deep pumping techno & smokin` house to electrofunk and several oldschool classics was a blueprint for numerous DJs who heard and saw Woody play. He rocked the house and laid the foundation for Berlin`s nightlife fame, playing a key role in the genesis of Berlin`s own club sound. Since then Woody has become one of Germany’s most respected DJs. Woody has travelled all over continental Europe (including the east), Scandinavia, USA, Central America, Israel, Asia like Japan and Thailand to spin in virtually every (good) club, showing off his unique track selection and brilliant DJ skills. Other remarkable highlights of Woody`s thrilling DJ career are his annual appearences at the Love Parade finale with over 1,5 Million people in Berlin. On his home patch, Woody always likes to run his own club nights where the guest program is decided by him, as well as supervising the visual aspect, which is an important element of the nightlife experience: perfect music and special visuals! His earlier residency in Berlin was his monthly “Klub Berlin”, where he already invited international guests. Actually he's regularly playing at the Watergate and organise his own Sunday Open Air After hour Party named Electronic Waves, where most respected DJs and Live Acts played so far. Like Ricardo Villalobos, Guido Schneider, Matt John, My My, Efdemin, Ben Klock, the Fumakilla Family and many more… Woody is also the man behind the extremely successful Fumakilla Label which he launched in 2000 after he finished the production of his first tracks. Its aim is to become a homebase for lots of upcoming producers and the definition of modern clubfunk. Due to the fact that his first ever remix (Woody vs. Kissogramm "If I had known this before") directly entered the German charts, he`s now one of the most sought after remixers in Germany. In 2002 he remixed the likes of Felix da Housecat and 2-Raumwohnung. His Tracks and Remixes played by key players like Carl Craig, Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos. His first album “Selected Works 2002-2006” released 2008 is deep and a good balance between old and new school. There you can find fresh and modern sounds but also a retrospection of his work. His production combines quality undergroud music with a strong international appeal and the potential to attract a bigger audience. You can hear the influences of Chicago Jack-House, Detroit Techno and his B-Boy definition of sound. In every single track you can trace Woody’s talent for minimal changes in the melody which catch just about every crowd. If you need to give it a name, file under FUMAKILLA FUNK.

Our second podcast features FRANK MULLER, an artist who regularly plays at our venue. As a DJ under his real name or as a live act under his alias BEROSHIMA. Check his set recorded at our venue on 18th Nov 2011.

Frank Muller a.k.a Beroshima has been a Pioneer of electronic music since the mid 1990's. His musical passion was ignited at the age of 13, when he created his first DJ set. Shortly after Frank played many early gigs in west Germany’s new wave scene. With the collapse of the Berlin wall he moved from Holland to Berlin, the „CPU“ of Techno. 2 Years later Beroshima was formed and later joined by Ulrich Schnauss in 1996. Beroshima started with a cutting edge acid flavored electronic sound and has constantly evolved as one of the finest acts in live techno. His other main imprint Mueller records was started in 1996 providing a platform for old and fresh protagonists of electric music.

The name Beroshima and especially Mueller Records has spread to the world, with sightings all over the planet from Europe to South America, Asia and everywhere in between. Beroshima is constantly exploring with a musical compass. Frank has dropped uncountable floor hits like "Deebeefunky" "We who are oppressed" and "electronic discussion". All of the top magazines feature his innovative productions.

Known as an expert DJ and producer, Frank Muller has been a resident DJ at Mayday and a frequent favorite at the WIRE Festival in Japan, in addition to his residency nights "WE LOVE NEON" in Berlin and constant global touring.

Beside his imprint as a Techno Dj and live act his production skills provided the platform for many other artists and genres. The result is his unique Beroshima style. One of his latest releases MOONRAKER was chosen as best House production in 2008 by a number of Magazines in northern Europe.

His latest Album was released in May / June 2011 in collaboration with the electronica Genius Ulrich Schnauss and has been sold out in 3 weeks. „Polyphonication“ is another electronic milestone by the "criminally underrated Beroshima" ( Mixmag ).

Currently Frank Muller is working on a few Trax with great Artists like Kirk Degiorgio, FunkDvoid, Tigerskin ... etc. which will be released on his latest output MAD MUSICIAN. Detroit Techno and Techhouse at its best.

Hello!

This is the beginning of our podcast series.
The podcast will feature artists which have played in our club. With this we want to give you the possibility to recap the greatest parties at our beloved Suicide Circus, to fix highlights for the future or basically to listen to good music.
The first mix comes from PIERRE. Since the mid 90s, Pierre is listed among the most popular techno DJs in Germany. He gained wide spread respect and attention as resident DJ at Aufschwung Ost, the legendary club in Kassel, which was renamed Stammheim later.

This set was recorded at Suicide Circus 2012-02-19.

about Pierre:

“If you still want a playground in the future, you should play tomorrow’s music today, but don’t completely disregard the past and the present, as few will be unable to keep up with you – and a party is no fun on your own.”

Short and to the point
Pierre, 29, often-booked DJ, producer, label owner, legend of “Aufschwung Ost”, “Stammheim” and “Hotel Reiss”, began to organise parties at the tender age of 16, originally in a quiet village. about Pierre:

“If you still want a playground in the future, you should play tomorrow’s music today, but don’t completely disregard the past and the present, as few will be unable to keep up with you – and a party is no fun on your own.”

Short and to the point
Pierre, 29, often-booked DJ, producer, label owner, legend of “Aufschwung Ost”, “Stammheim” and “Hotel Reiss”, began to organise parties at the tender age of 16, originally in a quiet village. Since he became twenty, he lost interest in public educational institutions and preferred to teach himself. Pierre has founded several companies, plagued his employees, earned and lost money, so he knows all about paying for experience.
