Pete Homes . . unique stand-up comedian, podcast host and TV prodigy of both Conan O'Brien and Judd Apatow . . first won my heart and mind when I downloaded the episode of "You Made It Weird" with Iliza Schlesinger as the guest.

He has since then joined her as a favorite funny person of mine.

I'd been into Iliza bigtime for at least a year maybe, and was finding her appearances on various podcasts . . . after watching enough of her "The Weakly News" to have compiled and rendered a sample piece / mash-up, I was thrilled and tickled when I uploaded a video for "‪Piar O' Riley ( Revelling In The Unraveling )‬" and Iliza actually commented and shared it the same day !!

Here's hoping this Petey-piece, not quite as frantic and frenetic as the Iliza one, does half-as well . . . . or better even ?

Naturally, I expect this to resonate most with fans of Pete's . . . the Weirdos !
And with The Petey Prince himself.
But I'll bet'cha the uninitiated will get more then a sense of the wise fun goin' on . . . and wouldn't I be thrilled if some followed thru and started making it weird with a few of the full podcasts I've sampled here !

This piece showed itself as another ripping example of "while I'm just uncovering the top of this archeological dig and have a rough idea of the shape and size of it, I apparently sense details of what I'm unearthing already".

I'd had the 12 isolated tracks for Steely Dan's "Do it Again" in a Garageband project awhile . . no notion yet of what I'd use `em with, but knowing I'd wanna do a dub-mix first.

As a Pete Holmes piece started to shift into gear, I contemplated what the backing would be and quickly landed on "Do it Again".
"Alright you !, off the bench and onto the field !"
I had not consciously realized just how perfect a bed the chorus of this Steely track would be for what became the "nice little chunk of change" hook !

Even more deeply wild ? . . . . I spent a few hours working-up said dub-mix first.
Where to drop out the keyboard part . . . levels and reverb . . these sort of choices.
Seemingly impetuous was my decision to toss in a brief bit of Donald Fagen singing "yeah, you go back, Jack, do it again", but deciding to use only "do it again" for the 2nd pass.

2 days later I'm confronted with adding samples around this, having saved it as a locked-in 2-track bounce-down & making it the foundation in a new "next stage" project.
"Hmm . . . sure would be cool to have Pete substitute "Jack Black" where the 2nd "back, Jack" should be !"
I wondered . . would any diehard weirdos know if, in over 300 episodes so far, Pete ever mentioned Jack Black by name ?

Not "really" wanting to divert from the creation groove while I combed thru every ep for well over 600 hours, I let the potentially silly idea go.

I'd been watching dozens of Pete vids on YouTube while going back to eps of YMIW for more bits, and I also discovered & downloaded Pete's appearance on "Getting Doug With High" just for viewing enjoyment, which I viewed enjoyably during a meal-break.
3/4's of the way thru this uproarious vid, wouldn't you know, he intones the name of Mr. Black . . . twice !!

Makes a nice fleshier harmony that way, don't `cha' know.

The samples used were not all sought-out and edited down for this piece in particular ( altho' many were once work had begun ) . . rather, I'd been snagging stand-out lines for a couple years already. I'd be listening to an ep whilst driving my overnight suburban cab, hear a great line like Patton's "be delighted with your friends" and usually mail myself a pic of the time on the pod-screen . . then edit all the good lines from that bit, for future use in some piece or another.

I don' t compile a complete and exhaustive "Sample Sources" listing for every piece I put out there, but Weirdos (( or even ol' Petey Panties his own self )) will likely encounter a multitude of moments where one must know just who said what,
