A veteran of the deep house scene who returned from a 12-year-hiatus in 2015, German producer Platzdasch specialises in a particularly lush and groovy take on the genre, full of wide atmospherics, classic samples and strong melody. Releases in recent times on Gents & Dandy’s Records and Masterworks Music have marked him out as a compelling force, and with a new collaborative partnership with a talented keyboard player now in the mix, he looks set to keep churning out quality house music in the near future.

"First of all I feel very honoured to be able to join the great circle of producers who have contributed a Monologues podcast so far. Thanks to Ben Gomori!

The tunes I selected characterise my musical work since I return from musical retirement and it's great to realize that I found my way back into the music, perhaps more than ever before. Since I rarely listen to my finished and released songs it was a happy reunion as well!"

The mysterious Raam hails from Stockholm and has been releasing a succession of tasty 12”s on his Raam Records label over the past few years that celebrate all things analog, lush deep house and melodic techno with reverence for the Detroit greats imbued in its heart. There’s little else to say about him aside from he was involved in the Nordic disco scene in a previous incarnation… so we’ll let the music (and him) do the talking. His mix features pretty much all of his label output to date.

"Deep and forceful, produced with analogue gear, with a focus on beautiful pads dirty drum patterns and warm basslines. I had an idea of what tracks I wanted play and in which order but when i started mixing it came out another way than planned but much better. I think it present´s the diversity of my label, spanning from more disco-influenced tracks to more clean techno productions."

Hailing from Virginia, Dj Aakmael has been releasing a steady stream of quality deep house over the last decade. Fusing jazzy samples with lush strings, woozy textures, sublime keys and a frequent sense of melancholy, his sumptuous cuts have recently found their way to labels like Freerange Recordings, Release Sustain, Kolour LTD and Church. His expert sampling and affection for sounds from the past make for some seriously musical house grooves.

"When I listened back to it, to me it felt refreshing because 1) I never really play my tracks out after I produce, 2) It gave me a sense of what others may feel when they hear these songs compiled together, 3) The back and forth between the deep and the jazz gave it a feeling that I haven't felt in a long time. I could have gone on but wanted to keep it as close to an hour as possible. I may need to create a Part 2!"

Danvers has been suitably impressing us for a while with his colorful mix of samples, live instrumentation and highly musical approach to house music and thereabouts. EPs for FINA and WotNot have marked him out as one to watch, and to celebrate his EP for our label, we invited him to put together this mix of unreleased bit, forthcoming releases and his best bits so far.
Born and raised in Chicago on a diet of jackin’ house and acid heritage, Alinka first made a name for herself as a resident at the city’s legendary Smart Bar club. She later relocated to Berlin and set about bolstering her burgeoning production career. She makes throbbing, thumping house and tech with splashings of acid and electro worked in. It’s body music that’s made to be played loud and to be felt as well as heard. Releases on Crosstown Rebels, Lovecrimes, Classic and her own Twirl imprint have helped to make the world sit up and take attention, as have her ongoing collaborations with sultry-toned former Hercules & Love Affair contributor Shaun J. Wright.
"Making this mix got me a bit emotional because going through our whole catalog. It brought back a lot of memories and also a sense of pride in our progress and the music I've been fortunate to have worked on the past few years."

Canadian producer Jay Tripwire has been consistently top-notch tech house and deep house since the turn of the millennium, with a prolific output that has graced dozens of quality imprints. Although varied in his output, he can usually be counted on to serve up a slick groove with just the right amount of atmospheric texture. And it just so happens that when we contacted him, he was readying the release of a very tasty improvised live set—which we naturally pounced upon. Blending elements of electro, dub, deep techno, ambient and breakbeat, it’s seriously diverse mix.

"It’s me remixing myself in a live PA format, I wanted to do something that is really genre-less. Is it house? Is it Techno? Is it ‘80s electro? Who the fuck knows. "It is what it is". I sketched it with the listener in mind instead of a club or warehouse rave."

Master of producing deep electronic house that sounds incredibly organic, Canadian producer Fred Everything has always brought a real sense of musicality to his productions. The kind where if you take the drums away, the track still sounds excellent. And indeed on his mix for us, he’s taken the opportunity to dig through his extensive catalogue and showcase some of his beatless creations as well as his better-known floor-focused concoctions. A former stalwart of 20:20 Vision, his two decades of productions have landed on pretty much every major deep house imprint, including bastions like Freerange, OM Records, Large Music and Sonar Kollektiv.

"I digged deep in my vault to find some exclusives. There are a few unreleased and to-be-released tracks/remixes. I also wanted to showcase the ambient side of my production by adding a few Beatless (Outro) Versions I did in the past."

