(Of course Tom Waits hasn't done half the stuff he writes about either, but that's by the by).
I also got the name of the song from a roundabout confluence of various half remembered ideas. Tahoe, to me, seemed like the place that people went to. In my head I had it that Johnny Cash had a song about Tahoe.
In reality Johnny Cash had a song (Folsom Prison Blues) which includes the line "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die). Turns out that I was thinking of the Krusty The Klown parody where he says he "slugged some jerk in Tahoe".
