So yeah, we crawled down the chimney and found a message from our friends at Beats Bizarre, "we're trying to get back to the Andromeda Nebula but our ride is broke, can you help us put these parts together for the mothership?" Of course we were glad to assist, so we went deep into the bassment and found the parts, they were really high quality and with some shaping and slapping we started to put them together. We had no plans to work from but it seemed clear that the parts needed to get all funked up so we made some horny horns and chicken- scratch sundaes and sat in the garden for a few hours. When we came back inside the glue had set so we powered it up. Blew a few fuses. OOOD (aka Out Of Our Depth) will be a familiar name to both those with long memories, and to relative newcomers to trance. Formed in the UK in 1994 and with 4 members since 2001 (Colin, Steve, Rama, Ryokan), they've been around for as long as there's been psytrance and have worked with many of the names and labels from the scene's long history, as well as producing some of Goa Trance's classic tracks on labels like Flying Rhino, Phantasm and Matsuri. A few quiet years in the early 2000s saw them retreat to the Stooodio after their first two albums were caught up in the bankruptcy of two different distributors but they never gave up, and their eclectic third album 'Free Range' (Organic, 2006) was regarded by many reviewers as one of the very best psytrance releases that year. Two years later they released 'Fourthought' (Phar Psyde, 2008), an 80-minute psychedelic journey through downtempo, breaks, electro, blues and a varied selection of psytrance; again the album attracted '11/10 A+' reviews and saw them consolidate their place as one of the few acts from the birth of the scene who are still actively contributing. Recent releases have seen them reach high positions in various download charts, with their Oddball EP (Broken Robot, 2010) reaching #1 on Trackitdown and #13 on Beatport. Their fifth album is currently nearing completion.

As well as the originality, sense of fun and excellent production they bring to their releases, OOOD have been praised for their live sets since their London debut in 1995. Now, with four people in the band they are unique for the way they use live instruments (guitar, drums, keyboards, percussion) as an integral part of their live set, and have gained a reputation for both the power and quality of their live sound, and the vibrancy of their performances. Events such as Boom (Portugal), Universo Paralello (Brazil), Fusion (Germany), Glade (UK) and Vortex (South Africa), and many others in Japan, Russia and across Europe and elsewhere are seeing how OOOD and their side-projects create a unique energy and connection with the audience. OOOD live is different every time but these guys know what they're doing and they put on a hell of a show.

Apart from solo psytrance releases as early as 1994, OOOD's first release was on Phantasm Records in 1996, with their collaborative side-project Unconscious Collective subsequently releasing one of Flying Rhino's biggest-selling tracks, 'Fluorostani Transcendance' later that year. With up to 6 people on stage and musicianship of all kinds very much in evidence, OOOD have performed live (in various combinations) all over the world from New York to Japan via South Africa, Israel and of course the UK and Europe. Recent festival gigs include opening the Origin stage at Glade Festival, as well as prime-time slots at Sunrise Festival and Waveform Festival in the UK, Fusion Festival in Germany, Hidden Gate Festival in Japan and Vortex New Years Eve and Easter Festivals in South Africa.

The first OOOD album aLIVE was released on Cabbaged Records (UK) in 1997 and was probably the first ever live album released as a debut by a psy-trance act. A stunning exposition of the unique psychedelic sound of OOOD, the album was recorded live - and we mean LIVE - at parties across the UK including Pagan's fabled New Years Eve party, Science Fiction and Otherworld at the Fridge in London. Many years after its release, this seminal album is now a collector’s item sought after by trance-heads across the world.

Breathing Space... Refining the formula
Two years after their debut album came OOOD's second long player Breathing Space. Ranging from full-on neuro bashing psychedelia to utter ambient via dub and chilled breaks, Breathing Space ventured beyond class A dancefloor mayhem to include the mellower side of OOOD's sonic headspace. Showcasing the dramatic effect a studio upgrade can have, the album marked a step-change in the quality of OOOD's productions and was released independently on OOOD Records distrubuted by MRL (aka. Kukomi). Now also a collector's item, copies of the CD have sold for silly money on eBay (although you can apparently still buy it in Tower Records in Tel Aviv).

As well as being talented DJs they bring an extra live element to OOOD's live shows, adding live drums, percussion, guitar and psychedelia. Recent festival gigs include opening the Origin stage at Glade Festival, as well as prime-time slots at Sunrise Festival and Waveform Festival in the UK, Fusion Festival in Germany, Hidden Gate Festival in Japan and Vortex New Years Eve and Easter Festivals in South Africa.

Breathing Space... Refining the formula
Two years after their debut album came OOOD's second long player Breathing Space. Ranging from full-on neuro bashing psychedelia to utter ambient via dub and chilled breaks, Breathing Space ventured beyond class A dancefloor mayhem to include the mellower side of OOOD's sonic headspace. Showcasing the dramatic effect a studio upgrade can have, the album marked a step-change in the quality of OOOD's productions and was released independently on OOOD Records distrubuted by MRL (aka. Kukomi). Now also a collector's item, copies of the CD have sold for silly money on eBay (although you can apparently still buy it in Tower Records in Tel Aviv).
