Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records.
For this episode we have invited DJ, Producer and edit man Dave Gerrard to put together a mix of records that have influenced him over the years!
This is one for the house heads.
Nice one Dave!
A few words from Dave...
Nostalgia for me is a powerful emotion triggered, on occasion by music. My track choices are for this reason. Hearing these tracks fire up memories ranging from being in the back of a car, a night at the Hacienda or maybe a warehouse party in Blackburn. Upon hearing the track it’s as if I’m teleported back in time to that moment. This music is from my past, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been around to experience the birth of Chicago and Acid house, enabling me to travel the length and breadth of the UK, experiencing different clubs, music and above all the excitement that everyone was feeling witnessing how this new music was changing things. So here it is, my mix, a tricky thing to put together because, at the time most of these tracks were made, the term DJ friendly wasn’t a term widely used. Lots of early house a couple and I had to include one of my very first edits also. This is some of the music that made me.
Track List

Mr Fingers-Can U Feel It.
Adonis-No Way Back (Greg Wilson Edit)
Orbital-Chime
Joe Smooth-Promised Land
Marshall Jefferson-Move Your Body
South Street Player-[Who] Keeps Changing Your Mind
A Guy Called Gerald-Voodoo Ray (A Guy Called Gerrard Edit)
Soft House Company-What U Need
The Todd Terry Project-Weekend
Alison Limerick-Where Love Lives
FPI Project-Rich In Paradise
Joe Smooth-It’s Alright

Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records.
For this episode we have invited DJ, edit man and disco connoisseur Chuggin Edits to spin some of the records that have influenced him over the years.
Nice one Chuggin Edits!
A few words from Chuggin Edits…
England seems to be the place to be for Disco-editors.
Chuggin Edits is from Essex near London (And just far enough away from London as he describes) and yes – he’s a Disco-connoisseur. And yes, this is his Cookie Dough Mix.
If you haven’t been familiar with the man in charge, his Soundcloud-profile offers you an immense collection of his art and everyone should be able to pic a couple of favorites amongst those.
His First ever release on Deep Sense- First Voyage an edit of A Tribe Called Quest was the best selling track on that compilation and they gladly asked him back on the new Deep Sense – 2nd Voyage, so there’s certainly a lot more to be expected from the talented guy in the near future. But for now – lean back and enjoy this journey.
This mix is a compilation of tracks that have really caught my eye over the last few years and amongst them some great people and friends I have got to know since putting on my edit slippers in June 2014.
Recorded in one take on cdj’s
Track list:

fatback is this the future (Chuggin Edits)
Banbarra – shack up
inland knights – what about us
ed wizard & disco double dee – do it one more time
Tom vine – dancer
imfromull -street called love
the roling stones -emotional rescue (buzz compass)
rahan – make me hot
vinyl addicted and jean claude gavri – a lotta love
voodoo whiskey – suck my sausage
pontchartrain – monkey see
boogiemann and stan tropic – trotting hotly
glen adams affair – its just a groove
berry juice – a real mother

Instant Funk – The Funk is On [Autocycle edit]

A few words from Autocycle…
“The funk is gonna get you yet” With the word ‘funk’ being mentioned in several track names and artists, kind of gives it away. It’s what Autocycle are all about, and our roots cross a spectrum from hip hop, disco, soul and beyond, all firmly with an eye on the dancefloor and kicking it on a big system. We use loops in some mixes to do something different with tracks you might have heard before, and hopefully create an element of surprise in terms of what might come next, whilst maintaining the sound we’re looking for.
The opening track we first heard on a Crazy P mix and had no idea what it was. We tracked it down and it’s up there with our most played tracks over the last couple of years, just never got it into a mix. Finally heard it out and about on a boat party in Croatia earlier the year, not surprisingly played by Crazy P. Bought a massive smile to lots of faces! Always try to use a mixture of edits, older stuff alongside recent releases. Tracks like Ronnie Jones’ Video Games add that element of humour and fun that reminds us not to get too serious about music. Grooveman Spot’s Spacium is just filth, pitched up a bit to work with the mix, but what a groove! You’ll notice the intro loop of Syreeta used over the top, and then using effects to leave the vocal to ride on it’s own before dropping into the actual track. Probably not a mix many others would do, but takes you from filth to wild disco abandon, and we’ve purposely let the Syreeta track ride out longer than most on the mix as it’s a classic, but really lights things up. Things go more into heads down spaced out bass heavy territory through the second half, lots of video game inspired samples, giving a nod to elements earlier in the mix, perhaps most prevalant on Smith n Hack’s beast that is Space Warrior – a track that takes us back to club nights like Bugged Out and similar North West nights where we cut out teeth and clubbing memories started. We finish with one of our own edits, a funk laden guitar wig out, nice way to bring things back to the funk roots to end on.

