Another from The Archives -- this Robin Williams career spanner is, at the time I share this on hearthis, just 2 months from it's 1 year anniversary.

Sure !, also enjoy the intensely-packed video accompaniment to a densely-stacked audio . . .
youtube.com/watch?v=oj1yx0EPqUc

pre-note: in the first minutes of April 1st, 2015, as the audio was 85% finished and the video just begun,
I saw a link on Google News about Robin having signed-up to see use of his image protected.
I declare respectfully and with creative intent only, that this audio & it's video generates no profit
and is wholly a work of love and motivated solely by the desire to honor and share the joys he gave us.

Individual art credits, where available, appear at the end of the following long-list of sample sources .. . .

Anyone's passing, family or celebrity, brings about "the tallying" . . . a natural shift in perspective where all they did
and were adds up in your heart . . and mind.

And with Robin Williams, the range, depth and variety of all he did is gonna' be takin' awhile to think about . .
to register . .
. . . and to revisit !

Not to mention so much still to catch-up on.

I'd bet most of us, between movies missed and talk-shows and various appearances, still have plenty of "new" Robin
waiting. And hopefully I've added a little bit more . . . .

I began to write these accompanying notes only 11 days since his sudden and stunning departure, and it's only
becoming more real . . . .
. . . the weeps are deeper . . . and the body of work more impressive by the day.
3 days ago, while watching either films loved or new to me, and alternating with talk show stints and movie press-junket
footage or such, I began to realize that the ideas for a "tribute piece" had been brewing and bubbling within me all along.

It was Robin's appearance on "Inside The Actor's Studio" that popped the blossom.
( and perhaps the fact that I'd been watching it while also having it's audio open in another editor-app,
stopping and saving lines as I went.
I ended-up with 52 possible samples there alone -- including the opening and closing segments of this piece ! )

Once I felt the impetus truly come together, I wondered . . .
"would I take rhythm tracks from some song's isolated mogg files ?"
maybe a full-on inst-piece from someone ??" . . . and I thought of the perfect piece almost immediately !!
Like it was already there and waiting . . .

Not only does Manu Dibango's "Rencontre" have so many shifting sections, but thruout it maintains a warm joyful center
while swingin' !
Tis fun, but wise . . .  happy and spiritual . .  a calm center with exuberant surging flourishes !
It is both uplifting and contemplative, and that's just about perfect.

In celebrating the life and manifestations of Robin Williams, it was hard to keep it under 10 minutes.
( which is already whittled-down from 40-some years of career over here ! )

And, of course, there's another "little difficulty" that will no doubt come up in comments,
should this piece get much attention :

Is all the sheer joy and redemptive spirit in his work and interviews now sadly undercut by how surrounded by darkness
he must've felt on August 11th of 2014 ?
Is his life now an exuberant sentence that ends with a heartbreaking period, or dot..dot..dot ? . . betraying all the winning
moments in movies and his stand-up ?

In initial contemplation of it all . . sometimes, yes . . but I believe a least 2 or 3 people may have played a Beatley-track in
the last 30+ years, and felt all the exuberant joy and enjoyment. And the work, wit and wisdom of John has certainly
outshone the devastating events of December 8th 1980, no ?

I believe, more and more, that Robin was indeed surrounded by several things . . which we know of.
Age . . . a poorly handled network show . . . finances . . . the urge for a "refresher stint in rehab" . . but a key tipping-point
appears to have been the wonderful world of modern pharmaceuticals !

How many of these damn wonder-drugs, that they're often tweaking, come with warnings of "dark feelings" that they may
enhance and distort ?!? Particularly if you're in a different "place" then someone else taking the same thing !, and it has
become clearer that Robin was effected by Lewy Body Dementia as an early part of Parkinsons.

To put it bluntly and crudely, he wasn't exactly in his fully "right mind", and the results . . which he'd certainly take back
and riff on gloriously . . . do not define him for all time . . his life does !

