The sine output of a Tiptop Z3000 VCO and output 1 of a Intellijel|Cylonix Shapeshifter were fed to the inputs of a Mutable Instruments Warps. The algorithm control of the Warps was controlled by a NLC Sloth. Warps was feed to an MI Rings module with Structure and Dampening parameters being modulated by a pair of Frequency Central WaveRunner LFOs (one on Sine the other on S/H). Rings position parameter was being modulate by MI Tides on a very slow setting. Rings frequency was modulated by a channel on a 4ms PEG via an Expert Sleepers Disting acting as a quantizer. The other PEG channel controlled the Shapeshifter's Out1 shape.

Each channel of Rings was recorded in Ableton on its own track. The output from Warps was also recorded on a separate track Standard Ableton effects were used and were controlled in real time from a Beatstep pro acting as a control surface. Some final EQ and level control was done post recording to control some audio nasties.

Channel 1 to the odd channel on the SMR which was locked in place Yarn's Channel 2 was sent to the evens channel on the SMR which was left to rotate. The SMR odd and even o/p were sent to a Veils VCA whose envelopes were being controlled by Peaks in ADSR mode. Gates fro the Peaks came from Yarns gate outputs. A copy of Yarns gates was sent to the clockwise and anticlockwise rotate controls on the SMR to enable rotation. A further copy of the anticlock wise gate was sent to a 4ms Rotating Clock Divider. 2 clocks were sent to the red and blue pings of a 4ms PEG. The red and blue o/p of the were sent to the morph and spread controls of the SMR.

The BSP was syncd via USB to Ableton.

Patch details

Doepfer A-198 ribbon controller patched to a Manhattan Analogue CVP providing some slew. Both o/p of the CVP going to 2 VCOs; a TipTop Z3000 and a Fonitronik TH 555. The saw and trinagle of the Z3000 going to the first 2 channels of a MA Mix module. The square of the TH 555 going to the 3rd ip of the Mix. OP of the mix goes to a Mutable Instruments' Ripple filter. The LP4 of the Ripple goes to a channel on a MI Veils VCA. The VCA envelope comes from an ADSR channel on Peaks. The envelope is gated from the A198 module. Ripples is modulated from a MI Tides. The square wave of the TH555 is PWM from the random voltage from a Doepfer A-119 noise source. A Frequency Central Ultrawave modulates the waveshape on the Z3000 via a RYO Airtenuator.

A bit a departure for me. This is an attempt to transfer a classical guitar piece over to the modular synth. The main module used was Mutable Instruments Braids running in Pluck mode.

The piece chosen was Gaspar Sanz's Canarios as it looked a relatively simple piece. Because I could oly run my synth in monophonic the the midi file I had was then spilt up into 6 midi track so that chords could be played. Each track being recorded separately.
The first attempt was made just using the Yarns Midi to CV interface and Braids. This proved not to be so good. So I then added Peaks in ADSR mode a Ripple filter in Band pass mode for all but the bass tracks where I used low pass. Veils provided the VCA.

This started as an experiment an Ableton Live Operator Synth patch based on a description found on the Sound on Sound website.

Operator generated the background drone. The audio from the drone was then processed using reverb and ping pong delay effects and a new track generated. This track was then processed though a send channel with Glitch machines Fracture plugin. The audio from this was recorded to provide the glitchy sounds through out the track. The glitch track was duplicated and using lives warp capablities transposed by 3 octaves to gie the strange vocal sounding effects.