The fact that St. Germain entrusted long-time friend Atjazz to be the opening act on his comeback album tour – 15 years after his last LP – speaks volumes about the UK house/afro/soul/jazz fusionist’s reputation. Producing since the mid-’90, he has had a prolific and hugely varied output. Five full-length albums; remixes for the likes of Nitin Sawnhey, Jazzanova, Bob Sinclar and of course St. Germain; his label Atjazz Record Company; a collaborative project alongside Charles Webster; his catalogue is burgeoning. It made for ripe pickings for a soulful journey in his Monologues mix, packed with exclusives.
"I wanted to create a mix that spanned across a few different times of my life, to show a little of my influences, collaborations and remixes, a tater menu if you will! There are many more better known pieces of work but I wanted to show a little more of "me".

22-year-old Bordeaux producer Leon Revol sent us some demos a while back and we instantly fell in love with his sound. Deep, musical & classy, his productions belied his experience, but once we heard more we knew it was no fluke. With previous releases for the likes of Apersonal, Carré Bleu Records & Moutade Musique (as Leonid.) and his gorgeous recent effort for Kolour Recordings, his output is both increasingly prolific and very consistent, drawing on old soul, disco, funk, Brazilian styles +his own innate sense of musicality.

Catch him headline our next party at Farbfernseher in Berlin on April 2 https://www.facebook.com/events/1684485181808206
"Most of these sounds are already out. Some of these were made in 2009 when I had just my computer and records from my parents. There is another that I just finished a few weeks ago. I picked about a track of each year since 2009. Strange to mix my own sounds !"

Joe Europe first appeared on our radar with his eponymous EP for Vitalik in 2012, laden with breezy melodic grooves on a deep house tip. Raised on a diet of Shropshire’s free party scene and his big brother’s Dave Clarke’s mixtapes, he runs the Ears Have Eyes label and parties and has received praise from the likes of Resident Advisor and Ibiza Voice for his productions. He has taken his sound into deeper territory, with a new acid gurgler on Flumo Recordings (included here) a highlight alongside bits for FALK, Bokharia and Teleskopic. His Monologues mix collates his unreleased sounds, from ambient to 303 workouts and deep techno, all at a chuggy pace.

Comprised of German duo Daniel Varga and Michael Kübler, they have rotated through various singers since they formed in 2000 – as you can hear on this mix – with Sascha Hedgehog a mainstay on the mic now since 2005. Across three albums and numerous singles on the legendary Playhouse, Visionquest, Seth Troxler’s Soft Touch, Magda’s Items & Things and others, they have formed a consistently engrossing body of work that marries their synth pop influences with the gritty sounds of darker club music.
Berlin-based Mexican hotshot Fedde seriously impressed us with his ‘Supermoon’ EP on CVMR earlier this year, and after hearing more we were pleased to hear that the 4-tracker was no fluke. Flitting between melodic breakbeats, electro-funk and rolling, melodic deep house, his eclectic style is seriously accomplished whichever direction it goes in, and we can’t wait to hear more from him. His podcast is largely comprised of unreleased material and some very promising work-in-progress.

"I would describe my work as melodic, house and disco-influenced dance music. These are mainly unreleased tracks and some of them are still unfinished which means the quality in sound and levels differs sometimes from track to track, but I really like the idea of including these raw versions of songs in it."

Russia has been serving up a lot of hot house music talent in recent times, with Lithuania-based emigré Ponty Mython one of the pick of the bunch. His excellent ‘Mila, It’s Not Over!’ EP on Dirt Crew recently cemented our growing love for his work, which has also appeared on French Express, Capital Bass, Swedish Brandy and Quintessentials, finding the perfect balance between raw textures and crisp production. Vintage and analog sounds permeate his work, with dreamy and wonky refrains playing against heady samples and infectious percussion. His mix for Monologues is packed with unreleased exclusives and some of his best recent work.
A lot of them, mostly not classics but today sound. Labels like City Fly, Dekmantel, Rush Hour – those who move forward masterfully. Although my music is not so experimental and more for dancing, I am inspired by modern sounds only.
We’re pleased to have him back on the series, this time flying solo under his increasingly prolific solo moniker to accompany his new ‘Ynyslas’ EP on our label.

With a freer reign than in his collaborative project, his mixed bag of house, broken beats, tech and electronica has founds its way onto prestigious labels including !K7, Dirt Crew, Tsuba and Applepips, with plenty more on the way. His mix for us features some of those gems, plus plenty of unreleased exclusives.
From 2004 - 2012, Frankfurt duo Motorcitysoul cut a fine line in sumptuous deep and tech house grooves on imprints du jour like Freerange, Ibadan Records, Aus and SImple.

Pursuing the more melodic, dreamy elements of his former act’s composite sound, Vogt has forged a name for himself with his classy, deep, atmospheric works in recent times. Outings on labels like James Zabiela’s Born Electric and Fred Everything’s Lazy Days Recordings have been met with increasing acclaim, and there’s more on the way for Anjunadeep in the coming months. We’ve been trying to get a mix from him from the very start, so it’s with great pleasure we bring you this sublime session from Vogt, complete with a previously unreleased remix of Lana Del Rey.
"It was the first time for me to do a mix with just my own music. It gave me flashbacks and memories. Hope you dig."

