ROBIN KAMPSCHOER – BEFORE THE STORM EP
[STUDIO SOULROCK | STUDIOS008]

TRACKLISTING:

The studio appears to be on fire with yet another Soulrock Studio debutant. Tapping once again from the seemingly endless pool of well known Dutch artists, the Amsterdam based imprint presents a four tracker by Robin Kampschoer, with a remix by none other than Sandrien as an added bonus. Kampschoer’s renowned for using analogue synths and drum machines, so it should come as no surprise that he uses his impressive studio gear on this vinyl release. He delivers demure, yet fierce floorbangers: serious music accompanied with a subtle smile!

A1. ROBIN KAMPSCHOER – PROVEN DEEP

Proven Deep gets under your skin through a gritty vibe, both indoctrinating and thrilling as it lingers on. A very sophisticated, minimal influenced production, which steers well clear of the clinical coldness, often associated with digital workstations. At the same time dub influences, reminiscent of Basic Channel, can be heard. Clearly establishing a unique sound, Kampschoer remains true to himself, a feat sought after by many but achieved by few. Proven craftsmanship; a true pièce de résistance.

A2. ROBIN KAMPSCHOER – PROVEN DEEP (SANDRIEN REMIX)

Apart from making her debut on Soulrock, this is also Sandrien’s first vinyl-released remix. Living up to her reputation as Amsterdams undisputed techno queen, she turns the original into a tremendous dj-weapon. Grade A floorfilling techno which somehow, in spite of its uncompromising characteristics, never seems to lose the warmth more often associated with house. Highly recommended!

B1. ROBIN KAMPSCHOER – ULTRA DEEP FIELD

Ultra Deep – a collaboration with Devon Miles - realizes its hidden promise of an incredibly spacious, echo-infused touch. While melancholy looms around the corner, you’re almost drowning in it as some seriously upbeat four-to-the-floor swings in to save the day, effectively sending shivers down your spine. This mature masterpiece subtly wraps it tentacles around your attention span, simply refusing to let go.

B2. ROBIN KAMPSCHOER – BEFORE THE STORM

Instilling audiences with a sense of impending gloom, the title track delivers a worthy ending to this EP. The ominous rhythm subdues you further into a certain ill-at-ease feeling. Something is amiss yet you can’t put your finger on it… Until you suddenly become conscious of what’s happened: You have been swept away by this electrifying music without even realizing it.
