When I Say I Love You (Bay City Rollers) - A cover song of a cover song from the 70s

The song "When I Say I Love You" was published in 1972 by the folk group "The Sutherland Brothers Band" under the name "The Pie". The band hat it's only notable hit in 1976 with "Arms of Mary". The song has been added to the Bay City Rollers' 1978 album "Strangers In the Wind" using the full title "When I Say I Love You (The Pie)". Noteworthy changes to the original version include two-voiced guitar melodies and the typical BCR multi-voice vocals. The song has never been publish as a single and is therefore not listed in any chart history.

I sang all lead and backing vocals in thei cover version. I found the backing track on youtoube where a Japanse amateur musician provided his own instrumental cover version (without melody) and it has not the usual sound and musical quality. But I was really happy to be able to sing this song, as "Strangers In the Wind" is my favorite album of the band.

Der Song "When I Say I Love You" wurde von der The Sutherland Brothers Band 1972 als Single unter dem Titel "The Pie" veröffentlicht. Die Band hatte 1976 mit dem Song "Arms of Mary" ihren einzigen nennenswerten Hit. Der Titel wurde 1978 von den Bay City Rollers auf ihrem Album "Strangers In the Wind" veröffentlicht und erhielt den vollständigen Titel "When I Say I Love You (The Pie)". Neben den mehrstimmigen Gitarren fallen hier als Unterschied zur Originalversion auch die typischen mehrstimmigen Vokalsätze besonders auf. Der Song wurde nie als Single veröffentlicht und taucht in den einschlägigen Songlisten daher auch nirgendwo auf.

Bei diesem Song habe ich wieder alle Haupt- und Hintergrundstimmen eingesungen. Der Backingtrack erschien vor einiger Zeit von einem japanischen Hobbymusiker und Bay City Rollers-Fan auf Youtube und hat nicht ganz die gewohnte Sound- und Musik-Qualität der anderen Songs. Ich habe mich aber trotzdem gefreut, diesen Song singen zu können, da Strangers In the Wind mein Lieblingsalbum der Band ist.
