Lindeni Mongi Mthembu is a young upcoming DJ reigning from a small village in the Manzini Region called Mafutseni. Known as Forbes behind the Decks. He went to an all boys school his whole primary and secondary academic life. With boys around all the time, sports, tv and music were the main forms of entertainment. With the music, he started listening to hip hop and R n B with the influence of his auntie and his big brother Phesheya Mthembu.

When he got to do his form 1 (2009), he met most of the people that influenced his love for deep house music. The house music bug actually bit him when he met Sibonginkhosi Dlamini (Sga) who had been downloading a track by Miza. The sing took the whole day to download as back then the internet was slow. The track got him and he fell in love with the sound right then.

Whilst in high school, he met other deep house cats that further influenced his passion for music thus deciding to become a DJ. The likes of Smanga, Chox, Joshua, Sisanda, Msakrie, Deebao, Fantasy, Lil D, Bisto, Reke, Nconco, The Scientists, the Groove Meditation Sessions gang and many more cats helped to influence his passion for music during his high school years (2009-2014).

When he enrolled for his Associate Degree in Events Management at Limkokwing University (2015) he decided to take his passion for music to another level by attending more house music shows around the country in order to eventually learn how to Disk Jockey. This gave him an opportunity to meet some of the most influential DJs in the country, the likes of Tibza, Jazzinsoul, Ipileng, Felix, Sgegedze, Master Jack, Katz, Kuru, Bloss, Yugo, Smish, ZuluD, and many more other cats. With the help of most mainly Jazzinsoul, Kuru and ZuluD he was able to get the opportunity to play at their shows and master the craft of being a DJ. This has given much experience to him over the years and he continues to learn.
His advocacy for alternative music runs way back to the early 90s when he rocked his Primary School classmates to the sounds of the Underground at Malkerns Valley Primary School in the early 90s.
A stranger not on the Ol’Tymers Session Family having previously done show 49.

His love for music hails from the ancient days of his childhood with a wide range of collection in terms of musical genres n sub-genres.

Offlate a lot has been happening in terms of our well being and musical being (musical politics, death of the greatest producers etc.) with the latest being the current situation the world is exposed and subjected to (COVID-19) error.

But again You know they’re times where before One says something You gotta think hard and deep.

Because there’s a great possibility it’s a reflection of either the psych, the mentality, the character and the person or it reflects a bit of background.

And for fear of exposing where You come from,
You gotta think twice and consider perspectives.

But again greatest philosophers usually
say
‘When words fail music speaks and it usually speaks in volumes’

And for that reason this selection will just relay the message and further express our emotions on behalf of Us as human beings based on the current situations we exposed to.
So this is a live recording from the Back View Chillout that happened on the 25th of July 2020, we hope you enjoy.

Kgotso Jack Maluleke was born and raised in Soweto (Chiawelo), he had his first hand experience at dee-jaying in 2003 using turntables, his first love has always been Kwaito. Speed Garage and International music. As modern day technology made it’s way to the streets he was then introduced to the use of cdjs in 2007 which lead him to explore a whole lot more musically.

It was at this point that his music catalogue began to evolve to different genres such as South African Jazz, Nu Jazz, RnB, Neo Soul, Fusion, Hip Hop, Bossa Nova, Samba, Tri Hop, Drum n Bass, Deep & Soulful House etc… which has now become his solitude or sweet escape. He considers himself an edutainer that’s willing to turn the atmosphere into your oyster, it is safe to say that Jackass is a well seasoned musical genius.

He is passionate about his potential crowd, open mindedness and how free spirited he is, when it comes to music Jackass knows no limits and is always trying to break boundaries. He personally feels that track selection, mixing and blending are a definite must, this way you will certainly get to understand what he is all about.

He founded a movement known as Deep Orgasm Podcast in 2011 and the main aim of this podcast was to give birth to new music and provide platform tounknown deejays/producers and it is self explanatory in the name itself, Deep Orgasm Podcast had been consistent for 5 years straight and Jackass then went on a 2 year hiatus which was much needed, in this space he took the time to regroup, re-channel and rebrand.