Welcome to the Cookie-Dough Guest mix where we invite some of favourite DJ / Producers to answer a few questions and dig deep into their collections and put together a mix of their favourite records.
For this episode we have invited Meistro and DJ Stylus from Washington DJ and production collective The Sol Power All-Stars to spin some of the records that have influenced them over the years.
Their remix of A La Memoria Del Muerto has had us grooving at Cookie-Dough HQ!
Nice one chaps!

MEISTRO
01…Johnny Osbourne…Give a Little Love
This tune has all of my favorite reggae things on one track– Johnny Osbourne, backed by the Roots Radics, produced by Henry Junjo Lawes, engineered by Scientist, and recorded at Channel 1 Studios.
02…Frankie Paul…Worries in the Dance
Frankie Paul on vocals, but otherwise it’s the same lineup as the previous track. I didn’t put a straight Scientist dub on this mix, but his engineering and production / sound design style is a huge influence on my production. One of the best ever.
03…Toyan…Spar with Me
Another with the same Junjo Lawes, Roots Radics, Scientist line up. This time with the criminally underrated Toyan.
04…DJ Nut Nut…Special Dedication
I was a big jungle head in my late teenage years. I was especially into earlyish ragga and jump-up tunes with hip hop samples.
05…Remarc…In Da Hood
This tune was on Diesel Boy’s mix CD, Drum and Bass Selection U.S.A., which I listened to soooo much back in the day. Perhaps the greatest Drum and Bass mix of all time?
06…No I.D. (featuring Dug Infinite)…The Real Weight
No I.D.’s LP “Accept Yourself and Be Your Own” is an overlooked classic.
07…Bahamadia (featuring K-Swift and Mecca Star)…Three the Hard Way
Bahamadia and DJ Premier. A super tough banger from her amazing 1996 album “Kollage.” This was in heavy rotation in my high school days.
08…De La Soul…Intro
De La comes out the gate swinging with some straight-up East Coast raps on this intro to the Stakes is High LP. It’s a very “un-De La Soul,” tune, but doing the unexpected is what makes them so great (for nearly 30 years now holy shit).
09…DJ Krush featuring Black Thought and Malik B…Meiso
DJ Krush’s smokey, blunted jazz production still sounds fresh 20 years later. And Black Thought is just one of the illest ever on the mic. Another one from my highschool vaults.
10…Kenny Dope…Get on Down
Kenny Dope has been a HUGE influence on me. He’s one of the very few that can rock so many styles with total authority — funk, reggae, house, disco, hip hop, he can really do it all really really well. A true legend.
11…Mary Clark…Take Me I’m Yours
I’ve held down a 10-year residency at the Wonderland Ballroom in DC and this is always a go-to tune to get the room going. Affirmation that it should have been a hit.
12…Younger Generation…We Rap More Mellow (Joey Negro remix)
At the right moment, this song just cooks a dancefloor. Joey Negro’s subtle touch adds so much but the original character of the track remains completely intact.
13…Shina Williams and His African Percussionists…Agboju Logun
Such a tight, fonky groove. Someday I’ll find this elusive 12 inch.
14…Tony Allen with Afrobeat 2000…N.E.P.A. (Dance Dub)
I can’t think of another afrobeat tune with such a pure 80s dance-production sound. Dub effects seal the deal.
15…Quantic & His Combo Barbaro…Un Canto a Mi Tierra
This is one of the all-time Sol Power sure shots that we always play at our parties. Quantic is so unbelievably prolific and combines the traditional with the modern better than anyone.
16…Fruko y Sus Tesos…Descarga Espectacular
The best Salsa comes from Colombia and the best Colombian Salsero is Fruko.
17…Four Tet…Love Cry
Four Tet’s twisted production, knocking drums, and sense of composition is always inspiring.
18…Ben Westbeech…Hang Around (Karizma’s Deepah 1ne Remix)
