You might know him as Junktion, Co-founder/A&R of Dutch record label Outplay @outplay or as one half of driving groove duo Fouk @justsayfouk. It seems anything he gets his hands on literally turns to gold, with recent releases on Slow Town Records, Razor-N-Tape and Sleazy Beats Black Ops all selling out quicker than your granny could unbutton her blouse. More recently though, the Netherlands native took a break from his duties at Outplay to don his Junktion moniker and treat us in the form of a little 10” platter out now on Rose Records!

Yo, Who's on munchies tonight?
Stepping up for number 39 in the series is @Luvless, the Leipzig based DJ & Producer, widely known as the man behind Rose Records which he and four friends formed in 2011 by releasing their debut 12″ Various One. Leipzig may be his hometown but having produced quality productions for the likes of Rose Records, Kolour LTD, Sleazybeats, Tsuba Records and Razor 'N Tape, he's become a frequent globetrotter. Luvless has harnessed his love of house, hip hop, disco, soul and jazz and distilled these influences to form the basis of his productions. Raw, emotive and genuine are the three traits that shine through in his sound. Mid tempo and low slung house, shot through with feeling from another time. Piano and vocal arrangements that melt the heart and see the dancefloor lifted up with renewed energy at 5am. A class act.
His DJ style is in the same vein as his productions, programming his sets with an elegant and distinctive taste whilst holding down a flawless mixing technique, to take the crowd on an exciting and intricate journey, whilst locked into the Luvless groove.

The Ivory Boy is the pseudonym behind which Italian born DJ and producer Luca Spinogatti operates. Now based in the welcoming city of Berlin, Germany, he regularly performs in the city’s many club venues.
His personal and musical growth traces back to the years in Bologna, Italy, between the late nineties and the beginning of the millennium. There, he collaborated with several artists from the local and national hip hop and funk scene, promoting one of the city’s hottest parties, weekly appointment FunkyVag. During the same period he released tracks with London based Jazzman Records UK, Record Kicks, and Soupy records IT, using the pseudonym DJ TIB, and collecting a series of shows in Italy and Europe. After a crucial stay in NYC in 2008, to complete his musical background, Luca now lives in Berlin, where he started his new project. In composing his tracks, he still taps into his large collection of old vinyl records, obtained through extensive crate digging in the shelves of record shops from all over the world. He then favors analog old school machinery to process the sound before the mixing process, to give his sound a distinct modern ‘vintage-sample’ flavor. The first singles produced for Small World Disco UK quickly climbed Disco music charts in Europe and US (juno rec, Piccadilly, hhv, turntable lab, etc…), obtaining exciting reviews, and support from musical personalities like Greg Wilson, Sleazy Beats, Ray Mang, and Deadly Sins.
Besides his solo project, Luca is also one half of the Peanuts (No Nore Hits) and Mop Mop Soundsystem with Andrea Benini and Alex Trebo (Agogo/Best Works).

Carina has been on the radar since day dot, she's no stranger to the disco scene and knows a thing or two when it comes to banging out a set. She's been kind enough to put together a set for our mix series for a taster of what to expect on the night.
She joins us in Sandinos Back Bar, Derry this Saturday 28th March

Queen & Disco ¦ Podcast 034 - LeSale

LeSale is the musical project of Austrian based French DJ & Producer Samuel Fedy. It all started off with a batch of edits that are still doing the rounds and later contributions to the releases of his label Luv Shack Records got DJ support from the likes of Bicep, OOFT!, Ejeca, The Magician and many more.
Unlike many other producers, LeSale doesn’t claim to have an obnoxious uncle with an insanemmense record collection or a far away cousin who was a cult DJ in the disco-era...
All his love and interest for collecting, playing and producing music was self-generated in his late teens, where he went from listening to hip hop to vocal house, edging slightly on the latin & broken beat movement, whence he returned to house and finally touched base with disco music, quickly realising that all the music he loved evolved somehow from this truly inspiring genre.

After playing as a bassist and guitarist for various bands, he started producing in the mid-nineties and has kept on mixing today’s technologies with the raw spirits of Disco, Funk, Soul & Jazz music’s golden years since then. Following the trail of success left by his many projects such as Mr President, Uptown Funk Empire, The Dynamics, Taggy Matcher, Patchworks Galactic Project or Metropolitan Jazz Affair, Patchworks proved his musical ubiquity album after album and unexpectedly stroke in various genres.

The Italian maestro has impressed us over the past few years with his remixes and edits of dancefloor-killer disco tracks released on labels like Lumberjacks In Hell, GAMM, KAT Records & EBO to name only a few. More recently he has teased us with his version of Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out, which in our own opinion is reworked to perfection.

