<itunes:summary>Soul Academy is the house music project of Kieron James – drummer with indie pop band ‘The Emotionals’ (Native Records) in a former life. In 2008 – after downloading a copy of the BeatMaker App for his iPhone(!), Kieron bought a copy of Cubase and turned his attention to programming and production, initially with an eclectic mix of electronic / experimental music, but over the last twelve months shifting his focus exclusively to house music – with an emphasis on deep and tech house.
His debut single, ‘Is It Maybe’ dropped in December 2014 and was the realisation of an ambition to release with UM Records after first hearing Richie Hartness’ Best of 2013 mixes. This was followed up swiftly with original tracks and remixes on labels including Haute Musique, Deep Clicks, La Pitti Records and Ready Mix Records. The first half of 2015 also saw Kieron’s first venture into DJing with the launch of his live Coffee + Cake mix every Monday on Mixlr, his Deeper show on Mixcloud and iTunes podcast and guest mixes for Deep Essence, Deep Clicks, Elektrik Dreams EDM Underground Showcase, Mole Music, Pure House Music Podcast and the Sounds Collective.
Available now are Soul Academy original tracks featuring remixes by (or for) BiG AL, Deepdoon, Deephope, G-Spice, Phil Maher, Jero Nougues, Phasen, Stefan S and Charlie Synphonia. Out in the next few weeks you can expect Soul Academy tracks remixed by (or for) Tim Andresen, Yigit Atilla, Deephope, Igor Gonya, Harold Heath, Phil Maher, Moti Bros, Jero Nougues, Spennu, Tony S and Moe Turk & Joe Mitri.
Another HUGE deal for Kieron this year has been working with Rachel Wallace, vocalist with the Stereo MCs – a band whose records he has been playing for the past twenty five years. In a collaboration with his good friend Phil Maher – and the talent behind the sensational summer remix of Can’t Control The Way I Feel – you can also expect stunning remixes of ‘Round & Round’ by Harold Heath and Tim Andresen.

Cutting a deep path through Adrian Oblanca, Cristian Merino and Flassback's "Whimsical Women" Deeper 005 includes new tunes from San Xero and Mr. V (whose "Jus' Dance" I span in Deeper 004), Inner Rebels & Moe Turk, The Carry Nation remix of Shaun J. As hot off the press as they come is Nick Mabon's (aka Lou Der) brand new track "The Party" from the amazing EP of the same name featuring Jill Kanter (with stunning remixes from Alexander Richter, Max Volkholz and JFunc).
OUT MONDAY 25th May as a Beatport Exclusive, Haute Musique is excited to welcome England's super talented Soul Academy who delivers the label's 16th release and debuts on the label with his latest single "Give It".

Deep, soulful and full of warmth, the Original mix is a tightly produced groover which blends retro synth sounds and jazzy sax with a vocal sample written and recorded especially for the track.

BiG AL strips things back, slices the vocals and replaces the sax melody with keys for his Rub a Dub mix. The result is moody, dark and rhythmic with a hypnotic bass line.

Deephope and Jero Nougues also take inspiration from the vocal "...what it needs is a solid base (bass)" - and neither fall short! Deephope's mix is a beautifully pulsing dance floor track punctuated with 80's toms and some gorgeous synth work.

Jero Nougues closes the release by delivering the quality production, solid arrangement and all round polish you'd expect from a Nougues remix. His use of the sax sample with sweeping pads and a beautifully bouncing bass line is joyful.
