The main elements of the track originated from one of my first own compositions back in 2006. Back then this was only one of the melodies and the chords. I did a rework in 2009, but this time I tried using some sort of self-similarity.
The track basically consists of five 'blocks'. In the first one the main chord progression is played (Emadd9, C#7b5, Dmmaj7, Bmadd9), and in each following block this progression is transposed according to the chords in Emadd9 , (so the second block has the chord progression Bmadd9,...; the third block: F#madd9,...; fourth: Gmadd9,...; fifth: Bmadd9).
In a similar way I've used the second chord of the original progression to get a more interesting timpani track. It's main notes follow the chord progressions but once per block it plays notes from the C#7b5 chord.
Similarly the remaining chords arise throughout the track (but I would have to check my notes to see what and where exactly because the last few weeks I was working on the production side of this whole thing to make it sound alright ).

Also I played around with a bit of ideas regarding symmetry in song structure.

The samples i used were Matadors '124 Tonetool' and 'Mea Culpa' off Brian Eno/David Byrnes CD 'My life in the bush of ghosts'
Did most of it while i was still in England and didnt have the possibilities of recording my guitar. (So drum sounds, processing of the samples etc were still done in Manchester).

I tried to keep a steady 4/4 beat but at the same time using polymetrics with the hi-hat and drum- sounds. There we ve got 4/4 , 5/4 and 7/4 .

To the guitars. It might not be detectable but i got into prepared guitar sounds (the follow up to this [ no remix , original stuff] will be more on the quieter side and with more focus on guitars i think ) so i tried using that .

I tried to keep a steady 4/4 beat but at the same time using polymetrics with the hi-hat and drum- sounds. There we ve got 4/4 , 5/4 and 7/4 .

To the guitars. It might not be detectable but i got into prepared guitar sounds (the follow up to this [ no remix , original stuff] will be more on the quieter side and with more focus on guitars i think ) so i tried using that .</itunes:summary>

First time that i used a real mathematical idea. The cords are transformed according to a certain way of transformation (really not sure if im using the correct term though).
Other elements are derived from facts about dresden (had this gig in dresden) and facts about Marlene Dietrich (reason for this is a rather[very] disturbing/strange dream i had about a woman looking like a 20/30s actress)
Tried to have a very lofi-sound and wanted to have it sound a bit like 'art-deco' would.
propably not that successful (since it took ages to complete it). I hope the next one's better
inspiration was one senior guy i met during my civilian service. according to his stories (still not sure whether to believe in them or not) he was in auschwitz as a kid and was forced to kill other children. The was an incredible amount of furrows on him and he looked really battered and lived alone. i tried to make it sound a bit confused and sad blabla. I browsed a hebrew-dictionary and went looking for 'furrow' and eventually found it.
Ah . and another inspiration was a video of ithak perlman playing klezmer. with those fast violin lines. . i sampled notes of the violin and arranged the single notes the let them play the notes really fast and kind of stuttering. So that is actually my rendition to klezmer, although it doesn't sound like klezmer at all.

Soundwise the tunes have very muhc the same character as the aural diary tunes from july-october. Lots of unplugged electric guitar and processing with ableton .

This first one is very simple and i REALLY still like it. According to my notes it wasn't that elaborate. Ah ok. i THINK i have based the chords of each of the tunes in a way on the overtone series. And each tune has a 'main' interval that appears relatively often (e.g. one halfstep in prezitek , wholestep in good old neon and so on ).
This one was written and recorded in January 2010 i think. After we had a trip to prague. AND if my meomory serves me right. prezitek means something like Hangover.

            <itunes:summary>Not entirely satisfied, but i think i's OK from time to time. Idea after a 'funny' night in Stuttgarts club/lounge 7grad.

Numbers used:
7 (from 7grad )
-> 7/4 for the Percussion-Tracks
-> 7 Segments /Chords
-> 7 tracks (with a compass of 7 notes per track) for the upward/downward bend accompaniment (every track is alternating up und downward bends)
     compass of those 7 tracks from Eb-Eb ->49 notes (root of 49 = 7 )
-> 7 percussion sounds

11 ( 9/11 -> night we were there)
-> 11/4 Rhythm for Chords
-> 11/4 as starting point for the 40/4 of the bend-accompaniment

40 (40%vol per Jameson bottle)

