The Association des francophones des Kootenays Ouest (or AFKO, translated as the Francophone Association of West Kootenays) promotes French language and culture throughout its region.

The AFKO is a not-for-profit membership organisation which offers a variety of French-language services, among them a book and video library, weekly radio show, quarterly newsletter, summer day camp, travelling library (bibliobus), French-language directory of services and assisted public access to computers and the internet. The AFKO also organizes a variety of events celebrating French culture and open to all Francophones and Francophiles in the region.

1-2 Sentence description of the show: This audio segment consists in 3 interviews exploring how the French language influences the life of three artists: Guillaume Fuseau, Fanny Parent and Vincent Deslauriers.

Longer description of show/content (500 word max, to go on website -please provide shortened detail on each information update or audio capsule): Casandra Pigeon, bilingual student from Montreal visiting the Kootenays for the summer, interviewed 3 artists under the theme of the linguistic duality. The First artist, Guillaume Fuseau, was born in France and lives in Montreal since he is 9 years old. He is a singer song-writer. The two other interviewees are both originally from Quebec and moved to the Kootenays 2 years ago. Fanny Parent is a pottery artist and explains how the francophone community helped in her integration. Vincent Deslauriers is a poet and he expanded the conversation of linguistic duality by talking about the First Nation languages and how they should also be part of the country’s language diversity.
