Stabat Mater has been set to music dozens of times. This setting is by Pergolesi, the Italian Baroque composer who sadly died of tuberculosis before his 26th birthday. We will never know what he might have accomplished, and when we hear this beautiful Stabat Mater, we can't help but wonder. This piece features soprano and counter-tenor soloists, played by me on the Akai EWI USB using Wallander oboe and clarinet. The strings and harpsichord were rendered by Note Performer in Sibelius. The harmony and counterpoint between the two voices is amazing to me for its stark simplicity, beauty, and mystery.
