07. OPEN Roads

In the mid to late 90's Paul Oakenfold was my inspiration for DJing, above most others. He was the biggest DJ in the world at the time and I lapped up everything he produced, especially his mix compilations. I still listen to his two Global Underground mixes (from 1997 and 1998 respectively), his Perfecto Fluoro (1996) mix and his mix from Cream Live 2 (1996). Within these mixes, I loved how he would blend and move between house, trance, ambient soundtracks and drum and bass, and I don't know when or why he stopped doing this.

It was these few mixes and lots of new and varied music that gave me the inspiration for this mix, starting off with deep house, moving through liquid drum and bass and ending with dubby deep techno. There's also breaks of breaks and ambient in there, and some hopefully well chosen samples.

We have to love the music we play, beyond that, anything goes!