(( and please . . do not define this piece and all the work behind it & joy ahead of it by isolating & commenting upon
the last 2 paragraphs either !!! ))

I shared this new effort with my Masher-pal DJ Konrad Useo when only a few samples were tentatively in place …
the first brush-dabs.
And with the piece maybe 7% along, he completely got the feeling of it.
Already in place was the short speech from "Actor's Studio" that had truly birthed this piece
. . . where Robin is talking about doing multiple takes, and how going "too far"
gives one the energy to focus the right version.

When I first began this, I knew well before any deliberate decision was even considered that it would be beyond a mere
collecting of iconic lines from his best-known films.
That sort of "Top 50 Lines" approach would, of course, limit it severely while also leading listeners to naturally react with
"why didn't you use ?" -- or -- "how could you use ?!?"

But . . . open the spectrum to the staggering range of interviews and appearances and not only is his life, energy, and career
better represented . . . it will also feel fresh, deeper and new . . . and hopefully more compelling and just plain enjoyable !

And if that, in turn, drives anyone mad with lots of "now where the hell did that come from ??" . . . .
It's not vital to know . . in fact, it can disrupt the immersion . .
but after you've gotten caught-up in it's flow 9 times-in-a-row, it's maybe nice to know ?

So here's the full, exhaustive listing of every blessed blasted sample source -- at the time they first appear :

00:00 - "Okay ! . . on the count of three . . . 1 . . 2 . . 3 !!" -- as Ramon -="Happy Feet 2" -- 2011

00:05 - "Weebo stalks goons" -- character sound-effect -="Flubber" -- 1997

and what happen's, it'll peak . . . you'll start to go off and it'll get outrageous, it'll get outrageous, and then you'll
kind'a hit it, and then you'll go beyond and you know when you have . . yeah ( James Lipton ) . . and then what'll
happen is you do something really outrageous . . and then you'll come back and you say, ok, that was great . . .
and you'll take the energy from the outrageous one and then cycle into something very kind of . . . . focused."

Well then, if you've actually read through this far . . . . or simply scrolled-down to see the "video-credits"
(( and if I indeed gave you your due ))
. . . . then here comes that then !

Credits due for online art featured & repurposed:

The 'cover art' for the mp3:

Jeff Victor for the Mrs. Doubtfire rendering.

and Skye Gould created "The Faces of Robin Williams" for "Business Insider",
of which I used several "character spheres" amongst the balloons n' bubbles.

Found art for characters such as Ramone or The Genie was not individually "signed" or credited.

And here is a lovely link to a FaceBook Album of 31 key arts, plus many outside creator originals !

Within the video:

00:00- Balloons n' Bubbles - the pure background for the cover-art.
Image search shows this to be all over the web-world with no original creator easily traceable !
The idea I searched to represent was exactly that . . . balloons and bubbles,
feeling this conveyed a mind like Robin's . . full of
fluid thoughts and references bobbing and bouncing off each other. Also ? . . lot'sa characters in there !

00:03 - "on the count of 3 . . ." -- "PBS Pioneers of Television - Robin Williams Remembered "

00:11 - pull-back within the finished cover-art

00:26 - Robin bonds w/ Koko The Gorilla

00:35 - screen-shot from "Inside The Actors Studio" in 3 progressive versions of the Corel app's oil-painting setting.

00:51 - "Robin Williams Live On Broadway" -- HBO - 2002

00:54 - "the Genie is freed" -- "Aladdin" - 1992

00:59 - "paper-burster" -- another "Usage Rights -- Not Filtered by License" . . and that means . . . s'cool ?

01:02 - Simpsonized Robins, by Adrien Noterdaem

01:10 - for "my head is like a fishbowl", by Annie Leibovitz

01:20 - 2 shots from the "Fatman and Robin" episode of "Family Guy" - Fuzzy Door Productions - 2012

01:34 - attacks of The Morcs from Futurama's "Bender's Game" - 2008 (( captions from yours twirly ))

01:40 - wall-mural from "The Crazy Ones" - pilot episode.

