In occasione della mia partecipazione ad uno degli incontri della Mostra "Night Fever - Designing Club Culture 1960 - Today" al Centro Pecci di Prato ,curati da Andrea Mi, ho selezionato 48 dischi dalla mia collezione house e techno fine '80 - primi '90 elaborando una playlist evocativa dei miei ricordi di quegli anni magici. Non è stato facile concentrare tutto in 3 ore. Ho immaginato una serata collocandola nel periodo che va dal 1987 al 1993. In questa Playlist c'è quello che ho suonato nei club e ai Rave durante il mio periodo romano, prima di trasferirmi a Firenze per suonare al Tenax. Ogni disco che ho scelto è legato a un ricordo. Sono dischi che ho suonato e anche ballato .... Roma, Chicago, New York, Detroit unite in un unico Mix , dal sound dei club newyorkesi più underground all' house di Chicago e alla Hi Tech Soul di Detroit . Roma era una città che stava esplodendo in quegli anni . Ci siamo divertiti tanto, ignari allora di aver vissuto un periodo che ad oggi rimane indimenticabile.

Le sue radici sono indiscutibilmente nella musica afroamericana. Originale ed eclettica ha sempre visto con poca simpatia le limitazioni di genere. Appartiene a quella generazione di DJ romani che alla metà degli anni 80, dopo essere cresciuti ascoltando funk e disco, furono influenzati dalla scena hip hop proveniente dagli USA e che, a Roma, trovò un’ importante corrispondenza: era l’epoca della Zulu Nation Italiana, promossa da Luca De Gennaro, e del DMC con le gare di scratch e cutting. Le sonorità electro e funk tipiche dell’ hip hop old school, poco tempo dopo , per molti di quei DJ lei compresa, confluiscono nella techno di Detroit, l’house di Chicago e l’acid house di Londra.
Da sempre attivista della club culture, ha visto nascere ed ha partecipato in prima persona a tutti i movimenti: da quello house seminale e techno-rave, alle declinazioni progressive, alle espressioni
della musica elettronica contemporanea in tutte le sue infinite varianti.
Le avventure durante la “golden age” degli anni ’90 includono importanti esperienze radiofoniche, come quella a Radio Centro Suono (emittente ufficiale del movimento house e techno a Roma) e a Radio Italia Network (colonna sonora portante della scena clubbing italiana per tutto quel periodo);
ma soprattutto la sua affermazione a livello nazionale come DJ: dalla residenza al Tenax di Firenze e al Musikò (Ex Movida) di Jesolo, all’assidua presenza in consolle per molti tra i più importanti club
ed eventi di quell’epoca indimenticabile.
Simona Faraone è considerata una dei migliori DJ del nostro Paese, un’artista che non è mai scesa a compromessi con un profilo di altissimo livello che ha raggiunto una maturità espressiva di grande pregio: propone selezioni raffinatissime, in un viaggio nel cuore della techno e della house, attingendo a perle old-school, ispirazioni jazz, a un largo spettro di suggestioni sonore che tocchino nel profondo il suo gusto ricercato, il tutto unito magicamente a produzioni contemporanee d’eccellenza.
