Compose songs as well.
I usually take great

It also
Conveys a message.
I have been
Influenced by many artists,

People
Mostly

Steely Dan, King Crimson,
Weather Report, Duran Duran, Jimi
Hendrix, Roxy Music, Tower of Power,
Gentle Giant, James Brown, Primus
Ian Dury

how is that for a salad?
That is not to say
That
I try to
Mimic them, the
Influences just
Sneak up on me when
I am not paying attention.
I play in projects with

These are mostly
Soul & funk based,
But I can mostly find a way in
Rock, jazz and folk

Fruit (ground my feet)

For decades in a row
I’ve been Withering the ground
My skin is badly scarred
And grass is all around
As many leaves have grown
But some were downed for plains
Razed to make some room
For ardent growing pains

For all tomorrow’s parties
Who rolled to pregnant ground,
Sing anthems to the crowds
That make a world go round
Here is what I wish
On my solid gravel bed
Ground my feet, please
Here is what I wish
For impervious contempt
Ground my feet
Somewhere else

I’m waiting for the day that
Somebody comes along
To boot me in the skin
And my inevitable spin
Might land on tender clay
Fifty feet away
Indifferent of the bruises
For he who lingers loses
To be tomorrow’s party
With roots in willing ground
Opportunities abound
And make a world go round

The song started with a project that I volunteered in, but I lost confidence in how it was being managed, so I quit. I am sorry that I felt that I had to, but it was all about a matter of insights that I didn't think could easily be mediated.

I still had my own recordings, so I then played the instruments that were still missing, and replaced some to avoid copyright tribulations.

So, that is also why I chose for the topic. I did remove the top, but took precaution to do this before it would self-ignite.
Play it Safe
A flask under pressure
with its drink gone to waste
The tension within
Nearly ready to spin
To the floor

Things that we say
Sink like flakes to the chime
To a sediment rhyme
Of a smothering snow fall
In a glass snow ball

It’s safer to not turn the top
It’s safer to not let it up
It’s safer to keep it all in
Or lie to get rid of it
At the end of the day
We might rasp what remains
From a bite in the bung
- Riposting of sorts
Into one of them

Incoming news
The cacophonous coze
The jibber jabber
In collusion with those
That have entered before
And are echoing still
That have entered before
And are echoing still

As the pavement deflects
Bouncing bickering noise
The flags on the wall
Show
The tiny and tall

In comes a wave
Of shows and parades
The roar of the mice
Often rashly displayed
But I’m looking for lights
Moving down in the shades
The temperate ones
The reticent ones

And caution
Not to step on them
Imagine your cheek
To be one of them</itunes:summary>

Sienna Little: lyrics and vocals

This is @Pleudoniem & @SiennaLittle's contribution to the Songwriter's Kitchen Challenge, the last one in 2019. Knowing that we work in very different ways and are used to very different styles, it was an arduous a task, and I hope you like the result. Sienna Little, who wrote and sang the lyric, chose to reflect on the idea that her baby girl, who is now still very little, will grow bigger. Will she then remember what it was like when the little Lady outgrows the baby stage?

The song has a jazzy feel and it is in 6/8.

I just couldn't help it. The lyric was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, Wordsworth, a bit by Robert Frost, and Coleridge, as they all spoke to me from the knots and the naughts in the planks in my studio. But admittedly, the magic words have a romantic flavour.

**The silence of the Crow
**
A song so quite mellifluous
(I was) dozing in the petrichor
A lilting morning dew
Horizoning my view

I loved this blissful reverie
That quintessential calm
The languor of seclusion

The dazzling daylight water
She spoke to me so sonorant
So redolent and pure
So honest and demure

As if she meant to say
Just hear this little lullaby
And sleep to it for evermore

And suddenly that crow
Caught my unsuspecting eye
Sudden like a phoenix
Ubiquitous but sly

Are you a secret harbinger
A ripple or some ogre
A gateway into Hades

Alluring as it was
It landed on the sand
And revelled in a snail
Cruelly finishing its tale

It looked so lithe and black
But eyes so strangely elegant,
A gossamer between us.