Viennese don Peter Kruder’s gradual metamorphosis from king of downtempo to purveyor of classy house and techno was perhaps one of the more unexpected shifts amongst electronic luminaries of last few decades, but it has not been in vain. His work as half of Kruder & Dorfmeister soundtracked a million crack-ons, afterhours, comedowns, smoke-outs and lounge sessions and remains some of the most timeless material of the recent era. More recently, he's appeared on International Deejay Gigolos, Compost Black Label + Macro with some lush 4/4 efforts.
His mix for Monologues is a journey through some of his finest remixes, showing his respectful and subtle skill in reworking everything from Daft Punked soul to bossa nova and jazz. It’s an honour to have him contribute to the series.

Sweden’s supremely talented André Laos is a prodigious musician who graduated from the Red Bull Music Academy in 2013 and cuts a fine line in melodic, slickly produced deeper house music.

The Gothenberg-based producer has seriously impressed in recent times, releasing the stunning ‘One Way’ EP on Let’s Play House and ‘Mangold’ on Rob Da Bank’s new Silver Bear Recordings imprint, plus remixing house legends Mood II Swing for King Street.

His mix takes us on a journey through his palette of sounds, from joyous piano and disco stompers through to deeper melancholic moments. "This mix is just a feed of my own stuff basically. Really a weird thing to mix your own stuff. I never do that while playing in a club unless they serve margaritas..."

It’s fair to say that Sasse is one of Finland’s biggest musical exports, and one of quality house music’s leading lights. Setting up one of his country’s first house music clubs in the early ‘90s, he launched his incredibly dependable Moodmusic imprint in 1996, before moving to Frankfurt at the end of the decade and on to Berlin - where he remains today.

As a producer, his atmospheric, lush, melodic take on the house blueprint has resulted in four albums and releases on Bedrock, Pooledmusic, Mule Musiq and My Favorite Robot Records amongst others.

"Additionally to some of my own music, the mix consists of of my recent output as a remixer as well as some collaborations I did. In the end I added two deeper productions, both under my Freestyle Man moniker which I will reactivate again this year. So enjoy the mix!"

Denmark is hot property for lovers of deep and dusty house music - with newcomer Thorsteinssøn hot on the heels of previous Monologues guest Uffe and Copenhagen’s Tartelet Records. His mellow, organic vibe grabbed our attention through EPs on Legendary Sound Research on Horse On Horse, and as his mix for us shows, he’s sitting on plenty of golden grooves. From disco and soul sampling cuts to melodic, atmospheric deep house to wiggly acid jams, his aesthetic makes for a moreish listen. A name to watch in 2015.

"This mix is a blend of already released and forthcoming 12"s and some very new tracks that no-one has heard yet. I have not had much time to reflected on any particular idea and went for it with a selection that first came to mind and I felt could work well together. It was great fun and thank you to Monologues for inviting me."

Ten years on from their first release together, German house music stalwarts Chopstick & Johnjon are showing no signs that their partnership is growing old. Fusing a shared love of vintage hip-hop and R&B with tinges of disco and folksy melancholy, the strain that their Suol imprint pushes feels like a very organic take on house. Unearthing stars like Daniel Bortz and Chasing Kurt along the way, it has grown to become one of Europe’s most consistent and best-loved imprints.
With their acclaimed debut album Twelve released a few months back, it’s a perfect time for them to take stock of their decade producing together with a Monologues. mix, ranging from deep, sensual cuts to chunkier party jams. “It’s a nice selection of mostly older (2008-2014) and more unknown stuff” says Johnjon. “We had a lot of fun doing it!”

“We had a lot of fun doing it!”</itunes:summary>

Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen has released a ridiculously prolific 20 albums in 20 years under various guises, as well as countless remixes for major league artists and many singles along the way. Signed by turns to Laurent Garnier's F-Communications and Tiga's Turbo Recordings, he is content occasionally poking his head into the spotlight rather than riding any wave of hype, and it's this attitude that allows him the longevity that his consistent talent deserves.

"I've been meaning to do a mix only with own productions forever, but it's tough. It's kinda hard to know where to begin. So ended up narrowing it to only remixes I've done in the new millennium, and max 90-minute mix. It's a nice look at my productions. All the elements I keep going back again and again are there; the sizzly hats, simple yet moody chordstructures, melodic basslines."

Featured as RA's Mix Of The Day http://www.residentadvisor.net/feed-item.aspx?id=66167

Monologues. is a showcase for the world's finest electronic music producers. Each episode invites a different artist to create a mix comprised of their own productions: original tracks, remixes, re-edits, demos, loops, live sets...

We launch with a truly special mix from Trouw's Patrice Baumel, a man operating on the outer reaches of techno music. He's put together an on-the-fly, unplanned live set featuring 100% new, exclusive, unreleased, tripped-out, slow-building material. A fittingly unique mix.

Patrice: "I did not use a single existing track but produced and arranged the whole thing on the fly. It takes more effort than recording a traditional mix, almost like making a mini album, but it was a lot of fun and yielded a result that is totally unique. The material is 100% unmastered but maybe that's part of the charm."
