FB 003 'Gizmo' Written & Produced by SILKEN Mixes from General Midi and The Spoon Wizard .

Release number three from Functional Breaks features another West Country act, Exeter based SILKEN. Jon Dennis and Adrian Clarinda have been writing music as Tour De Force for the last 5 years recently starting their own trance label Transcend, remixing for Manga USA and contributing two track for the soundtrack for computer game Urban Kaos from Idos alongside A.D.F. Way Out West and Basement Jaxx. Adrian and Jon want SILKEN to be more than a studio outfit already working on a live show they intend to be ready to perform live shows to coincide with the release of their debut album in late 2000. Gizmo is the first track to be released from this breaks project that will also see them providing remixes for Functional Breaks. Gizmo is a fat funky breakbeat tune, which has already become a favourite of Hybrid, Hyper, Tayo, and Danny McMillan on CDR with the track getting a play on Danny's show on Kiss FM. The mixes come from Bristol's General Midi with some dirty bass lines and The Spoon Wizard again showing his skill for producing minimal but ever building breaks tunes FB 003 SILKEN 'Gizmo' Full Release 10/07/00

Silken - 'Gizmo' (Functional Breaks). A very 2001 breakbeat number, this, kind of like being driven into space in the front passenger seat of a futuristic Aston Martin with wings. Really REALLY good.

Silken Gizmo (Functional Breaks) Only their third release, yet already this West Country Label has got a good reputation. Silken are renegade trancers who've decided to hang up their fluro undies and join the funk flowers instead. All three mixes are strong with the original nestling up to reworkings by General Midi and Spoon Wizard. Fairly minimal beats are joined by soundtracky washes, tough riffs and even tougher basslines. Very Functional.

Silken - Gizmo (Functional Breaks) Big up the West Country Massive as silken become the latest artist to make an impression on the scene with this stunning little number for the Functional Breaks Stable. Functional Breaks are now on their third release (every one a winner) and ' Gizmo is likely to cause the biggest stir so far as Spoon Wizard and General Midi (not again!) take the controls and carry out admiral jobs on the remix tip. Another must have release.

Jockey Slut

Silken Gizmo (Functional Breaks) More West Country action, this time from Exeter-based Gizmo. Backed with a General Midi nip and tuck, the original mix relies heavily on a punchy tech-bass sequence and swirling effects, but the key to the track is its simplicity. Perfect for big systems.

Whats on Southwest

GIZMO - SILKEN ( MIXES ) functonal breaks 003 original mix : liked it the most - more in yer face with a fuck off kickdrum - definitely what ive been into lately - cool vocal snippet good peak time track to make the floor explode - playing it tommorrow at my bi monthly thursday nighter spoon wizard mix : a bit slow for me - more for the danny macmillans of the world - will be big in san fransisco for sure - very groovy - could be useful to seduce females with ? jk . warm up set material or loungy atmosphere track - potentially dangerous in l.a. or ny lounges ... general midi remix : not the typical general but still recognizable drum programming gives it away ... good builder / mover . nice transitional record to kick it up a notch or slow it down a bit . could be very dangerous at beats and bobz or cryonix . will probably get the most played of all the mixes on radio/clubs etc. he seems to be the new man like of nu school at the moment - i.e. silvio ecomo , issi noho , etc. good buy for all the punters - a little something for everyone ... 4 out of 5 ( original mix ) 3 out of 5 ( spoon wizard ) 3.5 out of 5 ( gen midi )

DJ Magazine

Silken also record under the Tour de force label on Trancend, here they are signed to the Functional Breaks Label - da bods behind Exeter Beatz & Bobz nights. Gizmo is a funky slice of breakeat, wit techno fuelled fills and breakdowns. The vibe is driving and relentless, a mash up on the dance floor.