For want of an epiphany
Or furtive serendipity
I murmured at the critter
- It didn’t seem to bother
Tell me beast, is that your toy
The end of me, without a noise?
I’d been hoping for some more

Two minutes late

Time’s breaking six
So the shops shut their doors
On me.
I’m two minutes too late
For my groceries

Now she’s tapping her index
On the sign on the door
That reads
‘sorry, we’re closed’ very gallingly

I don’t have the voice
To curse at the girl
As I’m watching her act
Like a clip on my phone

And they're all in concord
It must be a collusion
Against modern day man
And they all dim their blue lights
A curt interruption
Of my modern day mind

My fingers have numbed
They just can’t swipe from the cold
Anymore.
This modern man scheme
Has now deeply invaded me

And captured my waldo
It must be the government
fiddling
And not just the season -
That freezes the lights

And I don’t have the drive
To curse at the monsters
My screen’s in a frenzy

Mural

Blades for a thought
Like a flickering flame
As the wall is a canvas
In an uncertain frame
Sweating colours and shapes
Indecisively made
Squeezing oil

The tale
As it’s now being told
The result of a broil
that is there to unfold

A turpentine flows
From repetitive strokes
Like a meroles feet
in the unbearable heat
As it runs for the shades
And colours the tracks
In impatient paroles
To the sun.

Talk to me ghosts
From the words that I wrote
On the faces of tiles
They’re like tags quickly sprayed
And their ink hasn’t dried
And I’m reading
And I’m barefoot

Talk to me ghosts
Talk to me ghosts

I’m hoping to find
Just that touch of the kind
That I might recognise
As a picture I’m in
Or somebody I know
Inconclusively so
Like a whispering foil

The shades
Make perpetual moves
They go where they please
In an absurdist show

The mural insists
That I now brush some shapes
Like a Peringuey’s swings
As the current she brings
To the dead sand
Adds a life to the bricks
In impatient paroles
To the sun

Lyrics, vocals and other good ideas by Oorlab

Oorlab was here to finish a little instrumental track that we'd been working on some time back. When I played him the music to 'The Rules Do Not Apply' - then as yet untitled and without a lyric, he felt inspired to write the lyric and sing to it.

In case you are wondering what it is about, well, when thinking about a subject, an interview in the Dutch weekend newspaper Volkskrant sprang to mind. Let's see if you can discover what inspired the lyric, and especially whose perspective we took to write it...

There's a wish from us to you
We know you went away
To Mongolia to save another day
What were you thinking?
The Rules Do Not Apply

You could give another interview
You could show another part of you
Tell us on the Internet
How your mind is really set

I know you so well
I know you, so...
Farewell
Farewell
Farewell

You know we wish you all the best
But we'll be honest with you
We hope you're honest to yourself
- You know we wish you all
the best...

You know you wrote it like a memory
Mary Shelly was a fantasy
Turned to an anomaly
Better than yourself

I know you so well
I know you, so...
Farewell
Oorlab was here to finish a little instrumental track that we'd been working on some time back. When I played him the music to 'The Rules Do Not Apply' - then as yet untitled and without a lyric, he felt inspired to write the lyric and sing to it.

In case you are wondering what it is about, well, when thinking about a subject, an interview in the Dutch weekend newspaper Volkskrant sprang to mind. Let's see if you can discover what inspired the lyric, and especially whose perspective we took to write it...

There's a wish from us to you
We know you went away
To Mongolia to save another day
What were you thinking?
The Rules Do Not Apply

You could give another interview
You could show another part of you
Tell us on the Internet
How your mind is really set

I know you so well
I know you, so...
Farewell
Farewell
Farewell

You know we wish you all the best
But we'll be honest with you
We hope you're honest to yourself
- You know we wish you all
the best...

You know you wrote it like a memory
Mary Shelly was a fantasy
Turned to an anomaly
Better than yourself

I know you so well

Lyrics and vocals: Kellie Rowley
All the instruments & composition: Pleudoniem

Bluebird was a spontaneous Rowley rave to a piece of music written by Pleudoniem. Europeans may not know the bird, as it does not live there, but especially in the Southern states of the USA, it is a symbol of luck and happiness. The latter two words is what the lyric hooks into. Now just dance and ponder, and be happy.

Blue Bird

Blue Bird, Blue Bird
Transition
Alarm
Follow the eternal path
Follow the internal path

Up over the horizon
Fickle emotions won’t stick
Here high above the terrain
Of the mundane
Sustain chord
Set in resin
Plasma of God

Blue Bird, blue bird

Crystalline armor
Covers and emits colors
A future hope carries weight
Like a feather free

Responsibility for your own intent
Recognize the truth behind your illness
Change your hair
Change your mind
Guard your heart
Guard your time
Give love without remorse
not for the sake of guilt by confliction
Not but for the sake of inner harmony
For the sake of inner harmony
Minds spew vitriol
But there is no fragrance there
For the ones awake
And mostly awake
Hamper down the frequencies that dissipate
Disperse into matter
Mal intent is not accepted

