A tiny (fourth) session we held with a small rented sound system in a nearby youth centre four months after the grandiose party with Phishmaol & Bailey in Landau failure in December 2000. The flyer was a collabo with Shoota (he was Rob Prayford / Optimal, I was Moldie / Groovetwix) and the irremarkable public premiere of the first Trio-logo. The recording is me playing a "normal" spontaneous collage of my favourite rolling tunes at that time when I was just beginning to occasionally experiment with approximately distinct styles for different mixtapes at home. I was still far from forming my own musical identity and still in the experimental, if not basic training stage. But when I compare those old tapes to those of equally irrelevant and relevant DnB-DJs from the same time I think that most aware listeners versed in the field I was plowing can recognize a tiny difference or loose set of ideas that grew and developed with the years. In retrospect I do think that my 20 year old mixtapes, despite the youthful mindless selection and technical/handicraft fails upon fails, demonstrate/record the same hidden potential in the chaos that was my taste that I did later on realize / mix / record at least in part. All that is probably just the smell of my own farts, but history can pass judgement on my strobings, post-Kaiza-artist-mixes, intro/interlude meme combinations and multi-genre excursions in the face of the competition. I bow before DJ A.M.C, DJ Andy C and DJ NPC for what they did and that I didn't do, and I pay sane and mad respect to Madcap, The Scratch Technician, Bad Boy Kaiza, DJ Technique, Spinbad and Kid Koala of course, and a bunch of others and sorry to all I forgot, but in the end, who did do what I did do? I will be glad to learn about them and listen to their mixes.
As with all tape rips on this profile: not EQed (I lack that skill outside of deejaying). Just download the 320s, play them locally and EQ them yourselves (push up the higher band as needed) using proper players like Audacious or VLC. Streaming is wrong.

<itunes:summary>A tiny (fourth) session we held with a small rented sound system in a nearby youth centre four months after the grandiose party with Phishmaol & Bailey in Landau failure in December 2000.

In 1997, as an underaged teenager, I managed to get a saturday warmup slot in a bar with 1210s. I played some of my favourite Techno records (as well as I could) and recorded much of the set on a 90 min tape. You can hear how I made some of the same mistakes as I used to make years later with DnB. But, sad=true story: I was not worse than the average DJ (even "my" record dealer, Crazy Erg, occasionally listened to my tapes), so the older guy who played after me that evening gave me an offline like and wrote down the phone number of his booking agency for me. Next week I made the call and got an appointment, but I was too stupid to find the address at the given date and too ashamed to call again afterwards; classic double-fail. In all the years later, even with Tilt-Recordings and actual bookings abroad & everything in my back I never got a booking agency tip ever again. I blew my career before it even started, lol.

This are all the cassette tape recordings of a Trio/Phishmaol collabo party in December 2000. I organized the club, Kaiza organized Budoka and the flyer, Trio crew people did the "small" jobs (door etc) and Budoka organized Bailey and Santana. First DnB party in this location, and the first time a UK headliner played in this city. 350 heads turned up, good crowd, all bubbling and ready for Bailey. It was a good party thus far, and a few of the dubplates played that night are still unreleased. But then during Budoka's set, the club's security staff attacked some of the punters outside, police came (and left!) - and after that the party was cancelled by a lying spokesman of a standard masonic conspiracy just when Bailey played his first tune - he had to stop it less than a minute after the drop. Being the least significant player I did the warmup, then Kaiza played (with Shoota), then Budoka (with Santana), then Bailey (with instant shutdown). 2 months later the club was closed down by authorities - karma perhaps? Anyway it was a valuable experience loaded with important life lessons. Now, almost 20 years later, I still don't get them all, but the first tune played that night was, ironically, "Fabulus Way" by Interrupt (Southern Sessions SOUTH004).
