Sky vistas merge with the land,
In the translucent greenbrier shoots of spring,
In the soft metallic glint of still ponds,
In the green galaxies of dandelions pressing through
dark matter of earth,
In the tears of dew trickling in silent crystal drops,
In the facial windows of mind-looking creatures,
In the hovering fogs of hot humid nights,
In the star-like blooming flowers in rainbowed clusters,
In the twisting swirl of leaves swiftly spiraling,
In the snowy billowed seeds of cottonwood scattering
in cloud-like drifts,
In the scale-like cirrus arrangements of shells on
the shoreline,
In the wind-like whistling song of the starling perched,
In the golden yellow flashing light of fireflies,
In the vast panoramic corridors of consciousness,
Sky vistas, land vistas, mind vistas,
Merging at the crossroads of this moment.

MOTHER NATURE
The morning's stillness is snapped
The doe stops grazing
& facing the direction
the sound came from
snaps to attention
Ears up eyes piercing
as a coyote steps into the open
The doe snorts
a few times then charges
The Coyote turns on the speed
looking back almost longingly
for a moment
just before entering the woods
Only a mountain lion
or a black bear
would do anything
but clear out
when she's like this.
Something about a fawn
gives a doe
a special supply of fearlessness

there's a dark field where the wind blows constantly
There's a sun, but the sun is dim, weak.
There's no life - except - a little creature crawls through the fields

nobody can hear
it's calling out, please! can you hear me? how did i get here!
it's come from somewhere else.
how did you get here, little thing?
what do you want here?
i watch you, as the sky,
the empty air, no breath.
no life.
but you.

Cove/Mallard
Yesterday these forests were crimson pink
through the smoke of summer fires
(as if the very air were bleeding here);
today i stand soaking wet
looking thru rain-smeared glasses
sweaty from dancing with thunder;
Drumming tumbles with guitar, banjo & oboe
between Grand fir, bear grass
& sweet purpling huckleberries.
The tapping of the rain
comforts me. Reminds me of earlier,
down the hill where they're cutting
when i wrapped my arms halfway 'round
a doomed grandmother pine at dawn
--and, crying, i prayed for her deliverance.