Blue Bird, Blue Bird
Transition
Alarm
Follow the internal path
Elephant Road

Seven to eleven
in a pretty state
winter wind is blowing
but we'll navigate

pointing out the polar
stick a shadow here
it's a kind of knowing
that we could do without

Pacing down
the elephant road
catching songs,
for elephant moods

If your name was Martin
you could raise the price
Sipping from your shizzle
Sailing up to Paradise

Clouding up my window, it's
Hard to sleep at night
Their buzzing wakes me up
-... so does the city light

Mosquitos keep on bugging
our welfare state
impossible to crush
Let alone exterminate

Wave at the clouds
And make them rain for you
Look at the birds
Their wings should be yours
Even from your sofa
Where you sit to blind the sun
The trampling of the bulls
Fades away the news

This is a lost and found song. Dan wrote this song many months ago. He shared it with Kellie. She completed it and then they were not quite sure what happened next. One thing led to another and it got lost amid their hectic daily lives.

It sat around for many months. The one day Kellie looked at her computer and saw it again. She sent it to Dan and asked him if he remembered it. He listened and remembered having heard it before. Beyond that, neither of them has any recollection of what had happened to the song.

They then completed it and posted it for your listening pleasure. It apparently had been among the lost and found, like a diary found in an old cardboard box in the attic.

Little did they know that their musical friend Pleudoniem listened to it as well, and that it inspired him to work further on it. He asked Rowley and Lockhart if he could add some of the ideas that had bloomed up, and they agreed.

So, here it is:

Idea and song composition, E-Guitar, E-Piano: Daniel Lockhart
Vocals, melody and lyrics: Kellie Rowley
Drum programming, bass guitar, funky guitar, pads: Pleudoniem

Lyrics:

GAME

Got cha run run running in circles Baby
Chasing the next thing
They got cha head filled up and all twisted
With the noise of all the false hope that they bring
They’d like to make you think they have the best in mind
For all the girls and the boys.
But you don’t have to play that game, you know it’s a runaround
You don’t have to play that game anymore

The world seems like it’s gone crazy and you just opened your eyes
To find the true things that matter have been disguised
For some it could be a nightmare but you get to choose
To hold on to the real life, the loving, the things that we can’t lose.

Chorus

Bridge
It’s hard enough to see the state of our reality
But its better than just surviving with this spirits malady
You want your freedom, well theres the door
Hey, you want your freedom, but tell me are you ready to live for more

Kellie's philosophical ponderings led her to compose a song on the guitar, and I had the honour to help her finish it musically. I couldn't possibly decline such a nice request :) By the way, has somebody already mentioned that we've been very productive lately?
Muck

There is much i can think of
That leads me in delusion
About the truth
To think of the truth
Only
Is a very hard thing to do
The truth is not just the failures,
It is the journey
(Tell yourself)
Whatever gets you by

Wasting away seems to be
Our allotment
To come to fruition
Has its downside
To feel like you never did
Is such a crying shame
Someone should have told me,
Told me it would be this way

Oh the muck
That sticks to the bottom of my foot
Oh the muck
That sticks to the borrom of my shoe
Oh the muck
That sticks to the bottom of soul.

Picture: cut from William Hogarth's Rake Progress, when the rake has ended up in Bedlam.

This is a song with a sad background. It is about somebody I know, who has been developing a personality disorder - a hereditary mishap, it appears. It's been a while since I last saw him, as I have taken a safe distance. I bear no grudge against him, I only feel regret and pity.

Kellie helped me out on this one as well, as she plays a wonderful nurse, much better than I could ever dream of. She'd make me swallow them myself...

Music, lyric and composition: Pleudoniem
Additional vocals and nursing: Kellie Rowley

Demon, Take the Blue One

Sometimes you return
On days I quite predict now, when
the demon's eating into you
Pegs inside your mind
It's squeezing out the blood
And tells you to redress
Satisfying ghosts

She had you in the flesh
Like mother like son
But wished you were the father,
The hermit in his chair
Unreachable
Untouchable
The thinker cast in sand
Lost inside his books

If I could look you in the eye
And ask how you were doing
Then tell me how to spot
The you you're in
The hand shake or the fist
The kind or the pissed
The bird or the burdened
Reverend or revenge

Cruel orgasmic need
When you text another line
The troll portrays a grin
The toll resumes its spin
Confound the state you're in
Just listen to her voice
Confiding you the likes
Of who to blame

She turned onto herself
And you are still alive
To take it out on us
I guess that makes a difference
Like mother like son
The madman in the attic
Unreachable
Untouchable

The waters
down in the subway
Let's dance a way together
And probe ourselves the moves
We'll glue a world together
With new uncertain grooves

As you were feeling lonely
With scars burnt in your backbone
Barebacked when the sun blew
And I'll fix you on the goal
I'd like you to remember
It's me who's taking chances
With lots of other dances
To lead me astray

When I tell you to go left
You need to do so
When I tell you to desist
You'll have to pull your punches

As you were feeling lonely
Then this is how to thank me, when
I know you must be thankful
Ooh yeah!
Hm-ah

You can't blame it on me
I could use the money
I was ready for your hand
What is there to understand?

