Celebrating 20 years, Thomas Urv and Miss Mostly’s PLOINK imprint drops the first in a trilogy of techno releases featuring the Norwegian brand’s core artists.

“We started out as a techno club concept in rock/art/student venues in April 1996 following years of promoting parties in warehouses, old factories, as well as outside in the woods, mountains and fjord-islands
around Bergen,” explains Thomas Urv.
“Since then PLOINK has presented a long list of international artists to clubnights around Norway to share the stage with upcoming local talent.”
“In spring 2014 we evolved into a label and have released nine EPs to date, all with Norwegian techno producers. Our main goal, apart from having fun, is to push Norwegian techno talent abroad.”

The package inaugurates with Oslo’s Prins Thomas editing Tromsø legend Mental Overdrive ‘Hellbent’ for a decadent cut featuring sinister drones and dusky atmospherics. Urhaug, also known under his house alias Tobii, demonstrates tantalising melodies and a chugging bassline in ‘7,3’ before PLOINK veteran Nordenstam takes things into a rhythmic direction in ‘Haustfarger using shuffling percussion, bouncy toms and spectral synths.
Christian Tilt, another core PLOINK member, then drops the mesmerising ‘Ord’ boasting industrial stabs, a throbbing low-end and cosmic effects.
Tying it all together, fresh Bergen talent Hutmacher concludes the release with a cacophony of grooves, samples and echoes in an arcane number named ‘Dobbeltganger’.

Anonymous duo Vakum returns to the PLOINK imprint with a medley of techno cuts featuring a remix from label founder Thomas Urv.
PLOINK has been throwing parties in its homeland of Norway for over two decades now, showcasing some of the finest techno talents both nationally and internationally. Last year saw the
launch of their imprint, which has now hosted the likes of Nordenstam, Christian Tilt, Kahuun and label founder Thomas Urv, not to mention the mysterious duo Vakum who now return to the label for the second time.
Diving straight into a cacophony of sounds, ‘Knot’ combines tantalising arpeggios and echoing atmospherics before fading out into a suspenseful - minute and a half - breakdown. ‘Frænin’ then unloads a syncopated beat as metallic stabs operate alongside subtle whirrs, with ‘Giraff’ up next its ghostly pads and a sinister lead synth. Thomas Urv’s rendition of ‘Knot’ focuses more on a low-end, chugging along in mesmerising fashion until an ambient and otherworldly finale comes in the form of ‘Knot Is Not Knot’.

Setting up a label branch has for years been a buried, old plan. To us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.
We released three EP’s in 2014 and have all of 2015 lined up with lots of great techno from producers around our local scene and beyond.

CHRISTIAN TILT
Christian Tilt is one of Bergen’s underground classics - a true player, in music as well as the skirts - hide your sisters.
For nearly 20 years he has been one of the main forces keeping the west coast underground parties outside, promoting, djing and performing live in the amazing nature of our hometown.
He has toured clubs and festivals of Norway and is known for his tight and enticing drum beats. He excel in those mystical techno landscapes that are gradually revealed to the listener. Storytelling by rhythms.
We’re happy to say that we have heard countless incredible tracks in his laboratory, which gives the promise of a long techno career in the works!

TILTED EP
Christiant’s debut on PLOINK, the PL004NK TILTED EP, is a four tracker that certainly live up to his reputation.
Its a bulldozer of a release. In fact, we should have called it Bulldozer EP. Oh well.
A-side “Scenario” and “Red Head” are both pumping techno tracks, each with their unique signature.
The B-side’s “This is Acid” is a floor pleaser that stay true to its claim by adding a hint of that lovely 303 flavor to the new year, while “Unfocused” provides the opportunity to visit places of imagination.

Tilted indeed.

Nordenstam is a true a legend in Bergen.
One foot firmly planted deep underground after countless hardware liveshows that is his trademark. The other foot pure soundgeek material as mastering honcho of Norway. Since his early teens he has built, perfected, destroyed and fixed devices that goes BLEEP, SWOOOOSH and OMKHIPPUMPH. He has played gigs on top of mountains, on distant islands and in deep forests, often dangerously moist for the equipment. And he offers mastering service for all kinds of music, designs studios for other mastering engineers around the world and has written more nerdness about the mathematics of sound than we care to read. The sounds speaks for themselves. He has numerous releases behind him as well, through labels such as Sex Tags, Wania and Draug.

His Acid Over Danmarksplass from PL001NK was a classic favourite of ours that we just had to release even though he wrote it over a decade ago.
With PL003NK though he invites us into the realm of his two more recent masterpieces; Her Vil Jeg Være and Viddenatt. As always with Nordenstam,
All his compositions are performed live in his studio without any post editing of any kind. He records the take in one go, we send the recording to Dubplates & Mastering who cuts the laquer and it eventually ends up on wax on your turntable. All very hands on.