I love me some Ben Westbeech, but I really picked this tune because of Karizma. I HAD to put at least one Baltimore house producer on the mix. Baltimore is often overlooked as a big house music town, but for such a small city, it’s DEEP with unbelievable talent, has a very distinct sound, and has inspired many (including me)…Karizma, Spen, Teddy Douglas, Crystal Waters, Ultra Naté…so many legends.
19…Michel Cleis…Mir a Nero
His drums man…If mine ever sound half as good, I’ll be happy.
20…Kenlou…The Bounce
There’s already a Kenny Dope track on here, but I just had to include a Masters At Work tune. Greatest house producers ever and their tunes still sound so fresh so many years later.
STYLUS
01…Poor Righteous Teachers…Easy Star
This is one of my fave jams that I never get to play from one of the most underrated golden era hip-hop groups. PRT has hits like “Shakiyla” and “Rock Dis Funky Joint” but the real treats are in their album cuts. R.I.P. Tony D.
02…Steely Dan…The Fez
If I had to make a holy trinity of my favorite bands of all time, Steely Dan is either Jesus or The Holy Ghost.
03…Michael Jackson…Dancing Machine (Daniel Crawford remix)
Because there’s Jackson DNA in almost everything I do as a DJ. And D. Crawford is a beast.
04…Os Tincoãs…Deiza A Gira Girá
My first Brazil trip was a bucket list experience for me and the highlight was visiting Cachoeira in Bahia, discovering this vocal group from that town and tracking down their music. They’re long overdue for some Sol Power edits.
05…A Bossa Elétrica…Sob A Luz Do Sol
Staying in Brazil with a sexy Roy Ayers cover. This one pretty much has a permanent slot in my Sol Power warm-up sets.
06…Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band…Think Twice (4hero Remix)
Great remix of a great cover. And we’re still in Brazil.
07…Donald Byrd…Think Twice
Because you gotta throw the o.g. in there. R.I.P. Fonce Mizell.
08…De La Soul…Simply / Simply Havin’
This mix clearly didn’t have enough De La Soul. Meistro and I share that level of fandom.
09…A Tribe Called Quest…Footprints
De La and Tribe like peanut butter and chocolate.
10…De La Soul…Breakadawn (Altered Tapes Rework)
This rework tackles an already perfect tune and matches its original brilliance.
11…Erykah Badu…The Cell
The toughest Badu joint that seemingly no one acknowledges. McNasty filth for the b-boys and b-girls. I’m toprocking while writing this.
12…Trouble Funk…So Early in the Morning
As a native of Washington, DC, go-go music was the earliest and most enduring musical influence on me outside of what I heard in my home. My heart still essentially beats to a go-go pocket.
13…Rare Essence…Body Moves
Trouble and Essence were the direct inheritors of the go-go legacy that Chuck Brown created. “Body Moves” is from the boogie funk era of the music. Shoutout to everyone that ever rollerskated to this.
14…Jungle Brothers…Feelin’ Alright
Completing a Native Tongues trifecta with a selection from my fave hip-hop album of all time, the J-Beez sophomore effort Done By The Forces Of Nature.
15…Wilson Das Neves…Tema Para Elizeth
Snuck back to Brazil. Because horns.
16…The Jackson 5…The Mirrors of My Mind
Another for the breakers.
17…Herbie Hancock…Chameleon
This album is on the shortlist of those that changed my life.
18…Ruben Blades…Plastico 2007 (Nauts Borica Vox)
Using a Panamanian salsa (and Sol Power) classic to transition into a mini-tribute to one of my favorite production crews and eras of electronic music of all time. Big ups to Afronaught and Bugz In The Attic.
19…Bugz In The Attic…Intro
When that West London sound broke and really got popping, you couldn’t tell me it wasn’t the funkiest, most innovative thing happening in dance music. I still feel that way when I go back to their stuff.
20…Dego and Kaidi Tatham…Dealt A Bad Hand
I borrowed this record from a friend and played it over and over until the sun rose. Took me years to track down my own copy. I miss Co-Op.

