Episode 7 of the Cookie-Dough podcast with Ste & Terser
Part 1 – Eclectic / Alternative
We get things rolling with Joe Cocker’s heavily sampled track ‘Woman to Woman’, which has featured on various 80s and 90s hip hop tracks and in Grand Theft Auto. This powerful bass driven funk / blues track sets the scene as we groove through the next two tracks ‘Love (Your Pain Goes Deep – Apple Scruffs Edit)’ by Frankie Beverly and a cover of the Bill Withers classic by Madelaine ‘Who is She and What is She to You’. We finish the section in style with the sublime jazz infused track ‘Day Like This’ by legendary Detroit producer Theo Parrish and the Master Drummer of Afrobeat Tony Allen.
This Afrobeat inspired track leaves a rhythmic percussive echo that can be felt in section 2, as we mix and serve up beats and rhythms in 16 bar measures. With flavours from Heswall, the Wirral to Long Island, New York, we will have you foot tapping, head nodding and reminiscing all at the same time as we spin classic hip-hop from De La Soul and Jazzy Jeff along with Henry Greenwood’s re-work of ‘Buffalo Stance’ by Neneh Cherry.
Section 3 is a jamboree of sounds, as we pick up the pace with the deep and raw funk of Preston Love’s ‘Cissy Popcorn’, moodily boogieing our way through to some shifted snares and breakbeats, as we end the eclectic half of the show with Tom & Jerry’s (4Hero to some of our younger listeners) jungle banger ‘Maximum Style’ and Calibre’s quality liquid funk rework of ‘Refusal’ by Zero T.
Part 2 – House Mix
The house section kicks off with the slowed down and soulful beat-down swagger of ‘More of those Moments’ by Canadian producer The Mole. We quickly pick the tempo up with the chugging beat and stabbing horns of ‘Forever in Their Debt’ by The Revenge followed by the aptly named ‘Boompty Boomp Theme’ by Mr. Derrick L Carter.
Section 2 of the house mix proceeds with the soulful house groover by Norma Jean Bell ‘I’m the Baddest Bitch’ (Moodymann remix) which of course samples the sublime 1978 track ‘Sweet Tears’ by Roy Ayers…Ooooft! Following that things are brought up-to date with the latest release from the house label of the moment Local Talk with the Candle Coast EP by Crackazat. And wrapping the section up is some deep and bouncy house with Kris Wadsworth’s interpretation of ‘Ruby Likes Dubstep’ by Scottish producer HiRO.
We take you back to 1987 in Section 3 with the legendary Trax Records Chicago house anthem ‘Baby Wants to Ride’ by the ‘Godfather of House’ Frankie Knuckles. Following that we slip in some filth from the brand new eagerly awaited self-named Moodymann album ‘Kenny Dixon Jnr’. As always we finish the show on a ‘Cookie-Dough Classic’ and this time we go back to Chicago, 1986 with the house music classic ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ by Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk feat. Daryl Pandy.

Part 1 – Eclectic / Alternative
We kick things off with ‘Waiting for the Man’ by the late great Lou Reed who sadly passed away last month. We take things up a notch with the Whiskey Baron’s edit of ‘Opposite People’ by the Godfather of Afrobeat Mr. Fela Kuti followed by the weird and twisted electronic afro sounds of ‘New Track’ by Francis Bebey. Wrapping the section off with a liquid funk banger we slip in ‘If We Ever’ and that is taken from High Contrast’s 2007 album ‘Tough Guys Don’t Dance’.
Section 2 is an 80s edit-fest starting with Henry Greenwood’s edit of the New Jack Swing classic ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ by Bobby Brown. This is followed by the heavy stomping Electro-Boogie beat and infectious vocals of Tony John’s re-rub of ‘Try it Out’ by Canadian Disco legend Ginno Soccio and rounding section 2 off we have an exclusive from Late Nite Tuff Guy’s with his edit of the 1983 track ‘I’m Only Shootin’ Love’ by Dutch band the Time Bandits.
The smooth, deep and soulful hip-hop sounds of ‘UMI Says’ by Brooklyn’s Mos Def take you in the final section of the alternative mix. Crossing ‘the Pond’ but keeping it hip-hop we supply a masterclass in the art of rhyme with ‘Slicker than Average’ by Manchester 9 piece The Mouse Outfit. Wrapping things up we take you to the dancehalls of Jamaica with ‘Bandelero’ by Pinchers and ‘Interface’ by the ‘Dub-Master’ himself Prince Jammy.
Part 2 – House Mix
The house section gets going with two ‘beat down’ joints from producers of the moment, Melbourne Deepcast head honcho Andy Hart and German producer Max Graef. The warm chords and bumping beats of ‘Dem Young Jabronis’ sets the scene and ass shaking fidgety grooves ‘Jungle’ keeps things rolling along nicely. The section finishes off some smooth deep house from Japanese producer Kez YM with a track called ‘Late Night Remedy’.
Section 2 of the house mix keeps things deep with the Quintessentials’ release ‘On Your Mind’ by Italian producer Nicholas. This is followed by some sleazy beats from Chicago legend Cajmere with ‘Let’s Dance’ and a UK garage tinged track ‘What You Waitin’ For’ (Scott Diaz Onwards Dub) by Incognito vocalist Tony Momrelle.
The third and final section of the house mix takes the tempo up a notch with the disco house sounds of ‘So Tight’ by DJ Fudge & Kiko Navarro. Following this we slip in the melodic ‘Dancing with your Heart’ by Huxley & Daniel Solar. And as always we finish the show with a ‘Cookie-Dough Classic’ and this time it’s the sublime Frankie Knuckles mix of ‘The Pressure’ by Sounds of Blackness. Oooft!

We have tried to make a mini version of one of our Radio Show Podcasts.
For the first half of the mix we dig deep into our collections and play some of the records that have influenced us over the years covering a number of genres from a number of eras.
For the second half of the show we dust off the head-phones and go into the mix serving up some of our favorite house records old and new.
We hope you enjoy the ride.