His love and passion for dee-jaying was mostly influenced by Dj Fresh/Monde/Bubbles/Christos/Kid Fonque and his love for radio was motivated by Khabzela/Greg Maloka during the early years of YFM (1997) hence the birth of Deep Orgasm Podcast and the ever evolving deejay that we know him to be.

His motivation is simply shaped by the hunger to stay consistent and constantly take his crowd on a journey with every set he plays. If you seek versatility Jackass is certainly the man for the job.

Born and raised in the city of Mbabane, Swaziland, Master-Jack real name Sakhile Mkhumane became fascinated by deep house music at a very young age.

Master-Jack has over the years been known for his nice solid selection of deep house tracks and a marvel to watch behind the decks. He has proved to be one of the best in the land with his unique selection of sounds & craft. This young spinner has shared stages with some of the best in the land from the likes of Secret Souls[Antidote Music], !Sooks [DeepStitched] to mention a few.

He has got his inspiration from both local and international DJs from the likes of DJ Mseto(SD), Jazzinsoul(SD), Kuru(SD), Vinny Da Vinci (SA), Blackcoffee (SA) an DJ Christos (SA) to mention but a few. Deep house music, Jazz music, Blues, Lounge, NuDisco and RNB have over the years played a huge role in helping me understand what music does to one’s soul thus I saw the need for me to venture into the deep house scene of music as this is the kind of music that has a very strong meaning and when selected appropriately, it touches one’s soul. Music has always been one thing that kept me going when everything else was on pause and that is one other aspect that contributed to me wanting to be a Disc Jockey.
He is also co-founder of the respectable growing movement known as Helmet Cracker Movement [HCM]; alongside fellow spinners and friends Simphiwe Simmy, Glenn Hobbs, and Mojaki Ratsoe.

Carter started to develop interest in the art of DJ'ing sometime around 2011, although it wasn't until another 2 years he actually got behind the decks. Furthermore, even though hes gotten quite familiar with his way around the decks, hes still yet to accommodate himself with playing for a crowd; hes still finds it a bit peculiar to his nature. In summary, theres not much to say about Carter's play in the field just yet.

Carter draws his inspiration from his fellow HCM selectors, as well as other local movements and selectors within his relative universe; it is quite a long list.

Only a few Djs in the South African house music industry reach the level of accomplishment and status that Kanunu has achieved. He is known throughout South Africa as the best record salesman and DJ from the legendary and largest house music distributor in Africa called House Afrika Records (South Africa).

Kanunu grew up in the Pretoria area during the days of the infamous Club Gemini and Cherries in Pretoria where resident DJ Vinny Da Vinci was breaking the tunes. This young man is from an Atteridgeville (Pretoria/South Africa) typical music loving family, which gave him a rich music background in the origins of the Pretoria Sound that is influenced by Jazz music. He made His club debut at Ellesse in Sunnyside, Pretoria but his first gig was at a friend’s birthday bash in 1995 just after he Matriculated. Kanunu eventually found himself intrigued with the sales element in House music and soon began to work at House Afrika Records joining the in-house team made of Tim White, Vinny Da Vinci, Christos and the late Iggy Smallz.

In 2004, House Afrika Records featured his debut single, "African Shebeen" on a compilation named Mzanzi house. Despite his success, Kanunu has always remained true to the spirit of the underground. When listening to tracks he choose on his compilation CDs he has put together such as the "Wicked Sounds Mid-Tempo 1", “House Afrika 1”,’We Love Buzzin’ Fly’ and the current ‘Hot Grooves Experience 2’, one has to marvel at Kanunu's ability to not compromise his unique sound for commercial gain. Kanunu has developed a massive following through his participation in subsequent other House Afrika Djs solo projects.

He has quickly become South Africa’s most beloved DJ, mostly for his talents, but also because of his outlook with natural delivery and also about having been a resident in the legendary clubs Ellesse and Carnalita , Pretoria and having a House Afrika Records tag on his face. He trust to keep pushing the boundaries in house music for a long time to come.

Mlungisi Mlambo, (aka God Blue), born in Pietermaritzburg, and studied tertiary education at University of Durban Westville, now UKZN and subsequently became a lawyer by profession.

As I grew up being exposed into different kind of music it became apparent that I was in love with this form of art, but then you cannot master all talents.

Its unfortunate that I could not sing, even though I was surrounded by whole lot of great chorister relatives, family and friends. This made it clear that I appreciated already done form of art which is music.

