Station H - Live from Brighton Music Conference 2019

From Hastings at the very southern tip of England: Station H is a freewheeling House Music podcast hosted by 5 Magazine’s Will Sumsuch with special guests in conversation, and zero editing.
For this year’s annual Station H catchup at the Brighton Music Conference (BMC), Will Sumsuch and Richard Earnshaw are joined by fellow 5 Mag author Harold Heath, Massi Deeka (Strictly Underground Music) and music industry veteran and Brighton DJ Nick Titchener.
After finding a corner in a somewhat noisy ante-room off the main conference drag (with staff coming and going throughout), the crew discuss Richard Earnshaw’s debut appearance on a BMC panel, the distance between appearance and reality in the music business, and how holding in a poop, might just be the key to playing a truly great DJ set.
Other topics skimmed over include:
As creators and curators, are we now at war with the algorithm?
Why are we still talking about a lack of diversity in electronic music? What should be done, and who should do it?
The incredible statistic that the week following Record Store Day 2019 was the highest selling week for vinyl since 1991. Does that statistic tell the whole story?

The trio discuss their impression of this year's event as the conference continues to develop, as well as tackling the issue of mental health in the music industry; a subject which hung heavy over the entire event due to the recent news of Avicii's suicide.
All three had been profoundly moved by the previous night's screening of a poignant documentary called "Why We DJ - Slaves To The Rhythm": youtube.com/watch?v=mFmfOSt2uCE

Station H Podcast Episode 1 - with Kiko Navarro, Richard Earnshaw & Lee Bright

Manning a remote musical outpost nestled between white cliffs & fierce seas on the very southern tip of England, our field agent Sumsuch has begun building up a covert network of like-minded DJs, producers and label owners.
Allied by a resistance to the corporate structure which ever-more forcefully imposes itself upon our culture, the group began holding secret meetings. The conversations ranged from music production and industry topics right through to cookery and family life, often providing inspiration for articles and features for 5 Mag.
Presented in raw, unedited form, this series of round-table discussions lifts the curtain on House Music in Europe like never before, providing a real insight into life in this cut-throat, wonderful and at times surreal industry in 2017.
Perfect listening for long journeys or bouts of insomnia, this first, two part episode sees Sumsuch set up shop in an East London hotel room for a beer-fueled chat with former 5 Mag cover stars Richard Earnshaw & Kiko Navarro, as well as BBE Music's Lee Bright. Richard gives essential advice on whitebait (small, deep fried fish), Kiko gives has opinion on the Dance Music community's reaction to the death of Robert Miles, and Lee Bright on what makes him decide to sign a record.

<itunes:summary>Manning a remote musical outpost nestled between white cliffs & fierce seas on the very southern tip of England, our field agent Sumsuch has begun building up a covert network of like-minded DJs, producers and label owners.
The second episode of Station H is also the concluding segment of Sumsuch's conversation with Richard Earnshaw & Kiko Navarro, plus BBE Music's Lee Bright.
