Lyrics John Eagle

John and I were talking on here while I was up in Norfolk about the Fen Men, lost treasure and the shaping of the country both where he is in USA and where I am in Cambridgeshire. A couple of months on and he presented me with these lyrics which were loosely based on the events in our conversation...good eh :-) I laid down bass, a rough beat and some loose chords and Pete did the business with the drums, we went a bit towards the funky side of rock I guess, suited the vibe, again he added to the track his own distinctiveness which then got guitars in various guises and a little bit of mixing..well OK quite a lot LOL

The Fens
There’s something shiny
On the darkened moor
The peat is dark
The water so cold
The moon sits high
In a blackened sky
The stars are shrouded
And has been there nigh

Croyland Abbey
The monolith near
Had a coin with a sign
Guthlac was here
A Roman coin
Found in the fens
Somewhere near Trinity Bridge
It caused a row
Between men of means
But the people know
More than it seems

And jets flew high
In the blue of the sky
Epochs and doctrine
In a unforced clash
Of might and sin
A coin is never as old
As the land that holds

Croyland Abbey
The monolith near
Had a coin with a sign
Guthlac was here
A Roman coin
Found in the fens
Somewhere near Trinity Bridge
It caused a row
Between men of means
But the people know
More than it seems

The smell of cakes burning
came as a warning
for those who sought paths to safety

The Fenman watches
all fires are extinguished
left to drown, passage paid in blood washed into the sea.

Croyland Abbey
The monolith near
Had a coin with a sign
Guthlac was here
A Roman coin
Found in the fens
Somewhere near Trinity Bridge
It caused a row
Between men of means
But the people know
More than it seems...