15…Wilson Das Neves…Tema Para Elizeth
Snuck back to Brazil. Because horns.
16…The Jackson 5…The Mirrors of My Mind
Another for the breakers.
17…Herbie Hancock…Chameleon
This album is on the shortlist of those that changed my life.
18…Ruben Blades…Plastico 2007 (Nauts Borica Vox)
Using a Panamanian salsa (and Sol Power) classic to transition into a mini-tribute to one of my favorite production crews and eras of electronic music of all time. Big ups to Afronaught and Bugz In The Attic.

A few words from Tanzlife..
I’m glad to get invite to Cookie Dough’s guest mix. I treated this mix specially and differently than a regular podcast.
Selected music that I like a lot and somehow it’s close to me. It is the most chillout and cosmic mix what I’ve done, more to relax, listen & think.
Just beautiful music from many areas and times, have a nice trip

Nice one Ziggy!

A few words from Ziggy…
I was happy to be asked by the guys from CookieDoughMusic, Terser & Ste, to do a mix for them with music that has influenced and moved me over the years- and that music from any genre could be included & used. This gave me the opportunity to create a really diverse and all-around mix with songs I love and adore.
So much music have influenced me in all kind of genres throughout the years, so it was difficult to choose which songs & what genres to include in the mix and still keep it to around 90 minutes, I wanted to include some of my favorite house tunes (I am a house head as well) and some more disco, but I had to omit them because of the time limit! But these songs & gems are some that has really influenced and moved me over the years and in my childhood and teen years.
In this 90 min long mix you will hear everything from Rock to Pop to Italo to Funk & Disco to Slow-burners, Synth-Pop and monster classics. Scroll down to see tracklist.
It was a pleasure doin’ it and I hope you'll all like it as much as I did creating & recording it...

Tracklisting
1] INXS - Suicide Blonde..: Starting out with this major ass-kicking hit song by Australian rockers INXS. My parents played INXS a lot when I was a child, my mom had all their albums and this is one of my absolute favorite songs by this group, RAW energy!!! This is my own personal extended DJ edit.
2] Yello - The Race..: Yello has as well been played a lot by my parents all the way through my childhood, especially by my father. I decided to include "The Race" from 1988. This track is nothing but FIRE, from the amazing synths, the deep drums to his evil dark voice!!! Again is this my own DJ edit.
3] Prince - Let's Go Crazy..: One of my favorites by Prince, he opened Orange Stage with this song when I saw his concert at Roskilde festival in 2010. He is one of the most diverse artists ever, countless albums and countless genres. Personal extended edit.
4] Michael Jackson - I Want You Back..: This song just makes me feel good. My personal favorite from The Jackson 5 before Michael went solo in 71.
5] The Commodores – Nightshift..: My parents used to play this a lot while I grew up so the song has a special place in my heart. I've always loved the original song released in 85, but to have it remade in Michael Jackson’s memory in this 2010 version, it is truly amazing..!
6] UB40 - Red Red Wine..: Have been chillin' and relaxing a lot to this great summer tune on my holidays...
7] Starship - Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now..: "Lookin' in your eyes, I see a paradise"... Amazing 80s love song with some sweet synths! My own dj cut. Removed the part where she screams out the chorus.
8] Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days..: What to say! Great Great Great...
9] Des'Ree - Life..: I was a child in the 90s and remember watching the music video of this on MTV all the time: And the lyrics "Life indeed can be fun, If you really want to, Sometimes living out your dreams, Ain't as easy as it seems”! This song is just about enjoying the simple things in life….
10] The Jones Girls - You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else..: Legendary ladies... The guitar & bassline in this is just ABSOLUTE! Drops this one often in my DJ sets!
11] Laura Branigan - Self Control..: Laura’s cover version of the original by RAF from 84, I love both versions in different ways. My own extended dj cut!
12] Scotch - Delirio Mind..: It should not be any surprise for you who know- or follow me that I have a love for Italo Disco, and this track was one of the first Italo songs I got introduced to. A true masterpiece... This is the 12” version!
13] Diana Ross - Im Coming Out..: A really happy disco tune, with a catchy horn line and a superb rhythm electric guitar, chose this because my mom used to play the 12”. Diana thought that "I'm Coming Out" was a song about her leaving Motown Records but Nile Rodgers says he had to lie to the singer. Nile Rodgers got the idea for "I'm Coming Out" after noticing three different drag queens dressed as Diana Ross at a New York nightclub called the GG Barnum Room.
14] Sophie Ellis Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor..: This song could’ve been written in any of the past 3 decades, and that’s part of its charm in my opinion. A really great disco infected pop song, and I love this chilled out balearic mix!
15] Modern Talking - You're My Heart, You're My soul..: A cheesy love- but yet outstanding classic synthpop tune… My own extended DJ edit (find it on my soundcloud for a free download)…
16] Koto - Visitors..: I got introduced to this Italo monster tune by my Italo friend & record collector Jeff. This song is just Badass. This is the typically Italo disco sound for the Italo that was released between 1981-1984! Some of those special synths sounds were never made again…
17] Tom Jones - Sex Bomb..: This is just a pumping, hollering groove and I love this remix!
18] Janet Jackson - Together Again..: I have some really good memories attached to this song I was 8 years when this came out. “Together again” still has the power to put a smile on my face, and I don’t think that will ever change…
19] Earth, Wind & Fire - September..: This was one of the very first Disco songs I ever heard.
20] Yazoo - Don't Go..: Another quality 80s jam with an incredible huge powerful voice and synths pads. Had a difficult time deciding to include this or “Situation”, both classics, but chose this one as it was the first one I heard from Yazoo. The 80s was with no doubt the best musical decade ever.
21] New Order - Blue Monday..: Just a stunning explosion of drum machines & wibbly synths. This is the 1988' mix...