Both tracks pay hommage to the classic style of the epic, storytelling techno. The monster of Her Vil jeg Være twists its core, insisting scary thoughts, whilst Viddenatt takes you way into deep mountains of snow & claciers, politely asking you to please enjoy the view.
Throughout, we never loose touch of Nordenstams mind controlling his many strange machines through every curve of the tracks.

Where did his love for machines come from? We don't know, though perhaps the EP artwork provides a suggestion, as the young woman operating the mystical machine years ago is in fact his late mother.

We just really like techno.
Setting up a label branch has for years been a burried, old plan. To us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.
We’ll find out where it takes us.

Nordenstam is a true a legend in Bergen.
One foot firmly planted deep underground after countless hardware liveshows that is his trademark. The other foot pure soundgeek material as mastering honcho of Norway. Since his early teens he has built, perfected, destroyed and fixed devices that goes BLEEP, SWOOOOSH and OMKHIPPUMPH. He has played gigs on top of mountains, on distant islands and in deep forests, often dangerously moist for the equipment. And he offers mastering service for all kinds of music, designs studios for other mastering engineers around the world and has written more nerdness about the mathematics of sound than we care to read. The sounds speaks for themselves. He has numerous releases behind him as well, through labels such as Sex Tags, Wania and Draug.

His Acid Over Danmarksplass from PL001NK was a classic favourite of ours that we just had to release even though he wrote it over a decade ago.
With PL003NK though he invites us into the realm of his two more recent masterpieces; Her Vil Jeg Være and Viddenatt. As always with Nordenstam,
All his compositions are performed live in his studio without any post editing of any kind. He records the take in one go, we send the recording to Dubplates & Mastering who cuts the laquer and it eventually ends up on wax on your turntable. All very hands on.

Both tracks pay hommage to the classic style of the epic, storytelling techno. The monster of Her Vil jeg Være twists its core, insisting scary thoughts, whilst Viddenatt takes you way into deep mountains of snow & claciers, politely asking you to please enjoy the view.
Throughout, we never loose touch of Nordenstams mind controlling his many strange machines through every curve of the tracks.

Where did his love for machines come from? We don't know, though perhaps the EP artwork provides a suggestion, as the young woman operating the mystical machine years ago is in fact his late mother.

Following PL001NK the four-artist compilation BERGEN EP released this august, we are now proud to present our second release, PL002NK, the debut EP of the anonymous act VAKUM.
We frankly haven’t got much to write about VAKUM as they insist on letting their music speak for itself, refusing any comment or question, or even talking to us directly. After some preasure though, they sent us a series of unsettling photos, (see www.ploink.no), indicating that VAKUM is in fact a duo!
Their first ever released track, View To A Thousand Crows from PL001NK was just one of several hard hitting tracks they have sent us. We have so much been looking forward to present more of their material.
We can only speculate on how the assumed duo’s debut concert will turn out. VAKUM will perform live at the releaseparty for PL002NK at Østre in Bergen, Norway october 4th..

Our definition of the genre is fairly wide though, constantly evolving, which we have attempted to reflect in this our first release, compiling four very different tracks by local producers from our hometown of Bergen.

Setting up a label branch has for years been a burried, old plan. To us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.

Christian Tilt
Christian is one of the major forces in the Bergen underground since the 90s, djing, promoting parties and producing delicious treats.
Until now he has concentrated on his numerous legendary live sets, postponing releases.
No longer. His heavyweight LUDDRETTE marks the beginning of a vast arsenal of tracks to be spread out!

Thomas Urv
PLOINK’s founder, resident dj and co-labelbossss.
Thomas has mainly been cutting & scratching ever since he bought his decks at 14 in 1990. Still deeply dedicated to the touch of vinyl, he has finally found his way into the studio. He serves a dish of acidic techno funk, HUTIHEITEN.

Vakum
Oldschool DAT tapes are mysteriously delivered at our door by different kids. And we don’t mean kids like 16-18year olds, but actual small children. They also cary disturbing dolls.
We like the tracks though. Like this synthdriven VIEW TO A THOUSAND CROWS.
Look out for PL002NK, a three track 12” due in october, from the male or female talent that is Vakum, a solo act, band or nudist collective.

Nordenstam
One of those rare sound equipment and mastering geeks who has built and fingered strange hardware since before he could spell. He learnt how to spell at a very young age.
Nordenstam tracks have previously appeared on creamy labels such as Sextags, Vinyl on Wania, WTC as well as numerous compilations and digital releases under different aliases. ACID OVER DANMARKSPLASS pays homage to the mighty Danmarksplass and what lies within.
