This assignment, like many before it, turned into a sort of stream of consciousness experimentation session. With varying degrees of success, I tried many techniques that were new to me, like playing different portions of a trumpet part, doubling those parts with octaves, and piecing them together to make a synth line (the first part that enters), pitch shifting an acoustic guitar down an octave to make a faux bass line, reducing the quality of my solo vocal line for a lo-fi feel, and ending the song by reducing the bitrate of the trumpet-synth.

The name – Stachybotrys – is shared with a common house mold, a consequence of the lyrics in the single verse:
Like the mold on my shower curtain,
Neither hidden, nor addressed,
I’ll be right here where we left off,
Still thinking I know what’s best