For this episode our Canadian mates at A Digital Needle (Dylan and John) take you on a magical mystery tour of their favourite records, and what a mix they have put together!
Nice one fellas!!
Ste & Terser

The Temptations – Plastic Man (ADN Ruff Cut) [Dylan]
Just the sort of soul music that brought us into the world of Disco. Norman Whitfield, man!

John Ozila – Funky Boogie [John]
A song that proved to us we could make people dance, even with songs our crowd didn’t necessarily know. Also got us hooked on searching out more World music. Just found out today that he played drums with Black Soul as Jean Tamegnon.

George Smallwood – Lady Disco [John]
One of the first mellow Disco songs I could groove to. I’m a bit of a crazy dancer and I like my music fast, but Mr. Smallwood has proven I can take it slow – it just has to be brilliant.

The Equals – Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys [Dylan]
We probably have gotten more dance floor mileage out of “Funky Like a Train”, but this song’s message echoed a lot of the two-tone stuff I always dug, and this is an influences mix after all.

First Choice – Double Cross (Eli Escobar Disco Mix) [John]
Proto-house, Disco, funk, jazz. This song leads you down so many roads. EE’s got a fresh take and a great one at that.

The Style Council – Promised Land (Drop Out Orchestra Remix) [Dylan]
Is the Joe Smooth version better? Probably. Paul Weller was my idol, for a long time. Such a gifted songwriter from such a young age, and I always respected the evolution of his sound. His “ever changing moods”, one might say.

Hugh Masakela – Don’t Go Lose It Baby (stretch mix) [John]
The build in this is tremendous. 6 minutes of tension. Exhilarating. This song taught me to be patient. Good times come to deejays who wait.

Midnight Magic – Beam Me Up (ADN Extended) [Dylan]
A song that give us hope for reaching modern audiences with Disco music. We took the name of our monthly classic Disco party with Cyclist from it, and we’ve been lucky enough to host Al Kent, Kon, Tim Zawada, Rob Ouimet, Psychemagik, Apt One and Dave Allison at it.

Nightlife Unlimited – Peaches & Prunes (Ron Hardy Edit) [John]
I fancy myself a strange deejay, but Ron Hardy is so strange that I find most of his edits unplayable. Maybe I’ll grow into them. I think his oddness and his cult following are a real testament to how wonderful of a deejay he must have been. This edit I understand fully, and love. What a killer. He really boosts my confidence that crazy can reach the masses, along with guys like Harvey, of course.

