The radioactive fallout and the sound of an emergency horn leads into the long and delayed time of awaiting, incertitude and progressing decay which leave us in the aftermath of exposure, destruction and the unsuccessful attempts of unaware human beings to fight with the consequences of the unknown. Long, flooded corridor, attended by fire-fighters is now soaked with water and extinguisher substances which encapsulates danger as a cocoon among the post-industrial remains.
After the climax of the screaming textures, the fallout of gentle percussive patterns emerges invoking a dream-like vision. Shot in Alexandra Gardens in Melbourne in the summer 2010 (November).
I was waiting for my exam rehearsal in the Victorian College of the Arts and as being too early (as usual) I decided to take few shots of my surroundings with a video camera.
My inquisitiveness took me through a short but very revealing journey through the "micro-cosmos" discovered along the 100 steps walk through the park.

The initial idea evolved around basic visual material to serve as a conceptual "brain-food" for my music. To some extend I could call it a video clip.
The music/soundtrack features french horn, trumpet, celesta, marimba, string and woodwind sections, voices and few electronic "gizmos" :) ...
Harmonically it is based on whole-tone scale and modal gestures.

In essence - this work is a tribute to the ocean in the glass of water, to the forest in the flower pot, the dramas and dilemmas of hard working critters of our outdoors etc :)

The idea of this sound appealed to me for the first time when recording an experimental soundtrack for a short film - "The Journey" (soundtrack nominated to the "Best Soundtrack Album 2013" by Screen Australia/APRA - better luck next time...) - basically humming/singing into the tin whistle while playing it. Chaotic interference of air and sound waves is always bringing fresh results - no two takes are identical! This library captures that sonic experience: fragile, imperfect yet persistently sustained sound!
Haunted border-lining with comical. Industrial yet spiritual. Ugly yet beautiful.
