Tribute To Gully_A Pioneer of Perth Breakbeat

Here it is! My tribute to the late, great John Rodgers aka DJ Gully. One of, if not THE pioneer of the breakbeat sound in Perth, He was kicking around long beforehand, but I first experienced his skills in the very early days (late 2000) of Ambar and I can honestly say that my love of breaks or breakbeat is a result of him displaying a unique blend of what at the time was an incredibly fresh, underground, yet dancefloor friendly sound.

Did I know that 13 years later I would still be obsessed and so heavily involved in this style of music? Most definitely not! So with his untimely passing I felt compelled to pay tribute to him and the musical education he instilled upon me that brought me to this time and place. His "Backbeat" night, initially at Ambar, and later at Bar Open played a pivotal role in the development of the scene and culture here in Perth and gave a break, pardon the pun, to many of the people who are now household names around town.
