The fool - 7

Juice on wax - 7" vinyl -
Two juicy edits for thirsty dancefloors! Every side is a sure shot: on the A side The fool is a stomping disco funk banger and Loopita a latin funk break that every bboy will love!
☆☆☆☆☆ It’s sureshot booty double-header time from Voodoocuts as our man brings his Juice series to format-of-the-minute, seven inch vinyl, with his first Juice On Wax drop. Step forward a pumping funky disco edit of Etta James’ 70s funk period number Only A Fool that, frankly, only a fool would ignore. Still, what to put on the B-side? It better be something big. Ah yes – Loopita – that’ll do a nicely, a windmilling b-boy breaks edit of Nico Gomez’ giant latin-psych cut Lupita that not only manages to take things in a different direction to Bronx Dogs’ Mambo Roc but be equally dope.
(Monkeyboxing.com)
The 7" is fiiiire! Defitenly one for my DJ-bag. Lookin' forward to drop this gem!
(Soulbrigada – Matasuna Records)
The masterful remixer/re-editor and consistently excellent Voodoocuts over in Berlin has a new 45 coming early May, and boy oh boy it's a good one! The A side features a pumping disco-funk banger with a chunky 4-4 kick drum and Etta James belting out the vocal, pure class! The flip sees the classic 'Lupita' by Nico Gomez become 'Loopita', a BBoy monster that will ignite any dancefloor, just check the preview below. Big up Voodoocuts, excellent work sir!

I love it as always!

Better still, go large with a mate who is himself going large with another funk edit. And if you’re going large with a funk edit it’s probably best to pick a track where the original is either an obscure gem or a lesser known classic so that you’re audience aren’t all “meh, another one of that one” when they hear it. Better still, how about you do an edit of an obscure gem and get your mate to edit a lesser known classic? As luck would have it, that’s precisely what Voodoocuts and Jayl Funk have done for Honkey Phonk 7. The former nabs Zebra’s uptempo obscurity Simple Song (not, apparently, anything to do with the Sly & The Family Stone song of the same name) and applies Jurassic 5′s In The House ‘pella to create funky, disco-rap crack. The latter helps himself to Earth, Wind & Fire’s version of Dirty and delivers a slightly more hypnotic affair but no less crowd-pleasing." *****

"There's funk and then there's Phonk. This here EP is most certainly the latter, with Honkey Phonk deliver two raucous slices of delirious party-fuelled phonk. "Party People" pairs good time brass, bass and beats with some old skool hip hop MCing. "Dirty" is a low-slung joint with serious Stevie Wonder vibes."

James Brown gets a going over on "Voodoosexmachine", a flute-laden re-cut of the Godfather of Funk's best-known tune. Another familiar favourite - check the snaking sax line, as sampled by The 45 King on B-Boy classic "The 900 Number" - is given a dancefloor touch-up on "Blow Ya Woopie", while "Get Up Brother" turns a cover version of Bob Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up" into a deep, bassy, fluid house jam. Finally, there's more bumpin' rare funk business on the ludicrously bottom-heavy "Stay Excited".
