Ötzi, also called the Iceman, is a nickname given to the well-preserved natural mummy of a man who lived around 3,300 BCE, more precisely between 3359 and 3105 BCE. The mummy was found in September 1991 in the Ötztal Alps, hence the nickname "Ötzi", near the Similaun mountain and Hauslabjoch on the border between Austria and Italy. He is Europe's oldest known natural human mummy. His body and belongings are displayed in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy. His remains have been a gift that goes on giving for scientists of all kinds. One of the more recent examples is an attempt to reconstruct his voice based on CT scans of his vocal tract to work out its shape and use that to synthesis what his voice might have sounded like. I used a part of the recording of that reconstructed voice sample to base some music around as it is a fairly rhythmic set of vowel sounds which i managed to fit with some suitably paced percussive sounds and atmospheric pads. It's a bit odd, but its also a bit experimental and hopefully I'm the first person to set Ötzi the Iceman's voice to a musical accompaniment!