Bad Manners – What The Papers Say (ADN Dub Edit) [Dylan]
A little nod to the punk/ska/new wave leanings of my youth. Underplayed and under appreciated tune from Buster and the gang. Had the pleasure of meeting him for a short interview, a few years back. Despite his being an Arsenal supporter, we got on well!

Wax – Rock & Stomp (ADN Edit) [John]
We are huge Al Kent fans. He has brought Disco to a new level. This is Dylan’s edit that made Al Kent’s ears perk up when he heard it at our party with him. It was just at soundcheck, but I saw a twinkle in his eye, haha. It’s an edit that gave us confidence that we can hang with the big boys.

Paul McCartney & Wings – Coming Up [Dylan]
My Dad is Beatles-mad, so I heard a lot of Macca growing up. I actually think, borderline blasphemy here, that I dig Paul’s work with Wings more than I do the Beatles, but that’s just cos I’ve likely overplayed them growing up. Paul doin’ a bit of Left Field Disco here, and pulling it off with aplomb!

The People’s Workshop – Funkathone (Al Kent Re-Edit) [John]
My personal favourite off the Disco Demands series. Al Kent changed the way we viewed Disco. He takes a lot from his extensive knowledge of the soul/jazz/funk scene and makes it his own. It has opened our eyes to the unbelievable breadth of Disco. This one is unbelievable. I could play it 10,000 times and I wouldn’t can it.

The Beach Boys – Here Comes The Night (ADN Dub Edit) [Dylan]
I think my first over concert was the Beach Boys, though by then they were overpaid and overfed, with no real chemistry amongst them. I’m sure I enjoyed it, mind you, I was only about five years old. The Beach Boys were the first band that I truly adored, and I’ll always listen to them. I worked on this edit just so I could slip some of their music into our Disco parties.

For this episode we are privileged to have none other than one of the main men on the edits scene at the moment Tony Johns.
Here at Cookie-Dough HQ we are buzzin’ that Tony has taken time out to put together this mix just for us.
Nice one Brother Johns!
beastie boys – posse in effect. this was always my fave track from “license to ill”
timmy thomas – why cant we live together. this is the tom moulton remix, again for those who have not yet heard this version, its fantastic and this song will never age, the content will always be relevant.
rah band – clouds across the moon. this record just makes me feel good (not a guilty pleasure for me)
ned doheny – get it up for love. a fantastic end of the nighter and ticks all the boxes for me.
malcolm mclaren – madam butterfly. amazing fusion of pop and opera, genius.
davy dmx – one for the treble. i was heavily into hip hop culture as a kid and this track represents that time in my life.
public enemy – fight the power. public enemy were the best thing on def jam since run dmc i loved this track and still do.
dizzy rascal – fix up look sharp. really not a fan of uk hip hop or uk garage but this track caught my attention immediately.
jay z – lucifer. excellent paul nice remix.
appo – out in da street. remix from my friend appo, very talented producer and musician ive been lucky enough to work with on a china crisis track.
dubmatix – happy. i think dubmatix is the best modern reggae producer out there, this track features the legendary tippa irie.
ronnie hudson – west coast poplock. gangsta p funk at its best.
chris isaak – wicked game. love this song, this version is from “dynamicron vultan” again an amazing talent ive been blessed to work with more than once.
mr fingers – what about this love. listen to this and tell me the so solid crew are garage!
visage – fade to grey. i was too young for blitz and the new wave scene but a lot of it came to light again in 88 when everyone was searching for their own balearic discovery 12″
gang of 4 – what we all want. sampled by westbam & again for the glider e.p. this is my own re edit of this track.
electra – future. if i had to describe my clubbing experience in london in 1988 with one record it would be this!
grandmasterflash & the furious 5 – superappin. remixed by the pied piper (another amazing musician ive collaborated with)
tenpole tudor – swords of 1000 men. post punk masterpiece, absolute pubstep classic!
so there`s my journey and i hope you enjoy listening as much as i enjoyed putting it together,
PEACE LOVE & MUSIC……. TONY JOHNS

TONY JOHNS</itunes:summary>
