I tried to stay away from some of the more well know stuff and present a collections of songs that I have loved for a long time and for the most part have never used on a mix before. Some will argue that some tracks are trance or techno or deep or whatever. To me its all House music.
Its perfectly summed up in the closing track on this mix.

The subject matter for this mix was dystopia. Something that sounds like a future but is still discernibly house music.

The spoken intro from 2001: A Space Odyssey gets us going it peaks in the middle with a great Danny Howells and Kraftwerk combo AME, Pryda, Maceo Plex, Moonwalk give this mix a real futuristic feel.

So there are lots of references to robots and early on there are lots of house beats but it goes more spacey and proggy about 40 minutes in. I hope you enjoy my dystopia.

I manage to find a space for big acts from my life such as the Rolling Stones, Heaven 17, New Order, The Beatles and Giorgio Moroder. I hope you enjoy it!

We all had to start with the Tour De France theme and take the journey from there. No surprises that this mix contains liberal splashes of Alain Braxe, Daft Punk, Fantom and other luminaries of the french touch era alongside those who where heavily influenced like Peter Heller's seminal 'Big Love'.

A mix from a long time ago that I previously thought lost! I put together this mix for my friends to emulate the sound of a club night called Nasty Dirty Sex Music that was enjoying huge success at Ministry of Sound and Ibiza in 2005. It all sounded very fresh when Tim Sheridan was playing it in 05 but as fun as this mix is, it probably sounded dated by the time I finished it!

The mixing itself is a little rough but it didn't matter so much with this kind of music at the time. It was more about the energy and the big sound around at the time. Using mostly vinyl and one CDJ the tracks were mostly bought from Juno or the record shop. This mix was recorded in the back bedroom in Billericay.

So lets go back to when Electro House was en vouge! The best song on the mix is Humate - Breed and the most embarrassing is probably Coburn 'We interrupt this programme'.

This was done for my friends and any promoters than needed to hear my sound, recorded on vinyl decks in deepest Essex this mix reflected a winter spend in The Egg and Ministry of Sound. It was just after I started DJing live in a side room in at Drum and Bass nights near Clerkenwell.

It starts with a stone cold classic which reflects the amount of after parties and carry ons I was indulging in at the time. The best song on the mix is 'The sky was pink' by Nathan Fake and the most embarrassing is probably Coburn 'Sugarlips'.

The Mix is me experimenting with "my sound" to fit the theme and explore different style of music they wouldn't necessarily get to play. More importantly the peer perspective helps people like me stop endlessly fiddling with the same tracks and be more productive.
In early 2016 we looked at doing a mix in tribute to someone who had been lost in the first quarter of that year. Litte did we know so many legendary figures would go on to pass on that year.

I didn't enjoy this round. The theme made it quite difficult to enjoy the mix but the highlight was definitely my edit of Justice 'Civilisation', BUT I would say that.

This mix as part of a group called DJ Mix Club. It was recorded on Traktor from the front room in South Ealing and follows a theme set by the group. The Mix is me experimenting with "my sound" to fit the theme and explore different style of music they wouldn't necessarily get to play. More importantly the peer perspective helps people like me stop endlessly fiddling with the same tracks and be more productive.

This was my first recorded mix in a long time! I was very nervous to share it as doing mixes used to be such a long and drawn out process with vinyl that it was a case of putting everything into it. It is now easier to do technically but with children it is more a case of finding the time and energy. Either way I felt a bit rusty and self conscious.

Therefore the most embarrassing track was my track 'Joyride'. Just because it was the first time it had ever been heard! Bet track as always the classic 'At Les' by Carl Craig (and Christian Smith).

The best track on this is Hercules Love Affair - Blind the Frankie Knuckles remix. Such a brilliant track. I was DJing a lot at impromptu afters around this time. I was still going out. Mainly to Turnmills or the End followed by The Egg. This was a real labor of love and I'm still very proud of it.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as I did putting it together

Another on from the vaults. This time its the hottest sounds of 2005! This mix was done in Billericay on vinyl. I am very happy with it and it was my promoter CD for a long time. I gave it out to my mates and there are some tracks on here that I am pleasantly surprised that they are on a mix of mine. I am very pleased to have been able to find this mix again and I would recommend listening to it on a summers day.

I was going out to The End and out in Liverpool at Garlands and G-bar a lot at this point, I even went to Creamfields this year which explains why this mix has so much funky house on it. But believe it or not David Guetta still had an element of credibility at this point SO in a very rare way the track by him isn't the most embarrassing part of this. That honour goes to the Audio Bullies track. Whereas looking back the highlight for me is the 'Smoked out' and 'Avalon' mix which surely needs to be given a facelift for the future house generation.

Anyway enjoy!

I enoyed doing it as it has a lot of similarities to the trance sound I grew up with. This mix includes the man himself with a huge track called 'Mongoose' and some very recognisable names like Andy Cato from Groove Armada, Guys J and Gerber with a Maceo Plex track in there too. The final track by Cassius is a classic piece of french house with now iconic vocal performance by Steve Edwards. This particular mix of 'Sound of Violence' is provided by another familiar name from the early 2000s Narcotic Thrust.

Rob Gray is a music historian and philosopher. He started off his musical educaton in deepest darkest Essex and was a mainstay in mid-noughties the London dance scene. Originally a fan of guitar music he became interested in electronic through nineties trance and went on to support dance luminaries such as Seb Fontaine.
His palette is eclectic but he is often to be found singing word for word classics of the New York, Chicago, pop, soul and Disco ouvres. Rob's sound mixes the new and old whilst always respecting the music.
Tracks were mainly bought from Juno and Beatport and the highlights are the excellent 'Exceeder' by Mason now more often heard with Princess Superstar over the top. This version is much better! With Satoshi Tomie, Chab, Morel and Kings of Tomorrow I dare anyone who went clubbing around this time to not feel misty eyed at at least something on this mix.
So let step back in time to hear the hottest sounds of 2006!