Boxing was preceded by bicycle races (imho pretty boring to watch and follow).which led to me trying to count the total number of moustaches.
Used several numbers for constructing:
-29 (date) as rhythmic structure for the base-percussion track [in 1/8 : 1-3-4-2-4-5-4-3-2-1 ]
-26 (number of moustaches) as rhythmic structure for the thumping bass [in 1/8: 1-3-4-3-5-4-3-2-1 ]
-17 (number of total fights of old/new WFC-Champion Jessica Balogun) for metrum of chords and second percussiontrack
-16 (number of wins of J.B.) root of 16 : max 4 notes/chord
-8 (month) ->8 sections
-7 (number of KOs) and all of the others for effect parameters
Chords themselves nothing to do with any of the numbers as far as i can see. Strucutre again something 'inductive'. Many mirror-ing and inversion going on.

Melody improvised and and overdubbed/coloured with classical guitar
Bpm: 90 about the speed Jason Beckers 'primal' is in.
Did some vocal 'percussion' on this. He often utters 'boar eh' , exhaling sounds etc., which i sampled on this one.
Structurally simpler than the two aural-diary-pieces. Mostly derived from the birthday. being 09/21. though i didn't use the actual two numbers. i used them as multiples of 3 for chord-design and metres.

-Lowest Chord-notes start at Eb and then subtracting 7 halfnotes ( 7*3 =21 ) then adding 3 halfnotes (3*3= 9 ) . repeating this until you get to the Eb again. Then the whole system is mirrored (being on the 'other side' of the mirror different chordnotes ,though) until you get to the Eb again.
([Eb] -7 Ab +3 B -7 E +3 G -7 C +3 [Eb] +3 Gb -7 B +3 D -7 G +3 Bb -7 [Eb] )

- Metrics: 7/8 (for 'Boar + eh' ) ; 3/4 for the two differnet' aaah ' sounds (veryVERY loosely)
Chord changes in 3/4 ,too: Chord change after 3* 3/4

- Tempo: 99 bpm (last digit of the month,and last digit of the year)

'Boar eh ' and 'aaaah aaaaah' are two counterparts ( derived from oberstadt & unterstadt in tübingen . bad mood of my friend reminds me of the Gôgenwitze from Tübingen; other vocal samples are from these 'jokes' )
At the beginning the balance point is on 'boar eh' this shifts gradually every three chords , after about 7 chords, they're in balance, from there on there are more 'aaahs'
I don't know if any of this text makes sense to any of you :D

Inspired by a cornfield on my dog-walking-route. Though I'm slightly allergic I like the smell of a ripe cornfield. That dry smell. Kind of an olfactory equivalent of a creaky wooden door.
Went on wikipedia to check out what could be useful.
ONE spica of wheat hast between 25 and 40 grains, which proved pretty useful.

The four guitars (actually 3 , but the rhythmical/-chord track was impossible to do on a one take) have to different meters.
Melodie track: 5 bars á 5/8 (root of 25) ->25/8 per line
Rhythm: constant change between 6/8 and 2/8 (being root of 36 and root of 4 , 36+4 40, though thats more or less forced; besides that it's 6+2=8)_> This change is going on 5 times -> 5*8/8 = 40/8.

Chordwise it isn't that related, tried to do something interesting with simple chords. Chord change is in a way repeating and expanding.
A B(#3) [basically just two tone chords, played by a fourth/fifth track (the ones you hear at the beginning); the same 40/8 bar structure as mentioned} is the pivotal chord.
B(#3)| C#(b3)|B#(#3)|D#(#7)|C#(b3)|E(4)|B#(#3)|F#(#3)|D#(#7)|C#(b3)|E(4)|A(#6)|B(#3) and mirrored from there one. the chord structure between the pivotal points is groing from both sides.

Oh. and tempo is 65bpm-> 40+25

Soundwise it's kind of a 'country-rendition'

Inspired by the Motion Picture 'Moon'.
- Many references to the moons average density of ~3,345 g/cm³
-> Piece should actzually be exactly 4 mins 7secs long, which would mean 3345 1/32beats. I thought that was to long and tiresome at some point, so I decided not to repeat the chords and place the additional layering earlier.
->many effects  are using 3,35 (density..) 33,45  , 67 etcetc  as parameters

- Because it's part of a Aural Diary (blabla, don't know if i can pull this on a long run)
-> Tempo of the tune derives (vaguely) from the date. recorded /written in August 2010 -> 08.10->810
I used 810 1/32 beats per minute, -> 101,25 bpm. (soundcloud won't let me enter that number)

Chords system pretty simple actually, Melodies improvised.