01:43 - surveying Neverland from "Hook" -- Tristar - 1991

01:47 - comforting good Will Hunting from "Good Will Hunting " -- Miramax - 1997

02:05 - "playtime's over" -- image from a different scene in "Good Will Hunting " -- Miramax - 1997

02:10 - breaking into song . . and dance ! . . "The Nothing Left to Lose Blues"
on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" -- 2013

02:15 - as Alan Hakman, editing memories of the deceased, from "The Final Cut" -- Lions Gate - 2004
Illustrating the sample "this is so much fun" from "Inside The Actor's Studio",
this is one of the first times I clearly use footage or a still
for a moment it wasn't directly from. In this case,
I let editing Robin stand for me having "so much fun" assembling this !

02:20 - the second line, "all music is gay now ?" is Robin as Lance Clayton reacting incredulously to his troubled son
from "World's Greatest Dad" -- Magnolia Pictures - 2009

02:27 - a montage of "Aladdin's" Genie. The "let's get real here" line only appears to the moment shown, yet . . . is not !

02:36 - The long line-up, with Genie and Rainbow Randolph in the middle, is by Tyler Boyco . .
and for the purposes of this video, I replaced a lovely "wrinkled & scuffed" effect with more solid-colors,
plus a centered lighting effect that blends with the whites.

02:40 - "curb-couch laughs with Lionel" - "Moscow On The Hudson" -- Columbia Pictures - 1984

02:47 - screen-shot from "Inside The Actors Studio" in progressive versions of the Corel app's oil-painting setting.

02:52 - collage by transformersguy1000. I everso boldly worked every blessed cube here for all the variable contrast one
finds online, but especially "derusting" the over bloomed freakin' reds that make up 86% of online images !!
Plus, the black bordering I obnoxiously added makes `em all dance a bit as it crossfades into the next segment . . .

03:04 - for the line "I want to be a macho man" ? . . . Hey !! . . Mrs. Doubtfire stripping down to her hidden man within !

03:08 - as Armand Goldman, with Christine Baranski as Katherine Archer -- "The Birdcage" - United Artists - 1996

03:13 - Ramon "hates these long distance relationships" and takes the plunge to join his stranded love below.

  • "Happy Feet 2" -- Warner Brothers - 2006
The way this clip crossfades into the next was the moment where my eyebrows really popped as to how nifty this
vid just might turn out !!
And yes, the scene that Ramon's "wait for me !" sample comes from is different . . but it works so well here
while adding to the cross-connections & more then one open angle at once.
You know . . "it works on a few levels, man"

03:18 - "Hmm . . . for the 'farmboy -- squeal' line . . . could I actually find a shot of Robin and a pig ? ---- Ha !"
(( all searches for photo-credit led to Pinterest postings ! ))

03:21 - My own collage ! . . . featuring some stuff I didn't see others using, like:
"The Bowery Boys In The Band" from SCTV
"Alone Again Naturally" with The Sweeney Sisters & Paul Simon from SNL
"Waiting For Godot" with Steve Martin . . etc !

03:24 - Robin playing the sax, from - "Moscow On The Hudson" -- Columbia Pictures - 1984

03:35 - for "someone bless America" from -=Robin Williams Live On Broadway -- 2002 ? . . . Vietnam !! . . ( Good )

03:43 - as background, a collage that might have come from this guy ?

03:52 - entering Rogue City, to see Dr. Know, from "A.I. - Artificial Intelligence" -- Dreamworks Pictures - 2001

03:55 - The King of The Moon sneezes himself outta' the movie, from "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen"
-- Columbia Pictures - 1988, while Mork frees a egg !

