We’ve been craving the excitement of the disco, where inhibitions are tossed aside, outfits shine, and hips shimmy from side to side. We’re hoping to bring the disco spirit to your living room, with tunes provided by some of the most soulful dj’s around, and a virtual “club” where new friends from across the world can virtually boogie and see each others best disco threads!

Your commitment to the cause will also serve as a fundraiser for two very special causes helping nightlife workers affected by the current crisis - the U Street Music Hall Employee Relief Fund, and the Dontstopthe.dance Emergency Fund. Money raised during this event will be split evenly between the two relief funds.

U Street Music Hall is the storied, legendary hub of the DC music scene, hosting acts such as Black Coffee, Cerrone, Rufus Du Sol, and more. The virus has put the clubs status in jeopardy, and its owner, Will Eastman, will be laying down a fresh and funky set while we encourage people to donate to provide assistance to U Hall's employees while the club is unable to operate.

Dontstopthe.dance is a directory of DJs affected by the public health crisis that people can support via their Patreon accounts or peer-to-peer payment apps (e.g. Venmo) in exchange for exclusive DJ mixes. They’ve set up an emergency fund for their dj’s, which are primarily folks who have been traditionally marginalized as well as folks who have increased or precarious medical needs at this moment.

I was very happy to have the opportunity to play for 4 hours this night. I made sure all systems were go so I could play 'til close. I feel a lot better about playing hours on end to really work into the groove and be able to understand the people in the room. This allows me to then play more specifically to my audience, which I think is the most important thing one can do as a DJ. This set had a bit of a tinge of Halloween, but was mostly fed and directed by the energy in the air. I'm in full agreement with Seth Troxler, as he says in this interview with Annie Mac:

Four mixes out in seven days! Big Beat Beginnings was recorded just one week after my first mix, and must have been waiting in my brain for as long as many of these tracks had been out. For this mix, I wanted to highlight some of the tracks that were influential to my early interest in Electronic music. Growing up I was like a sponge for Dance Music, sucking it up from the few places I could find it - I had an older sister who was a raver and gave me a few tunes, Movie Soundtracks, TV Commercials, EA Video Game Soundtracks, a total of two friends who shared the interest in Country-Ass rural Delaware... This is an homage to some of those early Big Beat tracks that started the dryer spinning in the first place.

May 2011 is when I started releasing mixes as Sneakers in the Dryer. Prior to that, I recorded and posted about 15 mixes as "DJ Erock," a nickname I had been using since early high school - well before I understood what a DJ even did, I just knew I was into dance music. By 2009, when I first got a pair of turntables, I knew enough to know what a good DJ set should sound like and what it shouldn't. The DJ Erock mixes are probably closer to not good than they are good. As my hero, James Murphy says about DJing, "We want to take you on a journey" I released the mixes I recorded as DJ Erock as part of that journey - they're not technically perfect, they're not mind blowingly great, and they were never intended to be the final product of a DJ persona who would be seeking gigs. I just wanted to be transparent and share music along my development. I'm uploading these mixes all to SoundCloud to have them archived for listening. Hopefully someone will enjoy, or at least take inspiration from these!

I felt like thumping some bass kicks this day apparently. The little old lady who lived next door to me at the time used to come over to ask me to turn it down sometimes. She said the volume wasn't really the problem, but her walls would be vibrating from the bass... I guess I should have learned about isolation pads for my speakers earlier... This mix moves through a lot of my earliest discovers upon entering the dance music scene in person. Ghostland, MSTRKRFT, & Soulwax were all random discoveries I happened upon at the first two music festivals I ever went to. The Chemical Brothers have been a long time favorite. Then there are some of these artists that I don't even remember knowing about... Ha!


May 2011 is when I started releasing mixes as Sneakers in the Dryer. Prior to that, I recorded and posted about 15 mixes as "DJ Erock," a nickname I had been using since early high school - well before I understood what a DJ even did, I just knew I was into dance music. By 2009, when I first got a pair of turntables, I knew enough to know what a good DJ set should sound like and what it shouldn't. The DJ Erock mixes are probably closer to not good than they are good. As my hero, James Murphy says about DJing, "We want to take you on a journey." I released the mixes I recorded as DJ Erock as part of that journey - they're not technically perfect, they're not mind blowingly great, and they were never intended to be the final product of a DJ persona who would be seeking gigs. I just wanted to be transparent and share music along my development. I'm uploading these mixes all to Soundcloud to have them archived for listening. Hopefully someone will enjoy, or at least take inspiration from these!