Everybody needs a bit
From needy girls to
Dough or shit - I

Loved that purse in shady black
I could hear it singing back
'twas dying to be taken
With chances on the sly
And I was glad to do it
The dirtier the better
The greasier the fatter
'Cos I could get away with it
You offered me a gainful job
And she gave me a joyride,
She'd also heard your call
And gladly took an upside

But now the feds are closing in, and
Who's to lose, and who's to win

I'm dueling the choice
Of money or some inner voice

The flipside of the coin, mocks
Dancing round on heads and tails
Your yaught in Athens' still for sale
To bulge another fairytale
(creaky radio voice)
They're knocking on your door
Your pants are down
As you were having fun
But face it, you're too fat to run

I fed you with a smile
As empty as the doorway
That dozed into the hallway
Filling up the shades.
As you were
Expecting me to hit against
A wall of expectations
Bouncing back the ball
As you came well prepared

Tell me, is my house still white?
Or have I left some lines?
Text is written everywhere
Try to read it if you can
It used to be there.
Try to read it if you can
I know I used to care.
Deeply

You ate a piece of mind
Unsalted and unsavoury
A sympathetic look
I pitied you, the memory

Just know it has been dead for months
You gave a fatal overdose
That rendered me a comatose
Thoughts like on TV.

Tell me, is my blood still in?
Or is it dull and dry?
And is its colour red or brown?
You might taste it if you try
It used to be there.

Cold Shoulder

I felt his eyes across the room
I'm sure he wasn't reading
But scouring through his magazine
And hoping to accost me

At least that's what it felt like
It was pent-up premonition
Of a man dying to speak

So I just looked away
To read of dental illness
Postered on the wall

What if I'm too polite
What if I understand
What if I fear the risk
Of a cold shoulder?

This is when I wish
I could sabotage the train
And squeeze out all the pus
That's been spat into my ear
This is when I wish
I could open up that skull
And plunge this dulling mind in
My pic of rotting teeth.

Sense came in a rumble
Like chunks of Stuka'd words
Dropping fractured algebra
Like sleet on tarmac

With other things to mind
Than Europe, greed or profiteers
The backdrops of today

I nodded back indifference
Humming back to please
A splendid piece of roleplay.

Good Ole Mobius, but with Regulo on the drums. He liked the song, I liked his drumming, so that's how Mobius got a 3rd ring.

About that little thing that you just can't seem to leave alone. Whatever you do, and wherever you go, the trap awaits you and you're in it before you realise it.

Mobius' Wedding Ring

The ground below my feet
Was changing into strips
Ready to roll on
Moved them with my fingertips

I'd see my hands in motion
To melt into the next
Like endless lines of coke
Ready to inhale.

Please, tell me if I travelled
And what I might have seen
I'm locked inside Pandora's box
Drawn in by the sirens

I've minds in every pocket,
And thoughts in every bag
If batteries run low
I don't know where to go
I carry them around
Like a wedding ring

Inside this ring of Mobius
Temptation feels ridiculous
When every turn turns old
And every turn turns new

And time and time again
Only little things will change
And all will stay the same
But goes unnoticed

I think I must have travelled
With all the lot I've seen
Here inside Pandora's box
Miracle of science

Please, tell me if I travelled
If batteries run low
I carry them around
Like a wedding ring

Inside this ring of Mobius
Temptation feels ridiculous
When every turn turns old
And every turn turns new

And time and time again
Only little things will change
And all will stay the same
But goes unnoticed

I think I must have travelled
With all the lot I've seen
Here inside Pandora's box
About that little thing that you just can't seem to leave alone. Whatever you do, and wherever you go, the trap awaits you and you're in it before you realise it.

Mobius' Wedding Ring

The ground below my feet
Was changing into strips
Ready to roll on
Moved them with my fingertips

I'd see my hands in motion
To melt into the next
Like endless lines of coke
Ready to inhale.

Please, tell me if I travelled
And what I might have seen
I'm locked inside Pandora's box