04:03 - Mork from Ork figure & egg ship - Mego / Mattel - 1979

04:05 - as Daniel Hillard , singing "I Eat Wood" - "Mrs. Doubtfire" -- 20th Century Fox - 1993

04:35 - as Professor Philip Brainard w/ the ductile, gullible, foldable "Flubber" -- Buena Vista Pictures - 1997

04:46 - as Dennis the Dog in the "Absolutely Anything" Exclusive Clip -- Lionsgate UK - 2015

04:51 - "Everybody Gets Pudding !!" - our lead title-phrase ! -- "Weapons Of Self Destruction" -- HBO - 2009

05:06 - "as Elmer Fudd singing "Fire" by Bruce Springsteen" -- 1983

05:12 - "and if they legalize it . . . " -- "Weapons Of Self Destruction" -- HBO - 2009

05:24 -" . . . and if you thought you enjoyed cartoons before .." -- footage from end of "Ferngully ~ The Last Rainforest"
-- 20th Century Fox - 1992 . . with overlays of Fender, Genie, Family Guy Robin, Ramon, and !
at 05:31, "The Timekeeper" . . . a Disneyland attraction from 1994 to 2006 !

05:33 - another fun-goofy example of finding the visual for an audio-only line:
for "why don't you change the nature of man instead of just talking about drugs and people passing out ?!"
--- the poster for "Awakenings" ?!? -- Columbia Pictures - 1990

05:41 - from "A Night at The Met" -- 1986

05:43 - Robin wins his Oscar for "Good Will Hunting" -- 1998

05:51 - "Popeye" -- Paramount - 1980

05:56 - "The Fisher King" -- Tristar Pictures - 1991

06:15 - "A.I. - Artificial Intelligence" -- Dreamworks Pictures - 2001

06:37 - the waltz sequence from "The Fisher King" -- Tristar Pictures - 1991

06:49 - somehow, illustrating "I remember that joke from 1929" is performed by a still of the noodle-pool
from "Patch Adams" -- Universal Pictures - 1998

06:54 - "Robin Williams in the wildest interview with Maria Salas" -- 2011

06:56 - as Mork & early stand-up, by Springfield Punx

07:02 - from the "Mork & Mindy" opening theme

07:04 - begins the "I don't like you !!" / arm-farts segment, from: "Inside The Actor's Studio" - 2001
/ "Robots" -- Blue Sky Studios - 2005

07:17 - Here we get into one a' my favorite sections . . The Triple Fucks !
The last line of the "I don't like you !!" bit wasn't as useable . . when he says "we don't like you -- I know !",
he was originally going back to his seat across from Lipton, but I soon thought that the scene
from "Hook" where the kids are chasing him down just might illustrate it real goody !

07:21 - This now goes right into his line from the WTF podcast --> "How's this for your fuckin' kids ?!"
Take the scene where Peter Banning's kids are lifted up in a net on Hook's ship,
and reverse it so they're being lowered into a dark hole !!
I giggled for 3 days in satisfaction on that one ( still do, too )

07:23 - The next lines are also from the WTF podcast w/ Marc Maron:
For "Hey, you suck -- I love you -- hey, fuck off " (( what you get in NY )),
we use the egg-hit scene from "Death to Smoochy"

07:27 - and "fuck you" (( as Richard Pryor, to an audience yelling out for Mudbone )) is visualized
with his phone-smashing scene from "The Angriest Man In Brooklyn" and is quite the effective hoot !!
"The Angriest Man In Brooklyn" -- Lionsgate - 2014

07:28 - "do ya' get it ??!" - "Inside The Actor's Studio"

07:31 - Golden Globes for Best Actor in "The Fisher King" -- 1992

07:35 - "me ? me ? me? me? me? me? me ? me ? (( reacting to his wall-size portrait ))
-="The Crazy Ones" - Ep. 1 - Pilot -- 2013

07:41 - ‪last appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman‬" -- 2013