Despite my demanding choice of career I have not neglected the fact that music heals and admit that I am captured since I became aware of this form and its associates.
I used to collect music compilation as I grew up. In those compilations I realised that even if it were popular songs that pushed me to buy but I have always had a soft spot for less likened songs other than one usually played by commercial radios or becoming hits of compilations. I really liked to pick songs that never received easy attention of masses. Unfortunately I started noting compilations featuring same songs and artist, then I realised I needed to explore something else. This led to me wanting to collect single tracks. Look out for producers and label records behind my specific interests.

It is safe to mention that the above habit was not new, since I liked to know more about something I have been introduced. I have a lot of family, friends that love music so that has widened my exposure to the kind of music I have found myself in. I had an uncle who used to collect lovely records, Mxolisi who has since passed, may his soul rest in peace. He used to collect a lot of soul, funk and well as those mbaqanga songs which were popular around their times, consequently got introduced to Ten City, Bee Gees, Roberta Flack, Ashford and Simpsons etc, just to mention few.

His music collection heightened by interest of music so it was never the end of a story as also at times when visiting relatives, my other relatives, I got to learn of other kind s of music.
Then above all I have brother, cousins and nieces who have so much love of music that has shaped my interests. I have found myself an all rounder of music.
Then I also have some of my crazy friends I have met through other interest but also connected through music and regard them as part of my musical journey by being part of my shaping in this form of art, I would like to mention Nsizwa, Mtoffy, Jiks, Timon Pumba, June, Trev the Japanese, Sphe, Gazie, this is not exhaustive.

I am used to collecting and play the music varying from House, Soul, RnB, Neosoul, Trip Hop Old Skool, Jazz, nujazz, soul, funk, lounge and probably everything that flirt with my ear.
There comes a time when I was drawn into eevents, what was brainstorm of late friend, brother and a partner Mdu ( Shibru May his Soul Rest in Peace) realised the love of music we had and we looked at what can we do differently as opposed to masses clubbing then, and we identified deephouse and outdoor lifestyle as an under explored, so we started doing picnic events focused at this but when we were not doing events, my love for other kinds of good music got me interested to collect and relax with other sounds that have sought of become prevalent for my liking.

IT is the same sound that introduced me to some of like minded friends, they started referring to me as collector, until I met Trev the Japanese, who then encouraged me to play in gigs as a collector, I have played in Avant Garde, Global Select and some highly respected events. I have also played along Rich Medina, Jazz & Milk, Jazzinsoul as a opening collector
I do believe that I was born with taste of music I like in me, and every music journey I take I just get to cloud nine. Music heals me when I feel down, or I am overwhelmed.
When I go to events, I like the opening features of that gig provided its something that I like.
I never used to make tapes until recently when Jazzinsoul insisted that I make a mix for Ol Tymers and the rest is history.

I used to like to play for my few friends when we have something or we are chilling but then some of people that have met me through music have asked that I do them mixes, something I didn’t take seriously until recently when Jazzinsoul insisted on doing a mix for Ol Tymers Session.

Now we are here, but at times it is difficult to keep up with this hobby due to demanding needs of my work and life, but I haven’t abandoned or have such intentions in the near future
Simmy, Real Name Simphiwe, is a music collector that emerges from the streets of Johannesburg. His love for deep house journeys way back to when he first started collecting deep house records.

Simmy is also part of a Music Troupe with three other members (Tshidiso Makoti, Rhulane Glenn Hobyani & Mojaki Ratsoe), they go by Helmet Cracker Movement (HCM) and their handle is known as #HelmetCracker. The Troupe consists of not only enthusiastic spinners, but also potential producers/artist and a writer. With HCM Simmy is able to expand his reach as a young spinner across the country and possibly the globe; The Helmet Cracker Movement Troupe release monthly podcast on Podomatic, which is known and recommended by many DJs and artists around the world.

As a growing spinner, Simmy has a handful of mentors and muses; each having their own style. Because of this, Simmy is able to learn different types of music that the world would like to hear. It is within this journey that Simmy found himself expand his selection from House Music to other genres such as Jazz, Lounge, Trip Hop, Soul & Afro Beat to name a few.