Queen & Disco ¦ Podcast 020 - Dr Packer

Dr Packer is an alias of West Australian DJ/Producer 'Greg Packer' set up for remixes & edits of mainly retro music such as 70's, 80's, 90's Soul, Disco, Funk, Hip-Hop & Reggae.
Early last year (2013) greg started picking up re-edits and a certain artist stood out to him known as 'Late Nite Tuff Guy’. He loved the way the original songs were beefed up and sounded fat on a club system but the original vibe was still there. These edits were quantised perfectly meaning you were able to beat mix them flawlessly unlike playing the original vinyl.
In August 2013 Greg Produced his first two edits under the name 'Dr Packer'. Unsure of what to do with them he sent them to ‘Fingerman', who instantly played both of them on his show and suggested to send more his way , this was the push he needed to continue what was initially a bit of a fun experiment...
Labels Such as 'Disco Dat', 'Hot Digits', 'Hotbox Boogie' & 'Midnight Riot' have all shown plenty of love for the doctor so things wont be slowing down anytime soon…

Drop Out Orchestra are a duo we love. Largely down to their brazen attitude towards their edits. i.e. it doesn’t matter how big, how small, how mainstream, or how obscure the track may be, if the boys think they can add to it then it’s on their agenda. The duo effortlessly take to tracks that most wouldn’t touch with a barge-pole. From Daft Punk to The Talking Heads, it matters not.
Tracks like ‘Heartbreak Reputation’ made us fall in love with their sound and this mix turns that love into full blown infatuation. Clear the diary folks, this one takes priority for the next while...

Queen & Disco ¦ Podcast 018 - A Digital Needle

Dylan-Thomas and John McLeod are A Digital Needle, purveyors of disco, house, jazz-funk, Latin & the Afro-Caribbean sounds.
They first met in ’96 but only started playing together in 2008 with a strict music policy of straight up 60’s bangers under the pseudonym 'The In Crowd'. As the gigs flowed, the buzz waned and the music policy was expanded to a more all encompassing approach spanning across the decades. So long as it had Soul, it was in the bag. A search for a home in the music scene was over when they first encountered Disco in all its glory at Montreal’s Love Disco Style Party. Disco soon became an obsession and the duo turned their hands to the studio in order to craft their newly discovered love in a way that ensured it’s place on the dance floor.
Dylan-Thomas and John keep themselves busy with a monthly disco party dubbed ‘Beam Me Up’ in their local Toronto. Away from their bookings, mixes, and productions, this really provides a chance for the boys to flex their creative muscles, not only in sound, but total end-user experience.
To cut to the chase, we love what the boys do, in everything that they do. So it’s our pleasure to bring you A Digital Needle.

Podcast number 17 comes from a guy who we have been following for a long time. He started collecting records from the age of 12, all the LPs, maxi singles and rarities that were included in his parents tapes, spending uncountable hours reading and ordering from the mail brochures of the record stores worldwide. The orders, always with his parents’ support, had been taking place on a weekly basis, until he found himself running a collection of more than 5000 records by late-90s. By then, Akis was deep into the electronic music scene and became a true lover of house music and all its styles (garage, disco, progressive, funky, jazzy).
Editing has been more than a game for Akis because he always takes the best out of the old gems, trying to working on them with respect but giving a modern sense and better sound, as together with his pioneer sound-engineer Grego works on mastering technics and programs.
We first came across his blog where he showcases some of the finest wax about. Only a small portion of it though, as he keeps some of the real gems for his dj sets, some of which can be found on his Soundcloud. His latest venture is a new record label, Editors Kutz, which already has 3 releases under it’s belt, with another scheduled to drop very soon and you don’t want to miss it!

As his record collection raises to more than 18.000 records now, sometimes he jokes saying he need's a bigger house!! He keeps struggling for vinyl existence, showing an extra respect to people that do so. He believes that he could live without compact music in this compact world, but he couldn’t live without the true feelings vinyl bring to life!
His blog is dedicated to everyone who supports and promote vinyl and keep it alive!
Addicted to vinyl and long may it last.

Jamie has been on our radar for quite a while now. He is a veteran in the Edinburgh scene & his pitched down reworks of old disco, funk & soul tracks on his own imprint, 78 recordings & other labels like Editorial, Glenview, Giant Cuts & Kolour Recordings have gained him support from LTJ Xperience, Matthew Kyle & many more likeminded groove makers. We’re always eager to hear what he’s going to put out next and he’s one of those guys when you see his name on a release, it’s in the cart before you even have to listen! Give him a follow @78edits and check out his backlog of beatdown disco goodness.

People Must Jam, a Sydney based warehouse party that has been running for around 6 years, consists of Matt Trousdale, Pete Dot and James Weirick.
The ethos behind their night initially, was to bring DJs to Australia that they wanted to hear, but had never been, and put them on in intimate spaces and let them dig deep into their collections.
Over the years they have brought Rahaan, Al Kent, Mark Seven, Frank Booker and more, for their first time to play in Australia. We first heard of them when they released their first in a series of 12" EP's, Floor Jammers Vol. 1. The record featured four killer cuts that all stood their ground on the dancefloor and showcased the vibe down under at People Must Jam.
Lined up for future records they have Rahaan, Mark Seven, Leo Zero, Frank Booker, Felix Dickinson, Andy Ash and more. Don't miss out, you've been warned!