07:43 - crossfade to childhood snapshot, as appeared on - "Inside The Actor's Studio"

07:46 - "Jumanji" stampede with overlaid "me-pede" - "Jumanji" -- Tristar - 1995

07:48 - "clothes-pin" doll type Robin characters ( that form the mepede ) by designer Carrie Winiker

07:52 - "Dead Poets Society" -- Touchstone Pictures - 1989

07:55 - "One Hour Photo" -- Fox Searchlight Pictures - 2002

07:57 - "Robin Williams Live On Broadway" - 2002

07:59 - "Gooooooood Morning Vietnaaam !!!!" - "Good Morning, Vietnam" -- Touchstone Pictures - 1988

08:03 - "Mrs. Doubtfire"

08:06 - "Death to Smoochy"

08:12 - for the "hunting dogs howl" sample, the actual footage would merely be Robin on Parkinson's UK talkshow . . .
. . but for this turning point in the piece . . this climatic moment where we've built-up and now we're going
into the bouncy culminating coda, we surely need something more then sitting in a guest-chair !
I thought perhaps that one of the films I'd gotten, yet hadn't yet watched, might just provide the right visual.
1994's "Being Human" (( Warner Bros. )) apparently features Robin as the same soul thruout many points of
history. I wonder if the earliest segments show him as a primitive nomad type who might do something animal-like
for our "cameras" ? I dragged the Quicktime playhead thru the open file ( like I had already in many cases )
and I believe I found my moment . . .

08:16 - Parry & Lydia -- -="The Fisher King"

08:18 - several stills edited "flip-book" style from "The Crazy Ones" -- "The Stan Wood Account" episode - 2013

08:21 - dancin' with Bill Irwin and Bobby McFerrin in the "Don’t Worry, Be Happy" video - 1988
I was, damn it, in such a groove at this point that I kept finding just the right adjusted speeds to get footage
swinging to them Dibango beats !

08:24 - seemingly personal video found as "Here Are 8 Great GIFs of Robin Williams Dancing That Will Make You Smile"

08:29 - 2 more from "Death to Smoochy"

08:34 - "Twyla Twyla Twyla" -- Armand's "Eclectic Celebration of The Dance" - "The Birdcage" -- United Artists - 1996

08:37 - Smooch !

08:41 - "come back to the church !" . . Latin Pope bit from "Weapons Of Self Destruction" -- 2009

08:43 - first dance for the amigos - "Happy Feet"
this may be my favorite "adjusted the clip-speed just right" part !
When it syncs and the characters are now into it, it's gratifying joy !

08:46 - Genie and his Mighty Mitts !

08:47 - Popeye dances off with Swee'pea , accelerating as he exits staff left into . . . .

08:50 - . . . a now iconic shot of Robin what I couldn't, again, find any original photo-credit for !
Here it's featured with Photoshop's "cutout" effect.

08:53 - a warm smile at the beach. Already used by everyone, although here I've delicately used the oil-painting effect.

08:55 - 3 cross-faded scenes from "Bicentennial Man" -- Buena Vista Pictures - 1999

09:01 - to visualize the sample "Ola, music lovers !" from "August Rush" ( -- Southpaw Entertainment - 2007 ),
I've used a scene from slightly later where August is discovering his innate musical talents and has awoken Robin's
character ( and the rest of the "gang" ) and put smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes !

09:03 - early Robin. also oil-painted. All top Googled results pointed to "PBS Pioneers of Television

  • Robin Williams Remembered"
. . . as if they'd been working on their documentary & compiling footage since the late 70's ?!

09:07 - back to the iconic 'warm deep smile' shot . . . this time with oil-painting, plus luminescent surface effects.

09:14 - The 'reincarnated butterfly scene' from "Patch Adams". I hesitated to wrap-up
with such an obvious heart-string tugger, but it's simply too perfect a send-off . . . .
. . . and has as many open interpretations as one can imagine . . and beyond.