I don't think "Electro-Hop" is a real genre, or that anyone else necessarily refers to this sound with that term, but that is what it has always been in my head. Heard more in the Jamtronica / Festival scene than the Rave Warehouse, I was digging what these artists were putting down nonetheless. This is about as close as I could ever come to enjoying anything resembling brostep.

Oh man oh man... Electro House. When I moved to Baltimore in 2008, and finally had access to raves, the first new sound I experienced that pounded the crap out of me was Electro House. I was never much into punk or metal or 'hard' music as a teen - I was never much for angst or rage. But Electro House was a new energy like I never experienced before, it was RageJoy. It thumped so hard and aggressive that all I could do was stomp and smile. There were plenty of excellent practitioners of the sound coming through Baltimore, we'll get into more of them later - this mix is devoted to my two favorites. The first time I saw Deadmau5 was at Virgin Mobile Festival in 2008, where he played a 3:30 PM set... no where near headliner status. I saw his stock rise over a few years first hand. He started playing bigger venues every time he came to the area, and more and more one couldn't go to a rave without everyone dropping Deadmau5 tracks which always set the floor on fire. Wolfgang Gartner stormed onto the Electro House scene a few years after Deadmau5 and immediately smashed it all to bits. These two put me through the ringer a lot of times, so I decided to make a mix featuring them b2b.

Oh man oh man... Electro House. When I moved to Baltimore in 2008, and finally had access to raves, the first new sound I experienced that pounded the crap out of me was Electro House. I was never much into punk or metal or 'hard' music as a teen - I was never much for angst or rage. But Electro House was a new energy like I never experienced before, it was RageJoy. It thumped so hard and aggressive that all I could do was stomp and smile. There were plenty of excellent practitioners of the sound coming through Baltimore, we'll get into more of them later - this mix is devoted to my two favorites. The first time I saw Deadmau5 was at Virgin Mobile Festival in 2008, where he played a 3:30 PM set... no where near headliner status. I saw his stock rise over a few years first hand. He started playing bigger venues every time he came to the area, and more and more one couldn't go to a rave without everyone dropping Deadmau5 tracks which always set the floor on fire. Wolfgang Gartner stormed onto the Electro House scene a few years after Deadmau5 and immediately smashed it all to bits. These two put me through the ringer a lot of times, so I decided to make a mix featuring them b2b.

May 2011 is when I started releasing mixes as Sneakers in the Dryer. Prior to that, I recorded and posted about 15 mixes as "DJ Erock," a nickname I had been using since early high school - well before I understood what a DJ even did, I just knew I was into dance music. By 2009, when I first got a pair of turntables, I knew enough to know what a good DJ set should sound like and what it shouldn't. The DJ Erock mixes are probably closer to not good than they are good. As my hero, James Murphy says about DJing, "We want to take you on a journey" I released the mixes I recorded as DJ Erock as part of that journey - they're not technically perfect, they're not mind blowingly great, and they were never intended to be the final product of a DJ persona who would be seeking gigs. I just wanted to be transparent and share music a long my development. I'm uploading these mixes all to Soundcloud to have them archived for listening. Hopefully someone will enjoy, or at least take inspiration from these!

Prior to that, I recorded and posted about 15 mixes as "DJ Erock," a nickname I had been using since early high school - well before I understood what a DJ even did, I just knew I was into dance music. By 2009, when I first got a pair of turntables, I knew enough to know what a good DJ set should sound like and what it shouldn't. The DJ Erock mixes are probably closer to not good than they are good. As my hero, James Murphy says about DJing, "We want to take you on a journey" I released the mixes I recorded as DJ Erock as part of that journey - they're not technically perfect, they're not mind blowingly great, and they were never intended to be the final product of a DJ persona who would be seeking gigs. I just wanted to be transparent and share music a long my development. I'm uploading these mixes all to Soundcloud to have them archived for listening. Hopefully someone will enjoy, or at least take inspiration from these!