To bring our series into double digits we have a man who’s tracks have been a mainstay in Q&D sets from pretty much day one, that man is Fingerman. Q&D residents Alan Mooney and Barry Crumley recently had the pleasure of playing alongside the big guy in Brighton’s Above Audio and haven’t stopped singing his praises since so we’re delighted to be able to add this mix to roster.
Fingerman has held residencies in Casablanca Jazz club and more recently Above Audio, both in Brighton, where he has been able to really hone his sound. Now hailed as one of the most influential acts on the disco and re-edit scene, his edits never fail to disappoint and always go down a storm on the dance floor.
In recent years labels have been virtually fighting for the chance to secure Gregg’s latest ventures for their releases as they’re guaranteed to hold their own regardless what else is on the record.
One of the hottest properties about on the re-edit scene we’re over the moon to have this mix and can’t wait for you all to have a listen. So, without further adue….

A true child of the 80's, Danny Worrall (80's Child) has slotted nicely into the disco/re-edit scene over the last few years and rightly so, with his shed load of free edits on his soundcloud and his debut release, ‘Back To the 80s Volume 1‘ a four track dance floor killer out on Retrospective storming the Juno charts.
Between this and volume 2 which dropped just earlier this month, Danny released his 'Night Vision' EP on YamWho's Midnight Riot label that received loads of attention from the likes of Late Nite Tuff Guy, who included his rework of the Hall & Oats classic, 'I Can't Go For That,' in his Top 5 picks for Cafe Del Mar Australia.
80's Child maintains the integrity of the originals but updates these tunes for today’s dancefloor. It seems music is life for him, the word attitude is not in his dictionary and his ‘down to earth’ personality is the biggest treasure he has. That's enough from us... hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

This mix has done some serious air miles to make its way to us, all the way from Japan. For many Europeans it may be hard to imagine a dance world outside this little bubble of ours, so when one of the hottest properties about at the minute turns out to be Japanese you could be forgiven for thinking it’s just a touch from leftfield.
The truth of it is, the scene in Japan is bustling with activity and Shota Tanaka, better known by his pseudonym, Beaten Space Probe, is the standard bearer for this movement. His label BSP has been just another in a long line of successful ventures with his 2 records going to number 1 on the Junodownload Chart. His work has seen him garner high praise from Greg Wilson, Dicky Trisco, Tensnake, Optimo, Craig Smith and many more so he must be doing something right.
He played in Waterford for the Get Down Edits lads in Autumn past and by all accounts blew the roof off the place, all be it more a veranda than a roof but impressive nevertheless. His unassuming nature and friendly character combined with a serious prowess for crate digging make him a dangerman behind the decks with his infectious feel good vibe.
So clear an hour or so from your schedule and allow Shota to pull the strings...

Queen & Disco ¦ Podcast 006 - Tony Johns Edits

The mixes just keep rolling in and for this instalment we have the hugely impressive Tony Johns. The big guy hails from London but has been spreading his musical seed worldwide through regular guest slots on a wide range of stations including, we play jams radio (New York), grooveskoolradio, disco 935 (New York), and many more.
This man shows us that funk doesn’t have to mean disco which is the main reason we were so delighted to get a listen to the mix. In future we’ll be bringing a lot more dimensions into the Q&D sound and what better way to get the point across than to have Tony Johns lead the way with his ‘Hippity-Hoppity’, Old-School infused sound.
Already having collaborations with jay negron, alkalino, pied piper, choci roc, fingerman, 80s child, rob ouimet, dj jp-sol, discobody, appo ozone, chewy rubs, dynamicron and tony jacalone to name a few it’s a slight cout for us to have his name down on the roster for our podcast series which, if we do say so ourselves, is starting to shape up rather nicely.
Finally, for all you Q&D heads in Northern Ireland, don’t forget we have Dicky Trisco this Friday 24th January in Sandinos and we hope (expect) to see you there!
Enjoy folks.

<itunes:summary>The mixes just keep rolling in and for this instalment we have the hugely impressive Tony Johns.
Enjoy folks.</itunes:summary>

We booked Craig Smith to play with us in Newcastle under Twisted Logic a few years back and it was one of the best sets we've heard til' date. He played an absolute blinder of a set, and it was an eye-opener for us all so understandably we've got him in to play at our Christmas Special. This mix is no different where Craig shows his now almost unique blend of house, breaks, and a wee classic thrown in at the end for good measure ;)

For the second installment of our podcast series we have a double header of live sets taken from our recent night with Get Down Edits and @Late-Nite-Tuff-Guy. The two were kind enough to allow us to record live from The Gweedore and they didn't disappoint in the slightest.
The 2nd part of the poddy comes from none other than @Late-Nite-Tuff-Guy. We were beaming from ear to ear when we first heard this recording back. As you'd expect from a man who's knowledge and experience is so vast, the set was perfectly crafted over the 90 odd minutes and rose to a bouncing crescendo which had everyone forgetting their dignity.
Make some time for this and give it a listen....

The first part of the podcast comes from the same fella's who brought us our first ever podcast series, Get Down Edits. On warm up duties for the night, the lads as expected delivered the goods, we all agreed that the lads could have well headlined the event and we'll have 'em back up north soon enough no doubt.
