Check out this tasty new jam! I'm getting more and more comfortable with my new synth sounds in FL Studio (lots of Ogun and some SQ8L in this one), so I felt it would be fun to get back to my...uh, roots?...and write a headboppin' organ jam.

The idea of this one came from learning about the way an alternator charges a car battery. The battery gives a little juice to the alternator, which in turn generates a little back for the battery, and it's like a constant cycle of one recharging the other, which just felt like a feelgood jam to me. It made sense in my head when I came up with the pun, anyway...

Enjoy!
This song was made using the awesome "Zither" VST by Samulis, some free basic kick and snare sounds from Henry Homesweet's "Essential Chip Sounds" series, and a little 3x Osc in FL Studio for the moody bass. The ECS drums have been serving me well for the last year as I learn how to put decent songs together, but I think I really need to expand my range a lot more... (well maybe I would if I wasn't gone at my day job for nearly 12 stinkin' hours a day!).
This is a song about frustration, if nothing else. A desire to get back all the minutes I've wasted in the last ten years trying to survive in a capitalist wasteland by making enough money to exist instead of chasing my dreams in the first place...but enough about that, do you dig that funky bassline as much as I do?!
This is a song about butts. Yep. That's really all there is to it. This is the song that plays when you're walkin' down the road, minding your own business, and the buttcheeks of the person in front of you are moving perfectly to the beat of the music in your ears. True story, and it made me laugh. I hope you did too!
Another song not exactly inspired by any one particular thing, this idea came to me after listening to a bunch of retrowave music and trying to think of ways I could use the basic tracker program to emulate a more "complete" synthesizer sound, and the 1-2-3 effect seemed like a good fit stylistically, so I just rolled with it!

That said, I'm planning to switch to a new DAW soon, hopefully one with a more consistent instrument library. My sound could finally start evolving even more in the next few weeks...until then, keep enjoying these weird ass tunes!

This track gave me a hell of a time while I was composing it, because I'm still learning how chords and composition work together, and it kept going in wrong directions because there's so much more to manage with chords than just notes. I feel like I found a happy medium though, and this song (which started out as me recreating the bassline from Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose") turned into something more like I wanted it to be, like the feeling of venom coursing through someone's veins, on its way to corrode and corrupt their brain or something. Call me pleasantly surprised by how it turned out!

NEW ALBUM COMING MAY 12!!!

This song is really exciting for me cause it's my first time really experimenting with odd time signatures! This song is in 7/8 time and was literally inspired by a dumb pun I thought of when I said the name of a famous Canadian soft rock artist out loud. "Saline Neon" sounds like some kind of weird futuristic drug to me, or maybe it's what leaks out of the eyes of a crying cyborg. I dunno, I just think it's funny and cool!

Definitely going to play around with more odd time signatures in the future, but this was a good start!

This kooky little number is about a skeleton who can't seem to find his calling in life because he never knew his ancestors or what they were famous for, and he wishes they were still around so he could give them a piece of his mind...er, skull!

This song wouldn't exist without Reptile Palace Orchestra's "El Pescador", and I may or may not have stolen the main riff outright from them, but all the warbly fiddle tunes, the rhythm section, and the weird-ass jaw harp solo is my composition. Jaw harp sound effects are from Musicradar's "Cartoon Caper" collection!

I'm not entirely sure how to explain this song, as when I originally started composing it, it was supposed to sound vaguely like Limahl's synthpop-y intro song for the classic movie "The Neverending Story", but the more I started playing around, the more I liked the heavier sound I'd created, and I let it sit there in my unfinished pile for a month or two before I figured out how to tease an actual song out of it. The "sitar"-ish sound in this one is actually an electric piano sample ("Jazz Chorus" on the Yamaha EX5), but that's what really sells the whole song for me. (It reminds me of a song from the Nausicaa soundtrack called "Ohmu"!)

Anyway, this song is dedicated to Kirby, and yes I mean THAT Kirby!

So this song was supposed to be like some kind of Milli Vanilli inspired 90s pop piece, but while making the beat and the bass part, I got this eerie Nine Inch Nails kinda vibe going, so I decided it's going to be both! An unholy fusion of pop and anti-pop, coupled with my new appreciation for playing like, actual chords and stuff. I like how it turned out!

Also, you can sit here and keep trying to explain all the Very Scientific Reasoning behind why your robot has tiddies, but I'd respect you a hell of a lot more if you just up and told me it has tiddies cause you think the robot is hot and wanted to give it some tiddies.

I knew right from the start what kind of song it would be; an aggressive, badass jazz swinger that never stopped moving, even for a second. The voice clip at the beginning is Eliza from Skullgirls (the original inspiration for the song), and I was actually going to use more clips here and there, but they felt distracting and didn't really serve any other purpose, so I left them out. What I learned from this song was: if it doesn't sound right, add more layers to your brass. Even if you've already got like 5 layers, add more. Brass DEMANDS layers!

I wanted it to go back and forth between a somber groove and a hard-hitting rock chorus, a sort of "things are looking grim, but I'm still here, and I'm still fighting" attitude. The somber intro was inspired by the main riff from an Alan Parsons song called "Pipeline"!</googleplay:description>

I had a basic beat and bassline set up, then I added some lighter, softer sounds (good old Octaver from the Korg Poly 800), and just kept adding layers until it felt sufficiently funky but with a little bit of curious thrown in there for good measure!

Kinda sounds like a mix between a cave exploration song and a character stats menu song to me, so I figured the title should serve as a handy reminder that you should always remember to equip the correct panties before venturing out into parts unknown!

But in the end, once I decided to focus on the music box/kalimba sound above all else, everything finally clicked into place and I came out with this excellent retrowave piece, written to accompany an android lady riding on a motorcycle through space, en route to apprehend yet another reported criminal on some ancient moon colony or whatever!
This has to be the most intense song I've ever composed. It's certainly got the biggest sound, if nothing else. Musically, it borrows heavily from a lesser-known Boston (yes THAT Boston) song called "Corporate America", which I've repurposed and redefined as a tribute to the greatest superhero our world has ever known, Captain Planet!

Also, yes, climate change is a real thing that's happening because of mass Manufacturing and Production of Things, and disregard for the environment that sustains human life. Here's a simple list of things you, an everyday citizen, can do to lessen the impact of climate change when our governments and our corporations won't:

1) Ride the bus, bike, or walk when you can!
2) Drop paper, plastic, and aluminum in a recycling bin instead of a garbage can!
3) Ask to get your bills delivered "paperless" and avoid printing things where you can!
4) Join a local volunteer group to plant trees or pick up trash in public parks!
5) If you're over 18, vote out any government official who opposes the study of climate change (HINT: a lot of them tend to be Republicans)!
