thousands of foxes live in the heart of berlin. the ancestors of today’s berlin foxes didn’t just come into the city from all over the world for a short holiday; they have been in berlin for countless generations. their forebears migrated to the city, and they have never known any other way of life.

life as an urban fox is dangerous, primarily due to road traffic. on average, urban foxes live to be only one and a half years old — a much shorter lifespan than that of their rural relatives.

but why are they so rarely seen in berlin, you ask?

it is because they are experts at remaining unseen by us. these foxes prefer small fenced-in areas, abandoned warehouses, and vacant lots where they can easily hide from us.
